You have it all wrong. We didn't reduce drunk driving with increasing or decreasing alcohol. It was reduced with education. I think you're being a bit disingenuous right now, Plume.

Hypotheticals where you're a victim of a drunk driving accident and then claiming all snarky like, "Oh I guess I just wasn't being responsible." is dumb. You don't ask shooting victims to be responsible gun owners. You educate gun owners om how to be responsible. There needs to be more education.

This attitude people have that all gun owners are obsessed, uneducated inbred redneck milita/survivalist types is insulting and does nothing to solve any issues. The anti-gun crowd (and the.. pro-gun? crowd too) needs to be willing to explore the other side. Go shooting once just to see what it's like. (the pro gun side just needs to realize that certain people shouldn't have a gun. like unmedicated mental patients. I'd like there to be more lobbying for mental healthcare. But that won't happen. It's all the videogames and music the kids are listening to)
A gun is just metal. By itself it's incapable of doing anything.You can't take all the guns away. They exist. They're tools. Yeah it's sad that some 5 year old blows his/his sibling/friend's brains out but that wouldn't be an issue if all gun owners knew how to handle a gun and store them properly.

Something I've noticed is that anti-gun/pro gun control people tend to subtly or not so subtly imply they're superior because they're all peaceful lovey nonviolent and the world would be super awesome and shiny. They seem to think all conflict would just end if the violent retards didn't have their stupid death toys.

I also think the NRA shouldn't be a corporate whore and should stop pandering, but literally every issue in this fucking country is politicized because both parties are less interested in serving the nation than they are in making the other side look like a jack ass. America needs an enema.

I think I'm sounding very douchy/aggressive in this post but I'm not mad at anyone in this thread, just tired of America's bullshit in general.

Adding more alcohol would not effect the drunk driving rate one way or the other, and you know it! For someone as intelligent as you would like to have us believe you are, you sure are acting ignorant.

The prohibition or increased restrictions of alcohol makes more sense than the prohibition or increased restriction of guns. Alcohol alters the mental and physical functions of the user, once it is in the persons system most inhibitions and rational thought are greatly diminished. To compare this with gun controls is the heigth of stupidity.

Perhaps if it was presented in a more humorous way, and not a condescending, gross oversimplification and comparing two issues that are literally (figuratively!) apples and oranges, people would have been more receptive. We did it through enforcement
It simply got so expensive and inconvenient to drink and drive that even besotted morons found a taxi worth the effort

 

No, but we don't blame the alcohol in the body of the drunk driver, either. We don't sue the makers of Jack Daniels (for example); we hold the drunk driver responsible--as we should.
