WWII was in a different era, with different standards, much different criteria.

The Geneva protocols were in place for World War II. Yes, they were enhanced after the war (1949), but many protocols were in place for World War II, dating all the way back to the Hague and updated extensively after World War One (in the twenties).

I don't need Wikipedia to know this. The English Patient is one of my favorite movies, and the Geneva Conventions are mentioned (and scorned) in the movie's gruesome torture scene (in which an interrogator amputates a prisoner's thumbs).

I wonder about people that complain about water boarding or other forms of torture. Some claim they have been tortured. Others claim how inhuman it is. It seems to be a strange topic considering the ruthlessness of the people being targeted for this torture. The murderers of innocent mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sons, fathers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, cousins, teachers, nurses, shall I go on? The rapists of innocent little children, boys and girls, WHO in their right mind rape and torture children? Brutal rape is torture.

Why can't people put aside politics and really be concerned for the innocent victims of this ongoing tragedy. Three thousand some innocent people died in the twin towers of the World Trade Center because a few crazy men believe it is impossible to co-exist with people from Israel.

The people that decry torture of combatants would do well to promote peace among peoples. Promote peaceful co-existence. As for whose side is "right", we should all face the facts, throughout the recorded history of mankind, every tribe, every race, every religion, has in some form or other been guilty of extreme poor judgment. The reality of the matter is this just has to end. Human kind must learn to live peacefully with their neighbors. It is imperative to stop the rhetoric between the sides. It just breeds more stupidity from extremists from both sides. Both sides claim to be intelligent, really? Do intelligent people keep arguing or do they get together and SOLVE the problem. Personally I think we humans are better than this and we should all be intelligent enough to strive for understanding among ourselves.

Mankind should always work together to build, not destroy. Destruction is the product of madmen.
