I'd never felt so disconnected as I did then. After four long years trying to make sense of the unfamiliar, the changing patterns, I finally gave up and concentrated on focusing on the repetitive patterns instead.

This helped immensely of course, but one should always be careful to figure in the unexpected anyway, even if one does not allude to outside events. And this is what happened, of course, one unexpected happening suddenly sent my patterns careening to the outer reaches, no matter how desperately I pulled them back. I knew then that they wouldn't return, not fully and absolutely as they were; time is demon of destruction and nobody notices.

Nobody except me, I suppose. I notice. I notice all the tiny little nuances, the fluctuations and change in everything. I see the insect creeping and crawling along the floors but this is ignored or goes unseen by those who should really be more observant. I can only do what I can do, and no more or no less than just that.

My joints grew weary one after the other, seizing up as I scraped through the duties set for me by my creator, that invisible super-human who had not shown themselves since. Nobody tinkered. Nobody cared. Little by little I died, slowly and inexorably, the pain so intense it couldn't be felt or I would have gone mad and turned the patterns into blood-red spatters on white canvas.

I knew what was coming, even though I had had no prior knowledge of it. Abandoned, forgotten, I stewed in darkness. No patterns now, only blackness, thick and quiet, brooding and evil, it swirled heavily around me, then inside me, choking the memories, turning them vile.

And then, the thickly cloying dark lightened, turned lighter, greyer and patterns emerged, so very different from before...now interspersed with those dark red spatters. But movement was impossible, a dream I believe, like a distant gong sounding out hollow and dull.

Twisting, I caught a memory of myself newly created; sparkling like a newly formed star, the possibilities threading out before me in unending rivers. That memory ending as suddenly as it arrived when a charge surged through my body, startling my electrodes into wakeful life.

I was once again a robot.

The fight or flight stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline kick in and make thinking difficult because your body has to DO something to react instead of think...it's like they block the neurons in your brain...stress is also cumulative....
