Just to change the subject - have any other writers managed to use bold, italics or undelining in the story site? I put mine up for validation and I don't know if it will come out in the final posting. I will be really pissed if it turns out wrong, I found the interface very annoying.

This reminds me (and I'm dating myself here) of the group Sergio Mendez and Brazil '66 (from the mid 1960's). There were two very SEXY females, in that group, who did all the vocals. Sergio had them both in mini-dresses and singing almost face touching face (in Portugese) and it was so fucking HOT! Same as you said, Nicola, you just wanted to yell, "Kiss her! Kiss her!" But they didn't. But, God, their voices were so sexy as they sang in harmony.

There may be videos of them on YouTube or take a look at their old album covers and you can imagine how it was to see them.

Hiya Cija,

I'm still trying to figure out the bold/ital stuff for posting.

I don't know if you use Microsoft Word. Most of us do, so I'll just walk you through my process.

1 - If you don't have a ton of italics or bold, just copy out of Word then paste your story text into the story submission window and then scroll through until you reach the stuff you want to mark up. If you want something in italics, first select the word(s) and then click on italic up above.

One tip, if you can't remember where you did itals (or bold) you can tab over to your document still in Word and do search (ctrl-f), click on 'more', and italic under font style. Then you can click on search for every occurrence. A big pain, but if there isn't a crazy amount of 'specials', then this is the simpler way.

2 - The more complicated way, and it has taken me three stories to figure it out is to do 'save as' in Word, and select Web Page, Filtered. This gets rid of the majority of Microsoft's crazy code - but still requires some cleanup. I'm working on a how-to document to get the text right. If you're interested, just let me know and I'll post it here or send it to you.

Thanks a lot for that - did it turn out ok in the final verified story? By the time I got to the end of the text, I could not highlight the piece I wanted; it kept highlighting way more than I wanted no matter how I tried. In the end I had to type in the square brackets, letter i, slashes etc manually. The text looked clean, no crazy stuff. I can't wait to see it up!

You know what? No! The story is up and all through the text are caret's and I's, etc. I think it was because I had one stray bit of code in there and maybe lemark just ignored the rest. Frustrating, though, because I really worked to get it right

Figured it out:

MS Word marks up using greater than less than signs, so <i> would mean the start of something in italics. This site uses the square brackets around the i and b. Fixed the macro, more tomorrow.

Yay, I used square brackets! I did get the first few lines working with their system OK, as I could highlight a sentence and hit their formatting button, so I could see how to do it, just couldn't highlight stuff at the end of the piece. It uses square bracket i close square bracket to open italics, and square bracket /i square bracket to close it. Waiting to see it validated now.

Seriously though, I try to relate it to an experience that's close to what I'm writing about, and imagine how it would make me feel, but how I would feel is not always the same as how my characters would feel, and this is where, for me in any case, having a solid picture of who each character is comes in.
I find that whatever situation I put them in, they are all very good about telling me how they feel about it.
In fact, sometimes I can't get them to shut up about it.

If you post the newer version it will take a while for it to be validated (whatever that is) and then they'll (most likely) leave the old version up there too and then you have two (of the same story) stuck up there.

That's why I'd advise posting the new version on the forum.

Also avoid posting on the story site until you're SURE it's just the way you want it.

I think you and I may be very similar. I don't know where my characters are gong until they tell me. I hope these ones will tell me how to write my new story.

Ejls - I think Erk's explanation comes close to how I write about the experiences of my characters too!! Which just goes to prove, even if you're wrong about sporks, you can be right about other things - ain't that so Erk?

Of course sometimes my character's take me on a much longer trip then I was expecting.

That's sort of how I do it too. When I write a story, I make sure I have the beginning and ending in mind before I really start to work on it. I might write a few paragraphs initially if the mood strikes me, but before I get into it, I need to have at least a partial plan.

I also tend to put "waypoints" in the story: scenes that define the general direction that the story moves in. That helps to rein in the characters when they want to go someplace I never intended. The trick, then, is to come up with plausible reasons why the characters would do what I want them to do rather than what they want to do.

On a recent Nicola Matthews thread, there was a discussion about whether it is possible to reliably submit a story update to the Sex Stories section. The point is that the update must actually update the story, and not become a duplicate post.

We all know the site administrators here are pretty much asleep, so only recent experience is relevant.

Has anyone successfully accomplished what I have just described, say, in the past six months?

If so, how did you submit the story? How did you phrase the instructions?

Any assistance would be appreciated. I would reply with, I don't know, 10 of those puckered lip icons.

P.S. Some history, to whom it may concern. Back in the fall of 2009, Lexmark [sic] assured us that along with the changes to the comments/voting, we would be getting the ability to edit our stories. That never happened. A couple of my stories have formatting errors beyond my control. I would like to replace the stories with clean versions.

P.P.S. The above running topic is of interest to me. Much of what I write, I have never lived. I write to live vicariously. Yet writing for me is seldom a process of discovery. Every chapter and scene is planned. I create a storyboard in paraphrase, from start to finish, with explications of every character and every scene, before I start. As for evoking feeling and emotion through characters who are acting out experiences that I myself have never lived... that for me is the fun part. One of my main characters in Beauty is a varsity cheerleader and acrobat. I have never been a cheerleader. But I am athletically inclined, and I coerce myself to perform, in a proactive effort to buttress my self esteem, a kind of self-imposed therapy, as some cheerleaders and thespians are wont to do. So in lieu of outright experience, linkages to analogous experiences are helpful. (E.g., although I have never broken my arm, I have skinned my knees aplenty, so I know what pain feels like. By analogy, I can convey the sensation of a broken arm.) In my view, empathy is as important as experience, in the successful delivery of authentic characters. In that respect I think the primary task of an author of fiction is to pay attention to absolutely everything.

I would agree to be patient if not for the fact that requests that have been made well over a month ago have not even been acknowledged. They asked for proof, I gave them proof of character attacks. In the administrations and moderations failure to enforce their own rules which are supposed to protect the members of the xnxx community. Why have rules if they aren't held to some regard?

Even being volunteers regarding keeping this site afloat means nothing. Each writer, verification pic poster and even the political pundits are all contributing to this site for free and see no profit whatsoever; so being unpaid shouldn't slow down the time it takes for the brain to form a response and send it to the fingertips to type it out.

It is their duty to at the very least give us the respect of a response "oh we are busy right now but this matter will be resolved" or "I don't read my PM's because I become inundated with so many that it isn't worth my while" you know, an explanation for the member who is being talked shit about and who is seeking some sort of result by contacting a "superior" member of this shoddy organisation.

Hey, myself and ELP have posted a review each of someone who hasn't been reviewed or even gotten a hat tipped in their direction. We contributed to the review thread. This is the conversation thread
