I saw something on QI the other night, a Japanese feller was in Hiroshima the day the bomb hit, he survived and got on the train to find refuge elsewhere and wound up in Nagasaki the next day, yep he got hit by that one too, luckily he survived and died in his nineties.

At Eternity's Gate aka Old Man in Sorrow by Van Gogh, painted shortly before he killed himself. BTW, if you're ever in Amsterdam, they have the Van Gogh Museum that will take your breath away. Paintings the show all his mood swings of his bipolar illness; paintings in the dark dreary colors of depression all the way to vivid, almost psychedelic colors during his mania. Within walking distance is the Rijks Museum with many Rembrandts and Vermeers.

A Van Gogh that's a lot more well known "Starry Night". I had a friend who painted an entire wall in her living room like the Starry Night sky.

Picasso's "The Dream" (Le Reve), a painting of his mistress Marie-Therese. Notice the hands in her lap that suggest masturbation and the penis on her head. She has sex on the brain! I got to see this painting in Las Vegas of all places. It's owned by hotelier Steve Wynn, who has an incredible art collection, much of which is on display at the Bellagio. Sadly for an art collector, he is going blind from retinits pigmentosa.

Georgia O'Keeffe is a favorite of mine. It is said that she didn't see her paitings as sexual. Granted many were of bones and mountains, but what does this remind you of?

Another "not sexual" painting.

Although most of us remember her as an old woman, She was quite beautiful when she was young. This was taken by lover Alfred Stiegletz.

There is an O'Keeffe museum in Santa Fe. It doesn't really have her most famous paintings because those are spread across the US. It is well worth going to though. There are quite a few other museums as well as dozens of galleries. Santa Fe is an art town!
