I'm lost

I don't get the editing on this site

can anyone help me out with some tips. For example the quotation mark situation and indentation. I'm new and I'm a little lost I would appreciate some advice, if anyone has any.

If you are working in Word, I can give you the tips that I use. These tips work for me personally, but I have had people tell me that they tried these things and it worked for some and didn't for others. It's all really trial and error, posting stories until you come across something that works.

First, my paragraph indentions have never shown up when I copied and pasted, so I leave them out. Instead, I write block paragraphs like the way this post is. To get the paragraph breaks to show up, I hit the ENTER key AT LEAST twice, but I usually hit it 3 times to make sure there is a break between the paragraphs. If you only hit it once and try to indent paragraphs, the whole thing will run together and look something like this particular story of mine: http://stories.xnxx.com/story/23862/Master_Pt_2

I have heard others say they use Word with no problem, while others use Notepad or Wordpad with no problem. I've tried all of them, and in my case, none of the formatting comes across when I C & P the text. So I stopped using indentions and hit the 'enter' key about 3 times to put a couple of extra blank lines between paragraphs. Italics, bold, underlines, etc. have to be put into the story manually using the buttons for those on the submission page once you have pasted the story. It's annoying, and it takes a bit of time and luck to get it right, but it's worth it. A lot of readers will not touch a story if they are greeted by a giant on-going wall of text, myself included.

Hope this helps a bit. I'm sure others will give you their own tricks of the trade. As I said, it's really all trial and error. If one thing doesn't work, try something else.

I wish I had sought your advice before I started my story, The Big Move. It looks like hell but I think it's a good story and hope your ideas will help me greatly improve the readability of future chapters. thanks.
