I'm going back to the second post as I just saw it. I have my own issues with writing the sex scenes. There's a few reasons for that. One is as CJ said, there are only so many ways to describe things and then it starts to feel repetitive. It is actually easier to describe things through circumspect situations than directly.

The second is that once you write a scene once or twice from your mental perspective they tend to come out as repetitive and dead taking away from the story instead of adding too it.

I also agree that if your trying to tell a story, the entire thing can be ruined by too much sex. I like most of the stories I've read on here but there are some where the characters are having so much sex how are they doing anything else at all. When reading you should be able to suspend disbelief just as though you were watching TV or Movie. When things push credulity just a little too far it removes the reader from the story.

I'm still working on my own writing and appreciate the feedback I've been getting from the authors on this site. Comment, Questions or Opinions?

Wow I hadn't heard about this going on. Wraith666 was one of the first friends I made on here and the first one that became what I felt was a real friend not just a name and a picture like so many are.

I wish I had talked to him more recently, but to his family I want to say that I'm sorry for your loss he seemed like a very good person. I will miss his point of veiw on things and I thank him for helping me with the questions I had around the time we met.

Funny though... English is not my husband's native language, but he speaks it so well that I often forget that, until we sometimes "cross wires" and use words in each other's language incorrectly or differently.

I used the word "foible" at one point, with the meaning of the word as you used it above, and he looked at me funny and asked me what I knew of foibles... turns out it's also a fencing term, and that's the context in which he knew the word.

Go figure!

This is the sister site of Fan Fiction Dot Com. It is the place where Shades of Grey is said to have first gone viral.

They do not accept stories listed as porn, but explicit sex for mature audiences is okay.

Anyone try posting there? Any experiences, good or bad?

I am thinking about setting up an account there, but if the place has a thought-police mentality, like Lit***ica, I don't want to waste my time.

On a totally non-porn subject, a small writers group I take part in just e-published a Halloween collection and yours truly cleaned up a story and submitted it. The stories had to be geared to ages 14 and up. We're only charging $.99 and any money we collect will be donated to a local literacy charity. I guess that makes me sort-of, kind-of, in some way, published.

I am scouting the other place. A friend is setting up an account there. I will lurk and report back.

I know that the sister site, Fan Fiction, is huge. Hundrdeds of thousands of active users, and many more lurkers. It is geared to the Harry Potter/Twilight fan fiction lovers. Not my thing, but apparently the genre has a huge following.

At a cursory glance, the audience sizes and traffic at those places is truly impressive, given that they cannot use outright porn as a draw.

I will try to do this without wikipedia.

Literature may or may not contain sex, but it stimulates the mind foremost. Porn must contain sex, and it stimulates the genital area foremost.

In literature, the plot moves the story. In porn, the sex moves the story, and the plot is optional.

In literature, the plot occasionally necessitates sex. In porn, the plot is a necessary contrivance facilitating sex.

Then of course there are the distinguishing signatures.

Porn is either explicitly or implicitly tagged for carnal interests and fetishes. The tags must be explicated in the first paragraph, or the reader dismisses the story. The first paragraph tags, or adverts, are typically the sum extent of the story's foregrounding.

Literature does not target carnal imperatives and affords itself more time and space for development. Indeed, foregrounding often spans entire chapters, and gets away with it, as long as the author has written well.

Literature can titillate without ever using an expletive. In porn the expletives are requisite, because they serve as necessary cues. Words like cock and cunt typically do not appear in literature, not because they are wrong, but simply because they are trite, lazy words. Literature shuns trite words and expressions.

On another recent thread in this forum (the Advice to Writers thread, I think), Baller16 expressed the dichotomy succinctly. I don't think I responded to his post, but I agreed fully with his sentiment. He wrote that he seldom reads stories on this forum anymore, because too many of the authors are trying to be too creative.

Baller16 is not wrong. He is right. I know exactly what he means.

People here (myself especially) are trying to transcend porn by writing creatively to turn it into something more. Some of his have higher aspirations than others. I am writing literature, or so I am told. Others are trying to write erotic fiction. But most of us have definitely lost sight of writing porn.

And porn is what people come here for.


I see there is another sock/voting-down war brewing, between Dizzyworks and PP. Another one. I won't respond to that thread and bump it, but I will say this: when people come here for porn, and find fiction instead, and vote the fiction down, they are not trolls. They are unhappy customers.

I just asked because it seems to me that one man (or woman's) porn might be another's sexually explicit literature. Obviously there are some cases where the distinction is pretty clear ("Fucking My Niece's Preteen Ass Chap 13!"), but you know it's going to run into grey (pardon the pun) area pretty fast.
