Liberals taking their stupidity to a new low....

Tweet puts Clemson in 'sorry' mode for campus Mexican food night

    Published October 09, 2015

Mexican food night was too hot for one Clemson University student to handle, and the unidentified Tiger's tweet Thursday complaining that it was insensitive was all it took to end a campus tradition.

“Maximum Mexican” night was just one of several thematic events put on by the South Carolina school's dining service throughout the academic year. But no one complained about other themes, including “Low Country BBQ Bash,” where students were invited to “pick up a plate of mighty fine fixins,” according to Campus Reform. Only the Mexican food event, at which staff wore sombreros and served up south-of-the-border cuisine, drew the condemnation of a Twitter busybody who used the hashtag #CUlturallyInsensitive.

“What's next?" Clemson senior Austin Pendergist said. "Are they going to take away all potato-based food as to not offend students from Irish descent?”

The university administration apologized in a statement, saying “We failed to live out our mission yesterday,”and calling the presentation a "flattened cultural view of Mexican culture."

"In the future, University Housing & Dining welcomes the opportunity to work with Hispanic and Latino campus groups as well as community members, staff and faculty to better celebrate the food and culture of this region and better educate the Clemson community," officials said in the statement.

Most students seem to think the the apology was about as warranted as telling University of South Carolina's football team they're sorry for the 35-17 beatdown the Tigers handed the arch rival Gamecocks last year.

“This is something that Clemson Dining has done for years without any sort of backlash," Pendergist said. "People love the cultural nights in the dining halls, when does it end?”

Good grief. What the hell is wrong in calling it Mexican food? Are we going to ban terms such as Thai, Chinese, British(okay there it's not really food, But...) Irish, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Jewish..... There is a huge difference between demeaning, and defining, Granted not all Mexican food is actually from the Mexican culture, but rather Latino in general. A friend of mine is from Peru and when I handed him a jar labeled Pico de Gallo, his first response was, "rooster lips, what the hell are rooster lips?". Cultural differences even in South America/Central America/North America.

It might have been different had they called something like "Wetback Night". Which even I would find offensive.

I hate Chipotle. First of all I can neither spell nor pronounce it. Second the food is starch heavy slop. Third they don't have milk.

They say the French learned to spice their sauces before refrigeration to hide the taste of rancid meat.

How the hell do Mexicans screw up beans and rice?

Burritos are delicious, shut your mouth. Think about it, it's the best food: you can put any meat in it, you can put any veggies in it, you can put most cooked dry beans in it, you can put a variety of rice/quinoa, you can have it spicy or not, you can have it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it's easy to make, etc.

    P.S. - I'm not a huge fan of chipotle either. It's overrated.

Chipotle isn't Mexican. Burritos arn't Mexican, they're Californian. You need to get close to Mexico to get decent Mexican food, so California isn't bad. You can get decent fish taco's here, particularly in San Diego.

    Really? In which universe?

      Where did the burrito originate?
The precise origin of the modern burrito is not known. It may have originated with vaqueros in northern Mexico in the nineteenth century; farmworkers in the fields of California's Central Valley, in Fresno and Stockton; or with northern Sonoran miners of the 19th century.

Or if you prefer the more modern version.

The Man who Invented The Burrito
      By Adam Martin

The origins of the burrito often get debated among the bean-obsessed chattering classes. Today Oyster Food and Culture explores the burrito's path from its inception to its modern role as the city's favorite lunch food. On the origin myth: "A[n] enterprising fellow by the name of Juan Mendez sold tacos in a street stand, using a donkey (burro) as a transport for himself and the food, during the Mexican Revolution period (1910-1921) in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. To keep his food warm, Juan thought to wrap the food placed first in a large homemade flour tortilla, and for further insulation inside individual napkins." Replace napkins with foil and you might as well be in El Farolito. [Oyster Food and Culture]

Burritos are a Mexican food item, the current idea of them is not, but then most foods today are no where near what they used to be. Tacos are not supposed to be over stuffed hard shells filled to the point that everything falls out, go to a Jack-in-the-Box and get the 2 tacos deal and you have the closest thing to real tacos that you can find outside of a few taquerias. Making refried beans is easy all you need is pinto beans, a pot of water and a skillet, cook the beans in the water and scoop them out into the pan, add salt, pepper, fat, butter and heat to bubbling and smash the beans, you can use the bean broth to help cook the beans and just cook on low until liquid is gone.
But the real question is how is calling it Mexican food racist since it is named for the country that it comes from and not the people themselves?
