Meh but after awhile all their clothes, and house and car start to smell like smoke. I don't mind the occasional cigar, hell I'll smoke the occasional cigar, however date someone who's addicted to Cigarettes? Nah, unless I really like her.

I love the smell of a pipe with good tobacco, I can stomach a cigar out in the open.. Cigarettes seem to be something that the media and medical has turned us off to... and I do not know if it is the real smell or if it is the fear of what might follow.
My ex smoked, then quit, then quit, then quit. I stuck by her and after a few years she whipped it.. My objection was a medical one.. She did know that cigarette smoke and camera lenses did not mix, and she respected that by not smoking at the studio..

That's a hard one for me because some of the people who I was very close to have died from diseases that cigerettes cause. The smell totally turns me off, but a guy who's bad boy and has a cigerette in hand always turns me on. That is until I get close and smell it. For me it's the smell and the diseases that go with it. So it's a no for me. Definately not.

I love the smell of a pipe too, my dad smokes it on occasion and it smells really good!
cigarettes on the other hand, no. I've been with a couple guys that have smoked and kissing them afterwards was just nasty.

I smoke (well, I'm trying to quit as of today, 3pm and not givin in yet!) and my boyfriend doesn't. BUT I would NEVER EVER smoke in a non-smokers car/house, it's just rude there is no need. My mum smokes too and we don't even smoke in our house because my brother doesn't like it.
He (boyfriend not brother) doesn't like that I smoke because of the house risks, and he is why I'm trying to quit, he's never nagged me too, but I love him and I know he doesn't like it.

When I started smoking, It was on TV, in Mags ,and
there wasn't a health warning on the packs.
I have came to realize, that it is a dirty,
filthy, fucking habbit, and wish I never started!
Let me give you a run down on what is going to happened.
I started when I was 13yrs old.
1. when I hit early 30s that is when I notice
that I couldn't keep up with any nonsmoker.
2. I have read that a smoker will loose 1 tooth, every 5 yrs that they smoke, and will get worse as they get older. True, I have dentures now.
3. I'm almost 48, and feel like a 90yr old in poor health, But I don't anyone feel sorry for me, because this was my doing, I even tried to quit once, and almost lost my mind.
I think I would have to go into a drug rehab center so they could lock me away so I didn't kill anyone in order to quit, but I don't have the kind of money it would take to stay away from my job that long.
To finish, I want all you young/old people who are nonsmokers to hate it! Younger smokers, might say that they are being discriminated against! I say Bullshit! Don't you scraffice your life for these fucking cigarettes! Fight aganist them, and make the industry a thing of the past!

Only been 7 years for me. I'm going out tonight so it was probably a bad day to start stopping, but a few months ago (I have been cutting down slowly) I'd have had about 15 by this time!
I'm always telling my younger brothers friends that they shouldnt do it, and i feel hypocritical but then they realise that it gets to the stage where you need to smoke in order not to stress out before you know it. I always said I wasn't addicted, then all of a sudden, I was!

With me I started because I tried it wanting to know why my parents couldn't stop, I used to beg them too. I was 13, at home on my own for like ten minutes while my mum picked up my brother, so I took the opportunity to try one. No peer pressure, nobody else around so I wasn't trying to "look cool", I just wanted to know.
Now I want to quit so I never influence my kids like that if I have any.

Smoking in public places is due to be banned here next year, I'm trying to quit before hand so I'm not stressing at the same time as every other smoker!! lol.

LittleMiss,
You do it sweetie, it hasn't affected you like it has me...what ever reason you have for quiting, do it for that reason!
You are young and your body will recover, and reajust to if you never smoked.
Because if you are still smoking when you hit your 30s, that is when you are really going to feel what they are doing to you!
You won't be playing baseball, or chasing your kids around the yard, or running in general.
You might think I'm shooting my mouth off, because you aren't feeling the affects of them yet, but if continue on...you will say wow that guy from the internet was right! I hope this sinks in.
Do it for your self! Live life the way it is supposed to be!

No I know what you mean, thanks. my dad has been a smoker for 30 odd years and I see it with him.
I gave in last night and was smoking, I was out clubbing and therefore drunk, willpower went straight out the window! So I think that's going to be the toughest part to cut out! But even so, the odd fag when out (I can't afford to go out much so not often) is better than smoking constantly!

My entire family smoked when I was growing up and I started smoking in my early teens. I smoked for about 10 years or so and quit in my early 20`s.

I was never a heavy smoker though, a pack every 3 days or so except when it came to drinking where I would smoke a pack in a matter of hours. When I did quit I remember not touching a drink for atleast 6 months after as I knew I would light one up.

That being said it doesn`t bother me either way, I just will not kiss after my partner has a smoke.

I dont think you're making the right decision. I found out if a girl smokes it doesnt tell much about her character, she can be good or bad girl , whether she smokes or not. In case you just want a temporary relationship this shouldnt matter at all. Also I kissed smokers and they taste great, whatever anyone says is untrue.

Even as a smoker, I didnt like kissing a smoker as much as a non smoker! Of course, I wouldnt not date somebody because of it, but i can see why non-smokers would.

I've always been incredibly anti-smoking, and my ex-girlfriend - before we got together - quit smoking because she overheard me saying that I would never go out with a smoker. My opinion has always been that if the person I'm with wants to be with me, why would they actively shorten their life and take so little care of themselves?

BUT... Having said all that...

I am currently getting involved-ish with a girl who, I discovered on our first date, smokes. She smoked one cigarette whilst we were out, and she was very self-deprecating about it, but I have to admit that I was incredibly turned off during those four or five minutes. However, despite everything I have said above, I have found that I am absolutely crazy about her and am really eager to pursue a relationship with her (if she'll have me!). She told me that is in the process of quitting, and I just hope that is true. Needless to say, if we do become heavily involved, she won't be smoking in my car or at my home. So I figure that will go some way to helping her stop?

LittleMiss

Yeah it should do, if she really does want to stop. It's my boyfriend that's really motivated me, he could have written that post actually! Except we aren't only "kind of involved"!!
We have been together 8 months (exactly in fact- wow) so don't expect it to be overnight, it's difficult.

As for the ganja comment, I used to smoke it heavily, but I stopped when I decided I didn't just want to be an A Level drop out, I now study child care and that includes 50% placement looking after kiddies. Best not to be stoned really lol so that sorted me out there, now I cant handle it I'm off my head as soon as i sniff it where I used be able to smoke joint after joint.

I refuse to allow any habit of mine affect any aspect of my life i do not want it to... i smoke ganja w my friends almost everyday b/c they get it for free and i was in the top ten in my graduating class and currently have a 4.0 in college.

we all have the ability to control our appetites. As american i suggest we start excercising this ability adn excercising in general.
