  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

Request: Post your own personal reviews of any other sex story sites you've tried? (See my attempt at getting answers regarding sexstories here, if interested: https://forum.xnxx.com/threads/faq-report-stories.329729/ (if you have thoughts on THAT specific topic, add it there, to keep the posts on topic?) My assumption: being ignored and receiving no answer (apparently along with lots of other folks) IS my answer. Let's see if THIS post gets moderator attention. ;-)

My own personal reviews so far: (I'll generally edit this post as I have updates)

I tried here at sexstories.com, and although there are a lot of things to like here, the incredibly slow process of posting stories and what to me appears to be a smallish number of stories (or possibly there are hundreds waiting to be posted? All my comments are based on the 3 or so weeks I've been here, during which only about 20 new stories have appeared), I'm concerned about whether I should bother getting comfortable here.

Literotica: I left Liter0tica.c*m for personal reasons, but overall, once you get past the backward looking website, it's an OK place to post stories. There is a large reader base, and more stories there. I wouldn't tell anyone not to post there, even though I left mad. Incidentally, don't expect nirvana. Several of the same complaints about things like power mad moderators, etc. definitely happen there too.

The backwardness and poor instructions probably deter a lot of aspiring authors, but if you stay patient enough to get past it, it's not bad. One tip, responses from the story submission moderators pretty much always comes after exactly 2 days, but the site design is so amateurish, most people don't realize feedback was sent. You'll find it, if you look for it, just be patient and read the poorly written rambling instructions carefully if you decide to try.

Lushstories, I admit my trial lasted less than a minute. Then, I got taken off to an advertising/porn site in a new window, that also opened up a new window. I don't care if Lushstories potentially is the greatest site ever, I'm not going to bother trying further with a site like that.

ASSTR.org: At first I thought this would be great, but it too hit me with popups and new windows. In this case (not so with Lushstories), it's possible that I fat-fingered my phone, so I may try again. I still may investigate posting to alt.sex.stories directly (the newsgroup, the aincient pyramids of the internet, but still going strong.. well, strong-ish) as opposed to using ASSTR, but I haven't gone there yet.

Wattpad: I can't even browse without creating an account, so I haven't investigated them much yet. The fact that they allow logging in via a Facebook account is enough to tell me privacy isn't a concern there though, and it looks like one that is really after you to use their app, not the website.

Swinglifestyle: It somehow managed a page 1/top 10 listing on Google for stories, but it really isn't much of a site for writers, there's no way to take credit or ownership for your story, it just gets posted anonymously. For reading only, take a quick glance. The higher rated stories aren't bad for a quick read.

Redditt: High on my to-do list, but I haven't been there yet. From what I know about its reputation, female participants are harrassed so much that they mostly all leave after a few days, and to me, sites are more fun if there are at least some female participants. Nonetheless, I will try it myself at some point soon, and will update my review when I do.

Summary: Post your own reviews? I had hoped sexstories could be a long term home, but it's not looking like that.

I tried a site about 3 years ago as I was fed up with trolling here on the sexstories site. Don't ask me what it was called as, after posting one story, I never went back. New stories were announced a week before publishing and the site mafia went to town on them, voting up their own stories and voting down the rest, days before anyone had the chance to read them. Literotica has some weird rules like it being okay to have sex with a unicorn or a dragon but not with a sheep or a goat.
The forum here is great as anyone who tries to stir up shit gets short shrift.

Ever since I joined XNXX, I've only read from and written on the forum. I never visit the sex stories site because it always seems to have some problem.
I suggest that you post your stories in the forum itself.

Thanks Samuel, good point. My comment about Liter0tica left out that the tone of the forums there is a lot more feisty/nasty (pick preferred word), I have to say the forum folks here are much calmer and nicer and here to enjoy life, not just looking for an argument.

I like the concept of a story site (were there one that worked properly) because of the shelf life. If I write a good story, hopefully people will keep reading it for years to come (ba-boom). I get the impression that the stories posted to the forum get lots of traffic and supportive comments at first, but there's not a good way for a great story to keep it's buzz when the post gets old?

What you say about the shelf life is true. As the post gets older, it gets lost in the latter pages. But once you write a few good stories and make a name for yourself, people will start looking for your stories.

    Okay, here's what I've learned:

I used ASSTR for my main site, because they're the most liberal and the only ones that allow me to post any and all of my stories, no matter what the content. Also, they essentially give free webspace for writers so you can make your own website there (seems it's html only, though). The feedback there is... mixed. First off, they don't have a comments system (unless you implement your own), so feedback is limited to email only. They also don't have ratings or any other way to sort stories other than alphabetically and by latest posted, so the most exposure you get is whenever you post something new. There is not a lot of feedback - sometimes none at all for months, then a few emails per week - but it's definitely the most interesting feedback I get. People writing lengthy praises or asking for an inclusion in their stories; ASSTR is pretty much the only site I get that kind of request.

Then, I published on Sexstories. I get a lot more reads there than on any other site (three of my stories were among the most read ones with more than 4 million reads just for those alone). They sort by rating (simple percentage of good vs. bad votes) and I get (relatively) many comments too. The rate is about 1 vote per 100 reads and 1 comment per 1000 reads. If you have a following, it'll be more.

The downsite is that it's troll infested. Anons will downvote your stuff viciously for no reason at all and you'll get some completely inane, vile and insulting comments; moderation is virtually non-existent. I'm being stalked, harassed and hated on there more than anywhere else (despite, or maybe because of my stories being wildly popular for a reason).

The site also has a forum attached to it which is much better moderated and can provide some constructive criticism, but nowhere near the amount of readers and exposure than the stories site.

Next up is Literotica. I've been posting all of my stories there that don't break the rules (which pretty much just excludes bestiality and celebrity porn for me, but your mileage may vary). I don't really like the site, but can't point my finger at why exactly. It just seems disorganized, there's no clear sorting of stories, the ratings only seem to matter for the top 10 of each category, who get all of the exposure, everything else fades into oblivion very quickly. I get a lot less comments there, more like 1 comment per 10.000 reads and 1 vote per 1000, and the comments are pretty much the same mixed bag as they are on sexstories.com. Lots of one-liners, but seemingly not a lot of trolls.

I say seemingly because lit also has a forum attached to it and the one time I actually posted something there (looking for some input on a storie's setting) I got jumped on immediately and trolled from all sides. So, as far as that's concerned, it seems like their forums are the troll pit.

Then, StoriesOnline - Pretty much the nicest site I've seen so far. Not a lot of readers there, and no comment system or anything. They have a weird ass scoring system that pretty much assures that you'll stay in the middle ground unless you write something that people will give 10 points to just because they agree with the topic and not the style or content. Which is why the highest scoring stories there are all hero tales of some veteran soldier or another.

But the feedback is mostly nice, dunno why. People keep emailing me nice stuff, which I like, and I tend to include and answer on my blog there, which is also a nice feature. So, despite the limited readership, it's a friendly site.

For a while I've been publishing on Lush as well, but that turned out to be incredibly tedious. Their policies are pretty much the most restrictive I've seen on any porn site, literally half of the stories I've submitted got rejected for one reason or another. Once, a story got sent back because it had a scene where the panties got cut with a scissor and they considered that "knife play" which was against the rules. Other times, they didn't like formatting or spelling, even though the very same story had no problem getting approved on literotica (which has the same formatting and spelling rules). So, I finally gave up frustrated.

The feedback there was pretty nice, but irrelevant; I never got more than one-liner comments and a few votes. Definitely the site with the least reads and votes on all of them, so I wouldn't bother.

I've heard good things about another site called Adult Fanfiction but haven't personally tried it yet. Mainly because it looks very byzantine and disorganized and difficult to use, both for readers and writers. They're supposedly pretty liberal as far as restrictions and rules go, so if you're writing in the ever-popular teenage/underage/incest category, you might want to give it a try.

I've browsed just about every story site on the web. My free stuff is on Lit. It's free to post and free to read, so there's not much to bitch about. Story submissions are run through and editor bot, just to make sure it's readable. The bot is a little cumbersome, but it works. I've done a lot of volunteer editing to get stories through the bot. It's mostly a matter of keeping quotes clean and paragraphs short. Short paragraphs are easier to read on a monitor. It's nothing to do with content.

Like any other site where the owners have a real liability, the basic taboos are forbidden.

Does anyone know of websites that feature non erotic stories?

I am gratified that my story "Laurel" won CAW 17, even though the protagonist and his love interest did not even touch each other.

Nevertheless, my stories are non erotic. I would like to post them where they are evaluated by non erotic criteria.

I went to Google, typed this in:

websites + "non erotic short stories"

and I still could not find a website that specialized in non erotic short stories.

    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=websites+++"non+erotic+short+stories"&start=0

You have published a lot of articles. If you or someone else knows of a website that specializes in non erotic short stories, please post it in this thread, or tell me in a PM.

Alright. I was snarky, you were nice, so I owe you one. Here goes.

(SIDERANT) If you're using a search engine, you should typically avoid to include the search term you do NOT want to find in your search. So if you're looking for non-erotic story sites, having "non-erotic" in your search terms will not help and more often than not hinder your search.

The way you did it, google will search for results that contain "websites" and the string "non erotic short stories" (verbatim, since you included it in quotation marks). Naturally, your search results brought up people searching on forums for the same thing, whereas if I were the host of a stories site, I would not call it (or advertise it as) a non-erotic short stories website. I'd call it something fancy, like "Writer's corner", with a byline like "free short fiction for readers and writers". (/SIDERANT)

So I went ahead and searched for "stories" (too broad of a term, honestly, but I tried anyway) and "stories fiction", which brought up at least a few results that look promising. However, since literature is such a HUGE field, I'd narrow my search down and look for stories in the genre you're writing. If it's SF, try searching "science fiction stories", if it's children's stories, try "children story", etc. You get the idea. Maybe include typical terms of free sites that allow you to send in your own story, like "free" and "submit"

    SUBMIT! *cracks whip*

Sorry, got sidetracked there for a minute, where was I? Right... Et voilá - that already looks much nicer, doesn't it.

    BONUS TRACK:

Personally, I'd recommend to publish your works and see how far that'll take you. There's plenty of resources available to find out how to do that, and the marketing is different for every genre, so I won't link to any here, but from my own experience, that approach puts you in touch with people who really do appreciate your work (enough so that they actually pay for it) and weeds out a MONUMENTAL amount of trolls, which I had always put up with on free sites. There's a 10.000 word post waiting to be written about the relationship between free and paid things, appreciation of those, the different audiences these generate and what the pros and cons of those approaches are, but this is not that post.

Thanks, Anna, very insightful. Did you have strange experiences with the advertising and/or popups over on Lush and/or ASSTR? I know my computer and phone aren't infected, although my mis-pressing of keys on the phone certainly seems like an infection. Nonetheless, the fact that Lush has predatory type links on the site is bad enough for me, even if I may have mishit the keys... Because I do mishit keys. I'd rather a site NOT have dangerous links, so if (when) I hit the wrong key, nothing will go wrong.

I had all my stories on Literotica also. It's not perfect by any stretch, but overall, seemed as good as any of the others I've encountered, everything with a grain of salt. There's no shortage of trolls there either. And some forum regulars there, firmly believe there are mass conspiracies of people banding together against them. (I believe there may well be multiple people trolling some people, but in my opinion, each troll is acting alone. Not that this makes it better. Just that it's not an organized conspiracy).

I think I will experiment with Redditt next, just to see what it's like. If I come back with bruises and such, you'll all know why.

It's been almost a year since I've last been on Lush, so I couldn't tell. But as they're really aggressive with their ads, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they have popups there. As for ASSTR: Do you mean the main site, or on someone's story? Because every author there manages their own website (the part where the stories appear) and ASSTR only handles the registry and backend. It's very possible that some enterprising fella put some JavaScript popup shit on their stories in the vain attempt of trying to earn 20 cents a year from advertising. People do stupid shit like that.

This, by the way, is another thing that bothered me MAJORLY: I've been writing LOADS of stories, around 100 by now, been providing them FOR FREE and some websites plaster their fucking ads all around it and make some money with them that way - which is semi-okay, after all I knew about that beforehand and submitted them anyway - but then won't even allow me to promote MY OWN FUCKING WEBSITE, let alone my books on amazon or any other retailer. That's wrong. In the end, that kind of attitude gives me no incentive whatsoever to provide my stories on someone else's site, especially not the ones who try to milk them with ads for that it's worth. Sexstories and ASSTR have so far always been an exception to this, as they're ad-free and straightforward.

Conspiracy theories go hand in hand with trolls. It's a hallmark of the troll for them to suspect that EVERYONE ELSE is really just one person with hundreds of alt accounts, ganging up on them and giving the impression of an overwhelming majority. (I'm not making this up, there's been a study done about this, and if I wasn't so busy with my girlfriend in the hospital, I would take the time to look it up - for now, you need to take my word for it.)

On top of that hanging out with authors is... strange, sometimes. There's a disproportional amount of inflated egos involved, and many of them have their head lodged firmly so far up their own arse, it's been decades since they've last heard anything that wasn't tuned out by their own farts. And of course, anyone who can't see how very sophisticated and special they are would NEED to be a troll. I'm trying to stay away from that crap and don't hang out with other authors more than I need to. I'm lucky to be having my editor-girlfriend around to butt heads with over everything I need to discuss and a few other people that I work professionally with who can help me out when I'm in a bind. Other than that...

Reddit is awesome, if you know how to use it right. I'm assuming you're talking about the /r/sexstories subreddit, which is nicely managed but not very active. Keep in mind that longer works can't be posted their as text and will have to be linked to on anothersite, since they've got a character limit. (Dunno how many, but stories of mine that were around 3000 words long were already too long for me to paste there). BUT: I'd take a look around reddit and familiarize yourself with the culture of the place. There's some useful subreddits for authors in general that are interesting to read and participate in, especially because there's people posting who really got their shit together. /r/eroticauthors is one that I keep coming back to.

However, don't go in, thinking you're the shit. That doesn't fly anywhere, but it especially doesn't fly there.

    Yes, I have, see here:

I don't concern myself with the age limit, and I realize that makes me a minority, but I'm really not into kids/incest/ageplay and all that. I write for a different audience with a different set of tastes. Beyond that, I also want to be able to publish my stuff with retailers, so I have to keep it within certain limits anyway.

As I've said on similar threads, I have a list of every erotica site I know about and what their content limits are. Since historically references to other sites get censored out by the forum moderators, you will have to PM me for a link. (Unless that's changed? This thread at least has open references to other sites, if not live URLs.)

I checked out the two main erotica subreddits recently. They don't seem as active as any of the erotica sites, really. Plus, being reddit, it's not organized like a story site. Anything older than the first couple pages is forgotten. Might be a good place to drop a link to a story every now and then but I think it's worthless as a primary place for publishing stories.
