The shooting was caused by a young (17 to early 20s) man dressed in dark or black clothing. some reports said he shouted names at the people he shot, others said he was silent during the shooting and after he was captured.

No mention was made of either W. or the environment.

Second I have not seen to many liberals advocating killing the rightwing consevatives but i have heard a lot of rightwings advocating killing the liberals.
I have always thought everyone should know how to use and own a firearm. I guess the liberals will have to arm themselves now.
I have one question: The conservatives say they need to have the right to carry a firearm to protect themselves and others, so where were the so called protectors at the shooting? It seems the righwings idea of protection is killing anyone that does not agree with them.
The religious right is neither.

"Yelling and screaming is counterproductive," she told the Sierra Vista Herald at a Congress on Your Corner event last week. There, one visitor dropped a gun at the meet n' greet held in a Douglas Safeway, her staff says.
That has aides, who called police to the event, concerned for her safety.
"We have never felt the need before to notify law enforcement when we hold these events," said spokesman C.J. Karamargin.

One of the callers to the Service Employees International Union said, "I suggest you tell your people to calm down, act like American citizens, and stop trying to repress people's First Amendment rights... That, or you all are gonna come up against the Second Amendment."

She is a former Republican, turned Democrat. I do not think that has anything to do with her being Democrat. We will find out as the story progresses and we get the motive behind the shooter who was stopped by a bystander.

In July, a California man known for his anger over left-leaning politics engaged in a shootout with highway patrol officers after planning an attack on the ACLU and another nonprofit group. The man said he wanted to "start a revolution" by killing people at the ACLU and the Tides Foundation.
Giffords herself has drawn the ire of the right, especially for her support of the health care bill from politicians like Sarah Palin.

Her Tucson office was vandalized a few hours after the House vote to approve the health care law in March, with someone either kicking or shooting out a glass door and window.

A surgeon is "very optimistic" about Rep. Giffords. He adds that she was shot in the head "through and through."
"We cannot tell what kind of recovery but I'm about as optimistic as it can get in this situation."
He also says that there are 10 patients from the shooting, one has died, five are in critical condition. The dead patient was a child -- the only one that came to the hospital.

In horrific timing, Arizona govenor Jan Brewer just signed a new law lifting restrictions on concealed weapons.

PHOENIX — Favoring the constitutional right to bear arms over others' concerns about gun safety, Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill making Arizona the third state allowing people to carry a concealed weapon without requiring a permit.

The measure takes effect 90 days after the current legislative session ends, which likely puts the effective date in July or August.

"I believe this legislation not only protects the Second Amendment rights of Arizona citizens, but restores those rights as well," Brewer, a Republican, said in a statement....

By eliminating the permit requirement, the Arizona legislation will allow people 21 or older to forego background checks and classes that are now required.

UPDATE: Dr. Peter Rhee reports that the neurosurgeons are finished working on Gabrielle Giffords and that they are optimistic that she will recover, although she is still in critical condition. They have 10 patients, 5 in critical condition and 5 currently in the OR. The one patient who died was a nine-year-old girl.
