I have never been to a live hockey game. But, if did go to one I would have my pockets full of pebbles to throw onto the ice so I could watch the fun.

 

People throw coins on the ice at times and I have skated on one and ended up face first in the boards back in my playing days.

During play stoppages/TV timeouts they have these scantily clad hotties come on the ice and quickly clean any debris, they are a sight to see and worth the odd toss of something but remember you could kill a person doing it ...

The idiot players bashing the hell out of each other are much more likely to kill each other. I get the feeling most people go to hockey games to watch the fights as opposed to the excellent abilities of the players. Just MHO

 

Why do they call them the Tri-City Americans when all of the players are Canadian but 3 , one Finn and 2 Americans ! That was rhetorical .
Spokane is going to miss the playoffs but people around here still have TC , Everett and Seattle to cheer for .
Not my favorite sport but people here seem to take it seriously as long as the Seahawks or Mariners aren't playing .

Canadians make up the majority of all teams in the WHL but it is a great development league for the NHL and there are a few decent American players that will be looked at as the draft nears.

After a hot streak, Bruins out to prove that they can't beat any team they might meet in the playoffs, IF they make the playoffs.

 

There is something you don't see all that much these days, 3 Canadian teams holding the playoff spots in the Atlantic division with Boston hanging on to the 2nd WC spot right now with the Islanders on the bubble right behind them.


I agree and losing to Ottawa and Toronto last week didn't help their cause. I was at the game where the Oilers beat them 7-4 last thursday. At least they know they can beat Calgary and Vancouver which don't mean shit other than the 2 points for each.

They play TB tonight and that is an important game and could bring TB to within one point of the Islanders.

Columbus plays Washington tonight as well and a Columbus win could tie them for the league lead (102 points) ...

 

NEW YORK (AP) Riley Nash scored twice and backup goalie Anton Khudobin made 18 saves as the Boston Bruins beat the New York Islanders 2-1 Saturday night, snapping a four-game losing streak.

Nash broke a 1-1 tie with his second goal of the contest at 4:12 of the third period, beating Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss from the slot for his seventh goal of the season. Dominic Moore assisted on the decisive goal, which lifted Boston two points ahead of the Islanders for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.

John Tavares scored for New York and Greiss finished with 16 saves.

Tavares had a golden chance to knot the score with just over six minutes left in the third period but rang the puck off the crossbar with the Islanders on their sixth power play of the game.

New York is now 0-3-1 on home ice since earning points in 11 straight (9-0-2), their longest such streak at home since 1982.

Tavares opened the scoring at 10:05 of the first, rifling the puck past Khudobin after skating through and around the Boston defense. Tavares' 28th goal this season tied the captain with Bob Nystrom for eighth place on the franchise lost with 235 goals.

Nash quickly answered, beating Greiss low on the stick side 36 seconds later. The unassisted goal brought loud cheers by many Bruins fans scattered throughout the sellout crowd of 15,795 at Barclays Center.

The Islanders outshot the Bruins 8-3 in the brisk first period.

The playoff-like pace continued throughout the second. Greiss made a number of acrobatic saves and also stopped Drew Stafford and David Krejci on point-blank chances with just under five minutes left.

The chippy play led to several skirmishes particular after Bruins forward David Pastrnak clobbered Islanders forward Stephan Gionta in front of the home team's bench with about four minutes left in the period.. Pastrnak received only a 2-minute roughing penalty.

It was the home team's third power play of the second but they couldn't convert against Khudobin, who started in place of starter Tuukka Rask.

The Bruins had a 10-5 shots advantage in the middle period as the score remained tied at 1 heading for the third.

The Bruins had a goal waved off with 4:16 left in the first period when it was ruled that forward David Backes made contact with Greiss.

NOTES: The Islanders won both road games this season against the Bruins, 4-2 on Dec. 20 and 4-0 on Jan. 16, which proved to be Jack Capuano's last game as Islanders coach before was replaced by Doug Weight. ... The Islanders are 2-10-0 in their last 12 home games against the Bruins, including 0-5-0 in the last five. ... The Islanders entered the contest with consecutive road wins over the Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins. ... The Bruins are 13-7-0 since Bruce Cassidy replaced Claude Julien as coach on Feb. 7 . The Islanders were without defenseman Johnny Boychuk for the 11th straight game.

 

Playoffs begin April 12th 2017 ...

Right now it looks like at least 5 Canadian teams will make the post season. Winnipeg and Vancouver are both write-offs lol.

It looks like the 8 teams in the western conference are pretty much sewn up but there is still a race for the WC spots in the eastern conference.

 

A quick look at the playoff picture:

In the west Calgary will officially take a WC spot with any combination of one point and is currently one point ahead of Nashville that holds the second WC spot and either a Nashville win or a LA/Winnipeg loss will cement Nashville in the second spot at the least.

In the east the Rangers officially take a WC spot with the Bruins currently holding the second WC spot with Tampa Bay, Carolina, the Islanders and Flyers having an outside chance of unseating the Bruins for that second spot.

All other playoff spots are the same as the last posting of teams. Again, the playoffs begin April 12th.

There is nothing worse than playing a team that has nothing left to lose other than pride ... those are the most dangerous team to play especially if one decides to take out a knee out of spite ...

An almost full slate of games on the card for tomorrow and Sunday to close out the regular season as the playoffs start Wednesday.

Washington wins the Presidents Trophy as the overall points leader and can't be caught. Toronto needs only a tie or overtime loss to clinch the final WC spot behind the Rangers in their final 2 games.

On the west side, Calgary and Nashville will take the WC spots and can't be caught in the remaining 2 games.



I will provider extensive playoff coverage starting on Wednesday but will give the first round matches sooner.

 

Likely Playoff Matchups

Two of the Eastern Conference playoff matchups are secure.

The Montreal Canadiens, who've clinched the Atlantic Division title, will face the New York Rangers in the first round. The Rangers are locked in as the No. 1 wild-card team in the conference. The Habs have home-ice advantage in the series as a result of winning their division.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins will face the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Pens clinched home-ice advantage Thursday night as a result of their 7-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

The Washington Capitals clinched the Presidents' Trophy on Wednesday, and they will face the No. 2 wild-card team. That looks set to be the Maple Leafs, but it could still be the Senators, Bruins, Lightning or Islanders.

The other matchup is likely to be the Senators against the Bruins, but Toronto could still sneak in as the No. 2 or 3 seed if either or both those teams fail in the final weekend.

While all eight Western Conference playoff spots were decided Sunday, none of the matchups are set.
