My account here is new, but I've read a lot of stories here. I made my account so I could post one of my own, as I've written many and am a bit of a comment whore. Well, I went to post my story...got all the proper stuff done and it tells me there is a character limit of 5000? I've seen stories longer then that...Can someone explain this to me or direct me somewhere that can?

There is a minimum limit of 5000 characters, not maximum, unless it's not working properly.

BTW You should only see the minimum chars limit message when selecting 'please review my text' not when it's still a draft.

I was told when I was saving my story to be worked on at a later point in time that it still needed to be 5000 characters to even be saved. So I just added a whole bunch of ~~~~ until it would accept it. Then when I went back to work on it I deleted those and continued writing.

If you are working on the story side, I have to recommend WRITING your story using a word processor or text editor to avoid having the site log you off due to inactivity and causing the loss of work. This is not as important in the forums as the forums do not, as far as I know, log you off.

Once you have the story written, insert it into the submission form that you are wanting to use ("New Story" on the story site and "New Thread" in the forums) and ensure that the formatting looks right but remember that each site has its own formatting issues:

Make sure to double line-feed to create paragraphs in the story site to prevent "word walls".
The story site has some issues with special characters - use only the ones which are REQUIRED and no ASCII coded chrs.
The forums do not read multiple spaces - this, for example was written with loooong spaces around that dash

Other than that, have fun and welcome to the fray
