Thanks. The hair is a wig, so the cut is what it is, but other than that, I did the styling/arranging. The earrings are a combination--my ears aren't pierced so long ago I bought some cheap clip-ons on eBay. The earrings were junk, but they fastened to the clips through a small hole in the body of the clip. I discovered that most "post-style" earrings would fasten to the clips, so I tossed the junk ones and got some nicer earrings to use with the clips. I think the hoops in the picture came from KMart.

Depends on what I'm doing. For normal shopping, probably my black miniskirt, although the more modest skirt I tried out this last strip is now a close second because it reaffirms my "feminity". By the way, the answer to your question is that I haven't been out since my failed adventure at the porn shop. When the snow on the ground is higher than my heels, it's not a good time to be out in a micro-miniskirt (let alone trying to navigate icy sidewalks and parking lots in those heels).

Theoretically, a great idea, but I have enough trouble finding heels I can squeeze into. Finding boots that fit (and are sexy enough ) sounds too tough to be worthwhile. Wish my feet weren't so big.

I know finding stuff in my size is tough too. Not so much in the shoe department, but tops are terrible in the shoulders.

FWIW, the "exploration of Suzy" (which is what this thread is rapidly becoming) is sailing along. I decided I just had to wear the red skirt out and during the day seemed as good a time as any. I actually made 5 stops. I still like the "clean the windshield" routine because it lets me show off while still being close enough to the car to take off if things start going wrong, so 4 of the stops were that style. I'ts 85 degrees here today so lots and lots of people were out, and lots of them were within a few feet of me, but I didn't have a single negative reaction (except for an old woman who obviously thought my skirt was too short and/or too tight). I actually discovered that I like daytime excursions better--I can wear my sunglasses, which cover up the part of my makeup that I'm the worst with. The 5th stop was at a drugstore. I had to return a Redbox movie anyhow, and they had a box, so it seemed like a reasonable thing to do. While I was returning it, I got an irresistable urge to go inside. I spent a good 10 minutes strolling around the store and eventually bought a tube of lipstick. None of the other customers or the clerk (a 30-something male) ever batted an eye, so I really am starting to feel confident about my ability to pass. I may actually be ready to try the suggestion above about spending some time at Walmart, although it won't be my local one for sure. It also won't be "all day"--not in the 5" spike heels I wear! It's tough staying on my feet for an hour in these things! I also feel like I need to slow down, because I may be getting too confident, which could get me in trouble.

Well, that quote was pretty early on, when I had lots of doubts about my ability to "pass". My fear of "getting caught" at that point had two aspects. The first was getting caught by someone who knows me and who would publicize the discovery. That worry still applies, since I'm in a small town where such publicity would wreck my career. I handle that by making sure I'm out of town when I'm dressed and by avoiding situations where I might get "trapped" in a confined space with someone who knows me (i.e., I'll go to a mall, but not the mini-market near my home). The second (then) was being laughed at. Yeah, it's easy to say "move on and try again", but at that point in time, I doubt that I would have. It's more likely that I would have been humiliated and felt like I could never do that again. Luckily, that didn't happen, and, since then I've made enough public appearances to convince me that I do look feminine enough. Even if it does happen now, I've had enough success that I'll survive it, so it's no longer a concern and I will be able to move on and try again.

I scrolled through all six pages and noticed that primarily you have a small group of posters who post over and over again, who keep the thread alive. You also do a lot of quotes which takes up a lot of the space.

Thanks for the kind words, sweetie. There are bound to be haters popping in to criticize (like the poster above you), but the vast majority of the comments I've received are very supportive, so I see no reason to stop. I've even started receiving pm's from other cd's looking for help with their journeys, so it would be a little mean if I stopped now.

As for keeping it up, my goal has always been to solve that problem...then to make it go up again.

I love your Thread Suzy. I have finally gone out in public dressed. Thank you for the inspiration. What fun it was, so exciting walking in the evening, all dressed up.....just another woman out walking her dog along the river. I passed right by several guys, no one noticed or cared. I drove around my city for several hours over two evenings, and went for a few walks and did some window shopping. It's baby steps for now, but, soon I will go shopping in a store. We have a Consignment shop that is CD friendly. My dear friend has already gone in dressed, and the clerks were very helpful and supportive.

Hey Suzy, it's been a long time since I last posted. I've been reading about your progress; in terms of being comfortable in public, and your unsatisfactory (on many levels) trip to the porn store.

Can I say, without sounding condescending, that I am so impressed with the journey you have made so far, and are continuing to make. I remember back at the beginning, you were barely able to be seen in public as Suzy. Now you are going out in public and into various stores with minimum discomfort.


I do have another piece of advice.....

Public restrooms-
I understand your dilemma about not wanting to use the women's room. I suggest you use the "handicapped/ family bathroom". Every bathroom of this style that I have seen, has been a one room facility with one toilet and one sink. They have a lock on the door, so no one can enter while you are in there.

You will definitely find them in malls and probably in the larger stores. You could look for them while shopping, or call stores/ malls ahead of time. Then ask if there are these kinds of facilities and where they are located.

Sorry, last weekend just didn't make it for me. However, next weekend, especially Sunday, is looking good. After all, Spring will officially be here and what better way to celebrate? Am I sure? No, I'm not. But, I also wasn't sure I was ready to go out in public in a skirt that first time and I certainly wasn't sure I was ready to actually get out of the car. I definitely wasn't sure that I was ready to walk into a store, let alone stroll down the hallway of the mall, interact with a salesperson or sit and eat in the food court. And, don't even get me started on how unsure I was about walking into a porn shop in a skirt that I knew would show the tops of my stockings if I stretched even a little bit and would show my panties if I bent over (which I did....a lot). What I have learned through all of this is that I'm pretty good at facing my fears and doing things I'm not sure I'm capable of. Whether or not that continues as my journey passes into more intimate areas is hard to predict, but, based on how far I've come, I think the chances are pretty good.
