  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

Just wondering why a landline sounds better with a crisper sound quality than a cell phone
Is there a reason for this ?

Landlines are normally shielded to prevent outside interference. Cell phones are essentially radios and their signals can be interfered with by other radio signals, atmospheric conditions, lightning, even sunspots.

Basically cellphone service providers forget somewhere along the line that cellphones actually make phone calls and as such put very little effort into sound quality . Cellphones employ Nodes that allocate bandwidth and are generally assigned a low rate coupled with a microphone the size of a pin head that is often either covered in plastic or sunken into a device .
They spend all their energy perfecting the actual computer portion of a device such as text and email and not the transmission capability .

    Strange , I don't find that it's a problem generally.

I gave up my landline , because the mobile service had become so good ,
    including sound quality.

Usually if mobile quality is not good , we can figure why .
Not holding phone or talking into it correctly , poor service area , and things like that.
With the old landline service , it was just pot luck.
OK most of the time , but when not , it just wasn't and you never knew why.
All you could do was hang up and try again , hoping you'd get a better line.

    Even international.
Had family in England recently , about as far away as you can get on the planet , 12,000 miles , and was totally impressed with mobile calls.
Much better than line calls years ago.
Quicker connection to , and cheaper .

The other thing , for me , being literally half deaf (if not more than) , I can have speaker phone instantly , and volume control , everywhere I go ,
and both better than what I had on landline , even with an expensive special home phone.

I'm actually amazed how good it is , for such small speakers and microphones.

Nine times out of ten , if I'm having trouble hearing , I say so , and get ,
"oh I'm sorry I wasn't talking into the phone , is that better ?".
    and it's fixed , instantly.

Which comes back to my first comment.
It's usually how you use/hold them that causes bad sound , in my experience.

I threw my cell phone in the trash a couple of years ago. Best thing I have done in a long time.

      Interesting.
      Why ?

Couldn't you get away from it ?
      Couldn't leave it behind ?
      Couldn't turn it off ?
Couldn't go anywhere without it ?

I noticed people would call and really expect me to answer. That and I got tired of carrying it around.
Forgot where I put it once and found it on the hood of my car nearly a week later.
Just couldn't see any reason to pay for something I had absolutely no use for.

I have actually saved money by giving up my landline.
It cost x amount every month , whether I used it or not , plus plus , for everything I did use it for.

By the end of the first year with no landline , the cost of a new android with large screen , unlimited text , 100 minutes a month (far more than I ever use) plus whatever data I used , plus some other tech stuff , was less than half the monthly landline for a year.

It's been win win all round.

My landline is one of those with the computer in the same bill but it never goes up the rest of my life.
It is cheaper than my cell phone and that was years ago. Don't have to buy a cell phone or pay more every couple of years.

I would blame the carrier before I blamed the phone and it may depend on where you are as well as the call getting bounced from tower to tower if you are mobile. I just got a Galaxy S8 yesterday as well as the other dozen phones I already have and it has great reception but then again I have a couple great carriers.

I get crystal clear reception and rarely hear "can you hear me now" lol.

Seems you n I have similar experiences ,
and I've never spent more than about a fifth of the cost of a S8 , on any phone ,
since the first shoe box model ,
which was of dubious quality and usefulness :) (in this remote area)

Luckily I rarely pay for the phones I have and they are normally supplied by clients and I am basically obligated to use them if I am going to take their money lol. If I had to pay retail I might be a little more critical but have had mostly good experiences with devices. We don't have a ton of carriers in Canada and as such they can concentrate on service more than burying their competition so we have great carrier service here for the most part.

I am just glad I dropped a client that gave me Apple products ... not a fan. They are too invasive like google is.

Randy mentioned it above that a flip phone will suffice if you are only making calls ... I agree.

I agree about the flip phone.
Still have my years old one , as a backup.
It mostly lives in the glovebox , turned off and ignored.
Only needs charging occasionally , and handy if away from home and need a phone in a hurry , but haven't yet.
Just has standard prepay credit , lasts a year , so use it enough to use a few dollars cedit each year.
Guess it'll be round till the battery is useless , or it gets drowned :)

I have a landline and no cell phone. I block calls from those that don't leave a voicemail.

    1. slutwolf
      lol , I'm opposite.
      Never use voice mail.

Don't leave a message on voicemail , call back or send a txt.
If it's not important enough for that , it dosent matter .

Let's face it , it takes less time to text "call" or "call me" , than waiting to , and leaving a voice message.

I remember back in the days of business ,
message landline phone , over half the recorded messages were useless anyway.

The other thing with modern phones ,
is they tell you if you missed a call , and , usually who from.
If they don't want you to know who from , then it's up to them to call back , or whatever.
Not up to me to find out :)

It was when I retired and didn't have to wear a cellphone, I opted out. Kept the landline, and caller id tells
me whether to answer or send it to the answering machine.

But we're to the point of a cell is almost a necessity, so I'll have one once again....reluctantly.

    Interestingly ,
the old Motorola flip phone , when turned on , still lasts longer (on standby as it were) than the much newer android.
Great away on the boat , as I can just leave it on , ready for emergency , or to receive incoming inquiries , and only need to charge every few days.

A sad example of unwise usage here recently.
A teen boy out jogging in morning , listening to something on his cellphone through earphones ,
walked through a zigzag safety barrier , and straight out in front of a commuter train.
    Bang , dead.
    Was all captured on CCTV.
He had to go left round right round left , to get on the level crossing , and never even glanced up ,
even with warning signs placed low , specifically so drongo's on phones etc , looking down , couldn't/shouldn't miss them.
    Morning rush hour computer time.

I happen to know the particular crossing , as had friend lived close ,
and remember the trains were frequent , even back then , so no excuse for not being aware.

One of the disadvantages of cellphones
    :(

my flip phone has a built in FM radio and i use ear buds but if I need to be aware I
      leave one out......

works great watching a sports game at a loud sports bar and hearing the game called on the radio in my ear....
