Humanity is a disgusting parasite, Fluffy. If a disaster comes along, I don't understand why people won't band together and help eachother. Does the ant not work together as a single unified being to protect their home when under attack! Does the wolf not gather with its comrades and bring down beasts many times larger than the individual? Humanity is the only being which cannot work together without a single declared leader. They are no better than a virus that brings death and fear and leaves only destruction and pain in its wake. It shalll be the silent sentinals that watch from above as humanity destroys itself from within, just as a star violently rips itself apart during a super nova, so shall humanity set itself and its home world aflame.

And I sit and sadly watch, as I see my brothers kill themselves over simple things like bread & water.

We are a tribal species and when the chips are down we value those that are closest to us over strangers. Altruism only tends to work when there is an overabundance. When one has to fight and scratch for every resource simple to make it through to the next day you will seek to ensure the survival of your family/group/tribe before looking to share with an interloper. It is a perfectly natural and evolutionary instinct.

Native Americans led a working communisim once upon a time.

Human beings will band together in the face of total racial genocide. Homo Sapien's Social Sphere stretches each corner of the planet as one, we are globalization. Lions do not have planes or irrigation systems, thats why there social spheres are multiples represented as Prides.

But ill indulge you, it was a nuclear weapon developed by the russians, it was only ever used once, it was encased in lead and detonated at 25% full capacity, it was speculated that if the Zar was ever detonated at 100% capacity, the entire earths atmosphere would ignite at once, killing 99.9% of all life instantly.

Devestateing weapon, it leveled a large island and the shockwave wrapped around the entire earth 8 times both ways.

The comments here Shake, SLycan(too gloomy) and others I generally agree with.
Those were some comments:-o on the link, but understandable.
We would largely help each other being in a small town.
We have a gunsmith, I have survivalist skills(Boy Scout 1976), wouds, and technical knowledge.
I am prepared and could make a number of effective weapons.
The gangs would have to be taken care of first.
I see a fortress with multiple defensive lines...

I'm with you Fluffy on not so much the article but the reaction it drew. It is easy to see what a gun totting frightened society (the two go hand in hand) that we are.

There was a time when a gun would have been on the top of my survival list. And there was a time I carried one everywhere I went. I found it to be primarily useless when I was stranded in a storm. You know I found it next to useless to feed myself with when I was guiding hunters. We'd sit silently for days waiting for big game to come alone and couldn't shoot anything else to eat for fear of scaring the big game off. I found a little fishing line and some hooks, my bare hands (for foraging plants and pine cones) and sticks about an inch in diameter and eight inches or so in length (absolutely lethal thrown at game birds at short range) fed me better than my rifle could.

I do have my own versions of these survival kits though at home, in my truck and in my kit bag. But I can tell you this if it runs on fuel, electricity or batteries its next to worthless at times or will be shortly. The simple things, a knife, an ax, matches, candles, clothes and bedding and something to keep them all dry will serve and save you from almost anything.

It may be retarded in your opinion but for more than 40 years and still true to at least an extent today, it wasn't retarded it was MAD; Mutual Assured Destruction. It was the official policy of the US and USSR that no one would survive a nuclear war. NO ONE.
