Default HOCKEY ........ are you kidding me ?

Okay Boston had enough time to enjoy the cup and now it's time to put up or shut up if they want to keep it , lol .(sorry Tina)

Training camp starts in less than 3 weeks and some teams have made dramatic changes to their rosters or at least the new draftee's will make a valiant effort to crack the starting roster .

Just going to post articles of interest as often as I can find interesting enough one's to read and look forward to hearing what others are expecting or hoping for this season .

Of note to me is that Pronger will be a scratch for the start of the season with Philadelphia .

TORONTO -- Winnipeg Jets forward Rick Rypien has been found dead in his Alberta home.
http://forum.xnxx.com/newthread.php?do=postthread&f=5

An important rule change that is being looked at really hard :
Quote :
One of the interesting rules that the league’s brass and general managers took a look at today was the Delayed Penalty Rule. The added wrinkle would require a team to not only gain possession of the puck, but to also get the puck out of their own zone before the referee blows the play dead. Think of all of those tense moments when fans are yelling for the team to just touch the puck; now they’d be yelling to not only touch the puck, but get possession, and completely clear the puck.

A very informative link to hockey news :
http://www.nhl.com/

PS ......... welcome to the Winnipeg Jets , enjoy your five year stay before you go under again , lol .

Possible changes to the nets will allow for more scoring opportunities and players are generally positive about it . Goalie's are another story though and will have a harder time moving laterally to defend against a "wrap around" goal . It will only add 4 inches behind the net but that is a huge area that allows for more stick handling room . A verification line set 3 inches in the net will help off ice officials as well .

I realize that higher scores mean more fans and thus more revenue. But I'm with the goalies on this one.

And Sidney Crosby isn't looking good

Everyone has stayed pretty closed mouthed about this one and even Sidney isn't saying anything as of yet but here is the latest news as of Aug. 15/11

Sidney Crosby is training as if he will start the Penguins' season opener on Oct. 6. His status is still up in the air, however, with rumors flying that lingering symptoms from the concussion he suffered in January will hold him back. Pens' general manager Ray Shero wouldn't comment either way on Crosby's status, emphasizing only that the star center has "been going very hard."
http://www.sbnation.com/2011/8/15/23...ins/in/1683880

I totally agree that the shallower net will make it a lot bigger for the goalie's and it will be up to the defensemen to pick up that slack and help out their goalie's . The fans will definitely be the beneficiaries of this one . It isn't written in stone as of yet though and may still need some tweeking to become "law" .

Just as long as no-one has another brainfart and comes up with another "Fox Puck" idea , lol .

If you are to stupid you see a group of guys all skating in a certain direction and not know that they are chasing the puck , you should stick to something like basketball where it is almost impossible to lose sight of the ball , lol .

Canadian yes but they still represent their respective American teams with pride .

Ilya Bryzgalov, Philadelphia -- Talk about an organizational change: The Flyers traded away their top two centers (Jeff Carter and Mike Richards) while signing arguably the best goaltender on the market in Bryzgalov. The Flyers haven't had consistent, top-level goaltending in years, but that's what they're expecting from Bryzgalov, who left Phoenix to sign a nine-year deal. Bryzgalov will have more offensive support than he had with the Coyotes, but he'll also be under more pressure to produce while playing for a team with much higher expectations.

Philly will definitely have some better opportunities to improve and maybe put less pressure on their defense to pick up the slack for "decent" at best goal tending last season . This should allow for a slightly different strategy in the offense department as well . Other teams that will see dramatic changes might include the Oilers where the re-acquisition of Ryan Smyth will help newer and future stars to pick up their game some . The Panthers went and did some house cleaning as well .

Don't know if anyone has been paying attention to the pre-season in NHL hockey but they are using a new rule that involves the "delayed penalty" where now not only does the team causing the infraction need to touch the puck to blow the play dead , but they also need to clear their zone completely and until they do the opposing team gets a man advantage by pulling their goalie and the play can go on for some time due to this rule change and increase the chance of the opposing team scoring on the penalized team .

It is just another way of getting more excitement for the fans and also to try and send a message not to take unnecessary penalties (yes there are times when taking a penalty is the only way)

transplant players are still citizens of the city they play for. the legal aspect is they have to pay massachusetts taxes to play for the BOSTON BRUINS...

me being a Boston native and knowing it was almost 40 years since they held the cup I like the odds...

But being a central Ohio transplant myself.. I would like to see the Blue Jackets atleast get into the playoffs this year..

I can't remember a year when I have seen so many fights in the pre-season with all the great new talent trying to impress and being full of piss and vinegar they get a little to wound up and all hell breaks loose on the ice .

Personally I have no problem with a couple guys going toe to toe on the ice but am always aware that one day soon one fight will end with dire results , ending a potentially great career in the blink of an eye .

Suspensions are being handed down quickly as well by of all people Brendan Shanahan who never was in the running for the Lady Bing Trophy . He was swift to send Leblond from the Calgary Flames packing (4 pre-season and one regular season game) and Shelley of the Philadelphia Flyers as well (5 pre-season and 5 regular season games).

Some days I almost think he is picking on me since his handy work has happened to the 2 teams that I am most closely related with .

Shani was an all around good player and doesn't have much skin left on his knuckles to this day and who better to carry a big stick and stop bullshit hits from behind that you are considered lucky if you come out of it with just a few cuts and a broken nose .

Vancouver once again released Manny Legace and I hope neither side is going to make it a three strikes thing with him . Legace has some good games left in him but there comes a time when you spend more time going from team to team to try out than you do going from city to city to play games , that you might want to say "fuck it" I'm golfing fishing and golfing .

For me liking the Edmonton Oilers is on my list right behind giving myself a root canal without novacaine but has anyone noticed the play of Jordan Eberle . This kid is on a streak and has some serious talent and with the likes of Ryan Smith and first overall draft pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as well as a couple other potential snipers , this guy will be one to watch this season .

Will we see a player drop dead on the ice this season in Philly perhaps ?
Quote:
Scott Hartnell will miss Monday night’s preseason game against the New York Rangers due to what the Flyers are calling an “elevated heart rate,’’ a condition that will be checked by a cardiologist
Coincidence that he has the word heart (Hart) in part of his name ?????

For the record, I am a Habs fan, but 'grats on Boston for winning the cup. There were alot of whiners on our side and all, but I tend to ignore them. It's nice to see Original 6 teams winning the cup instead of the expansion crap. That's what is wrong with hockey imo, there's too many teams now and too few quality players.

Oh, and Vancouver no. 1 in odds of winning the cup? Not with BobbyLoo in nets. Guy's a choke artist.

Hab's fan huh ......... I hear Ump coming with a comment to follow , lol .

My book today has Vancouver and Washington both at 7/1 and Boston at 10/1 this minute .

Nowhere in my soul can I support the Canadiens, sorry----but I do agree with you in general spirit.

Here is how I would like to see the Cup go in the next couple of decades:

BRUINS win every third year (I'm not greedy) for next 21 seasons.

TORONTO win every fourth year for next 20.

DETROIT win every sixth year;

CHICAGO win every seventh year;

CANADIENS can win once;

two expansion teams (preferably the Devils and the Flyers) can win once each

and the RANGERS can suck my dick.

As far as I am concerned, the Rangers could never win another game until Armageddon, and the Canadiens can only win their games against the Rangers.

I wouldn't mind the Canucks and the Hurricanes winning once in a while either-----and I am already getting a warm spot fot the return of the Jets, but beyond that.....

Penguins
Capitals?
Stars?
Avalanche??
Kings?
Sabres?
Predators?
Sharks?

etc., etc., etc........

speaking of `put up or shut up' why don't you, OP! Damn pessimist! Many in the `Peg have been waiting a Long time for a return of the Jets. You have nothing...just pessimism and an overblown ego!

Ump, Toronto? Are you effing serious? The organization ices a friggin' AHL team every season!

*edit* I'm glad the Peg got the Jets back, beats the heck out of Atlanta fanwise. Bettmann has gotta be squirming knowing that he was wrong, but the other side of me is thinking he will try anything in his power to try and prove himself right. The sooner Bettmann gets out, the better the sport will be.

I didn't say I thought they WOULD win. I just like Toronto.

Who should I like? The Ducks (puke!)? The Islanders? (double puke!)??

I am a Bruins fan, through and through.

The Canadiens ruined my enjoyment of the game too many times to count.

Enough said.

LOL, it's all good.

Tonights preseason game was actually pretty good to watch, can't wait to see the full roster in action though. You think Thomas will be able to maintain his insane numbers from last season, or do you think he will come back to earth?

I think he's always been that good, but he needed some kind of defense in front of him, which the B's have put together the last two years.

The problem is, he's no spring chicken. If he was 27 or 28 with 5 or 6 years experience and coming into his prime, that is one thing.

10 years older, the odds are, he MIGHT have 1 or at the most 2 more years he could come close to those numbers, if the defense holds up.

I'm more concerned about the offense, actually. If he DOESN'T hold the opposition to 2 goals or under a game, if you look at the regular season stats for the B's (not how on-again-off-again explosive they were in the play-offs), they could be a .500 team with a goalie or goalies who give up 3 goals a game.

And a team that is ranked 4th out of all of them to take the next Stanley Cup .

If the Peg can sustain a team with that small a market then good on them . I get that if they don't support them this time that they know the consequences and will do it because it's better to have a team then not .

It's gotta drive you nuts how the Habs can turn him into a sieve at times though.
One thing about Boston's acquisition of Pouliot, be prepared to watch him fall alot, kid has skills, but christ, he tends to wind up on his ass for no apparent reason all the time. Plus it seems he has confidence issues, hopefully Julien can pull his head outta his arse 'cause he was a first round pick but he definitely doesn't play like one.

One last thing, Chara's near decapitation of Pacioretty, clean hit or not? Put aside being a fan and look at it objectively. I'd like an honest opinion from the other side.

I talked about the Chara hit when it happened. My opinion: I do not like to see anybody hurt, but it was a clean hit, even under the new QUESTIONABLE rules. If the League is even going to investigate hits like that, they need to outlaw body contact completely. If even the most agile athlete in the world ON SKATES is expected to stop and change direction in less than a second because the opposition player slightly turns his body---and he can't do it, than 40 to 50% of checks would be penalties and suspensions would gut the league of players.

To continue, if players PLANNED on lining up opposition players to run them into the boards at crease points where there are reinforcement ribs, the team they were on would rarely win a game, because they would not be paying attention to the game itself.

Wayne Maki on Teddy Green was sick and avoidable. Chara on Pacioretty was an unfortunate 1/10th of a second hit that wasn't.

Accidents happen, unfortunately, but it is a tough game

Very true .......... these guy's are amped up and with adrenaline coursing through their veins , shit happens that they might not even be aware of "in the moment".

Then again some are just goons and are out to make a name by taking out a certain player , especially as these kids come into the league now a days that haven't learned restraint so well yet .

Just look at all the fighting so far in the pre-season .
