Toronto finishes their series with KC tonight and hopes to improve to 10-6 with a win.

Morrow (0-1) gets the mound for TO, while Chen (0-1) is up in the rotation for KC tonight.

Hopefully Texas (13-3) helps out with a win against the fucking Yankee's (9-6) so that they don't run away with the lead from Toronto in the standings.

Hmmm ... I just had to give my head a shake after seeing that I have 31 posts in this thread ... and I don't even like baseball.

I know a lot about it and the guys in the MLB but usually I only watch the playoffs if there is no hockey on. Plus I'm a proud Canadian that needs to support our Toronto Blue Jays in some small way at least by posting about them.

A serious question, what is the difference between the AL and NL, I know about the DH but I hear the commentators saying that there is a difference between the leagues and players sometimes find it hard switching from one to the other, so are there any differences in the rules or the way the game is played other than the DH?

In the NL the Pitchers also have a turn at the bat....

In AL the Designated Hitter takes the place of the Pitcher which does not have to hit....

As far as other rule changes ...I just do not know maybe someone else will...

I knew that one, but the way the commentators go on about a player who has crossed leagues and struggles is beyond me, apart from a pitcher going from the AL to the NL. Maybe it is the quality of the teams.

I just googled it and that was the onlt difference....

except....

http://www.differencebetween.net/miscellaneous/difference-between-al-and-nl/

Still with style of play, in
order
for the AL home plate umpire to watch the pitched ball in flight, he will stare directly above the catcher’s head, while in the NL the umpire will look over the inside shoulder of the catcher.

So it is style of play. Still it is a great game to watch. I watch as many games as I can, if it isn't a Rangers game I applaud both sides unless the outcome effects the Rangers standing. I like their approach to the game, a great batting lineup, and the willingness to run and steal bases at any chance, no other team seems to have the philosophy of Ron's style of play, but it has worked well for the last couple of years and the team was built out of the wreck of bankruptcy

Other than the DH, the other major difference is that the NL sucks and the AL rules.

LOL ... I noticed that you quit updating after the top of the 1st ... let me update further if it is to painful for you.

Texas scores 1 in the bottom of the 1st, Fucking Yankee's score 4 more in the top of the 5th and one more in the top of the 6th, Texas gets one back in the bottom of the 6th ... if my math is correct that puts us at 7-2 NYY with 7 runs on 9 hits with 1 error.

Toronto and KC are tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 5th.

Edit: Texas gets 2 more back in the bottom of the 7th 7-4 Texas.

Your boys are here on the 30th, May 1st and 2nd and then we return the favor in Texas on the 25th,26th and 27th. That's a lot of baseball these guys play and TO only has 3 days off all of May

Toronto gets 2 in the top of the 6th to make the score 3-1 TO

Toronto's defense making habit of double plays

Quote:
KANSAS CITY -- Double your pleasure, double your fun.
Entering Sunday's action, no team in the American League had turned more double plays than the Blue Jays. Four of the team's 21 double plays this season came in Saturday's 9-5 win over the Royals.
Manager John Farrell attributed the infield's success to a couple of factors.

"It's a combination of a few things," Farrell said. "We've got a few more sinkerball pitchers, pitchers that are going to put the ball on the ground. But the one constant from day one has been the defense, whether it's on the infield or in the outfield. ... When you can eliminate a base hit and turn it into an out, reduce the number of pitches thrown by a given pitcher. All those things work hand-in-hand, but our guys have done an excellent job on the infield."
Farrell specifically pointed out a double play from the seventh inning of Saturday's game off the bat of Royals designated hitter Billy Butler. Third baseman Brett Lawrie made a diving stop on a ground ball to his left, got up, and threw to second baseman Kelly Johnson, who relayed to Adam Lind to complete the twin-killing.
"I think we've played very steady defense, and we've not only made the average play, we've made some well above-average plays," Farrell said. "When you look at the double play that Brett started with a diving play to his glove side, those aren't normal plays."

The fucking Yankee's hold on to win against Texas and improve their record to 10-6 while Texas goes to 13-4.

All the runs in the Toronto/KC game have come on home runs including a 2 run shot by Bautista of TO.

Toronto takes another one from KC tonight winning 4-1 to go to 10-6 and is tied for top spot in the AL east with the 10-6 fucking Yankee's.

Morrow gets the win while Cordero (4) gets the save.

If a player is traded from a American League team to a National League team , he must learn what the Pitchers are throwing. That does take time to learn.

And here is why we love the Yankee Fan....

This was just posted to the Rangers page as a comment to last nights game...

Quote:

Holland simply didnt play with his brain and just threw the ball,

we proved that texas stats or stats in general dont mean a thing when playing the Yankees!!
goo Yankees,

im sure kuroda will have a good outing tonight, and of course we are gonna make Darvish pay tonight! funny texas thinks Yanks are a has been team but we won the WS in 09, and texas has yet to win any.

RESPECT GREATNESS BASEBALL FANS!!!

So Humble....

and now for tonight.....we have a Japanese Pitch Off....

Adjustments to the Yankees' starting rotation set up what will be just the seventh matchup in Major League history between two Japanese starters. The Yankees will send right-hander Hiroki Kuroda to the mound on Tuesday night to square off against Yu Darvish and the Rangers.

Toronto drops one to Baltimore 2-1 tonight to go to 10-7. Thames of TO got his 1st round tripper of the season though.

Texas helped out though by taking out the fucking Yankee's 2-0 and keeping them at 10-7 as well.

An oddity though is that Baltimore, NY, TB and Toronto are all at 10-7 with a 6-4 in their last ten games in the AL east.

Alright I will try to explain this the best I can. Yes there is a DH that doesn't play the field but bats for the pitcher in the AL. So in the NL the pitcher hits for himself. So in that aspect there are different rules. Now if a pitcher in the AL who is pitching a game changes positions during let's say the outfield in the same game, that team then loses their DH and that pitcher will then bat where the DH was. Oh that can only happen if they don't take him completely out of the game.

Now in the NL they do a lot of double switching, which is where they will bring in a new pitcher and a position player into the game at the same time, this is usually done when the pitcher is due up to bat, where they will put the new position player into the line up batting where the pitcher that has been taken out spot, putting the new pitcher to bat further in the lineup.

NL games tend to move a lot faster, than AL games. I am not sure why that is, but I believe try to conserve energy thinking they might go a lot longer in a game, without the fear of being taken out because their team needs a hit, and the pitcher is up so the manager might take him out for a pitch hitter. So in that aspect players who get traded or sign to a new team in a league they never played in before, might have trouble adjusting to a different pace of games. Not to mention seeing pitchers they never faced before, and playing in different ballparks where the dimensions a lot different. (Fenway Park comes to mind.) A lot of these things could weigh on the players mind and make them stuggle.

I hoped I helped. I know there is probably more differences, but I hope that helps with what is different between the two leagues.

Yep that is strange but it is so early in the season....

Maybe tonight the Rangers can take the series with the Yankees but we do have a relatively new pitcher up tonight.

Last night Yu Darvish proved why he was worth the 110 million contract dealing with the Yankees as if they were just another Japanese League Team....

He was brilliant in throwing 82 of his 119 pitches for strikes against the Yankees on Tuesday night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. He threw a first-pitch strike to 20 of 33 hitters.

Darvish pitched 8 1/3 shutout innings in a 2-0 victory for the Rangers.

Everyone hates on the Yankees, but I find that Boston fans are just as arrogant with their Bosox Nation. I also dislike the way that franchises can move from city to city just to get better fan support, I can never imagine any of our footie teams trying that shit, unless of course you are a shit team like Wimbledon.

That helps a lot, thanks.
When you are a kid in the the USA baseball is a great sport (The American Pastime) and if you grew up back in the 50s and 60s the team was the Yankees and all we heard was Mickey Mantle...Roger Maris, and all the Yankee Greats with movies about Babe Ruth and Joe Dimaggio as well as Lou Gerrick....everyone loved the Yankees as a team....

http://www.ultimateyankees.com/

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teams/yank.shtml

BUT...

Maybe 10 to 15 years ago the Yankees fans turned really nasty...

You do not want to go to their ballpark if you are pulling for another team.

They are obnoxious...throw drinks on you as well as spit on you...

Bunch of really fucked up people....

==========================

As far as teams moving--- there have not been that many over the years and it is mainly because a city is not supporting the team and they are going broke...

It is all about money...in this country....

I am surprised JPT did not show it to explain how the Toronto Blue Jays dismantled the Rangers Pitching staff from starter to relievers and closers...

Maybe 10 to 15 years ago the Yankees fans turned really nasty...

You do not want to go to their ballpark if you are pulling for another team.

They are obnoxious...throw drinks on you as well as spit on you...

Bunch of really fucked up people....

As far as teams moving--- there have not been that many over the years and it is mainly because a city is not supporting the team and they are going broke...

It is all about money...in this country....

That is really interesting, because the ONLY time I ever saw that at a Yankee game was when I was a kid and they were playing at Shea Stadium while the old Yankee Stadium was being renovated.

Idiots were throwing beer and squirting mustard at people.

I've been to Yankee Stadium (old and new) about a dozen times in the last 15 years, and other than being as energetic and loudly supportive of their team, Yankee fans were not at all rude or obnoxious.

By far the worst fans were in Philadelphia. By far----no comparison to any stadium I've ever been in.

Boston is loud and worse than the Yankee fans as far as being obnoxious---and I think they are exponentially worse since winning a couple of World Series.

Cardinal fans are enthusiastic, but not rude.

Unfortunately, fans in Baltimore, Detroit and Pittsburgh (while they might love their teams) are not as loud and into the game---which is actually sad. The few fans that come out to see the Rays in Tampa are supportive, but they are usually a small lot.

Considering that it wasn't looking so good on the 30th of April in game 1 with the Jays getting handed a 4-1 loss by your Rangers, they smartened the fuck up and played some ball and showed that they in fact do have what it takes to play with the big boys of the league and currently sit with a 14-11 record. "Took apart" might be a little strong but they found their weaknesses, that's a given and the 11-5 Toronto win last night looked good for TO. Jays are in Texas on the 24th,25th and 26th for another kick at the cat. Texas is coming back to earth with their 17-8 record in probably the easiest division to get out of in the majors since the other 3 teams in that division suck already.

Tampa Bay is on a nice roll with a 17-8 record and atop the AL east and it's good to see the fucking Yankee's below TO in the standings 25 games in.

The LA Dodgers look good ... other than the 8-5 loss to Colorado last night and I am still watching the Washington Nationals do their thing with a 15-9 record, not overly impressive but respectable.

St. Louis fans must be pretty happy with their team so far this season as well with their 16-8 record and the pounding that they gave to Pittsburgh 12-3 last night.

That is what New Yorkers consider being on "good behavior" and to them, not throwing you off of the upper deck is being nice in their minds. The incidents that you speak of are more isolated than the "norm" though and I have seen it first hand that the fans are for the most part rather well behaved for a bunch of neanderthals.

Toronto goes to 15-11 with a 5-0 win against the LA Angels tonight as Morrow pitches a complete game (3-1) on a 3 hitter. Arencibia also smacked a homer for TO in this one. Brett Lawrie continues to amaze with his great play.

I'm in shock that the lowly Royals (8-16) took out the fucking Yankee's (13-12) tonight 4-3 in KC.

Washington goes to 16-9 with a 2-1 win over Arizona tonight as well.

Detroit fans are among the loudest and most knowledgeble in all of baseball. It is Toronto fans that are quiet and need flashing signs to tell them "make noise" and "cheer". I have been to games at Exhibition Stadium and Skydome. They are good, well-behaved people who seem to think it impolite to make noise in public.

OK, I will accept that, as I have never been to see a game in Toronto and have only been to see the Tigers in Detroit four times (all of which the stadium was like a tomb), but perhaps they were all anomalies.

I just thought I would throw this in: I've only seen The Cubs at Wrigley four times as well----and, while they lost all four games, the fans were insanely (but not rudely) enthusiastic. I think 100 years of losing has made it a point of self-preservation to cheer under the worst circumstances.

LOL ... so true. It's pretty bad that when they flash the "Make Some Noise" banner on the screens, they end it with a please ... damn we are a polite lot.

You should hear the noise in TO on "Chili Dog" night though.

PS ... I'm sure the Ray's fans are more vocal now that TB is leading their division quite nicely with a 17-8 record.

There's nobody at Rays' home games so that keeps the noise WAY down. Nobody at Oakland games either. They should combine the Rays with the A's and put them with the Jays to be the Toronto A Rayjays.

LMFAO ... I laughed so hard that tears started rolling from my eye's. For some reason that was just to funny.

That is a sad state of affairs though when teams like those aren't getting support and probably one of the reasons I dislike baseball as much as I do ... I love playing it, but watching it is way to hard to stay awake to, until playoff time at least. The reason I post here is because someone has to support the one Canadian team we have by telling their story ... plus this thread would have died a long time ago had I not helped resuscitate it periodically.

Oh ya and the Ray's beat the A's 7-2 tonight while we are on that subject. Ray's go to a respectable 19-8 while the A's drop one game under 500.

Don't know wtf happened to Texas as they dropped another one tonight as they lost 6-3 to Cleveland even with Lewis who took his first loss tonight (3-1). Btw, Choo and Hannahan hit round trippers for Cleveland as well tonight.

Toronto goes to 16-11 after a 4-0 win over the LA Angels tonight. Bautista hit his 5th home run tonight in that one.

Fucking Yankee's beat KC for once and improves to 14-12.

Washington wins again 4-3 against Philly tonight to go to 17-9 as well.

Cleveland is at bat tied 2-2 with Texas in the bottom of the ninth and has a chance to hand them another loss.

Toronto trails the Angels 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd.

The Royals are leading the fucking Yankee's 5-1 in the 7th.

Washington beat the Philly's again today 7-1 to go to 18-9.

The White Sox scored one in the 7th and 2 in the ninth to beat Detroit 3-2 putting the Tigers at .500 for the season (13-13).

Baltimore kicked Boston's ass 8-2 to go to 18-9 and the Red Sox to 11-15.

Edit: Texas and Cleveland are in the 11th still tied 2-2.

The Rays and A's are tied 3-3 in the ninth. All 3 of the Rays runs came on homers.

Johnson, Zobrist and Pena have hit round trippers.

Bautista hits a line drive single to score Johnson to tie the score at 1-1 in the TO/Angels game.

Texas ended up winning that game 5-2 btw.

Toronto got spanked by the Angels 6-2 as well when the Angels scored 3 in the 6th to pretty much put it away.

The A's held on with a run in the 12th to beat the Ray's 4-3.

KC finished off the fucking Yankee's 5-1.

Someone else can worry about the NL since I couldn't care less about them ... other than Washington, except to say who was the brainiac that put the White Sox in the AL and the Cubs in the NL but then again The Fucking Yankee's are in the AL and the Met's are in the NL as well. Why do they do this ???

Now I'm curious if there has ever been a crosstown world series ???

I will take baseball for 1000 Alex.

Quote:
The 1906 World Series featured a crosstown matchup between the Chicago Cubs, who had posted the highest regular-season win total (116) and winning percentage (.763) in the major leagues since the advent of the 154-game season; and the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox, known as the "Hitless Wonders" after finishing with the worst team batting average (.230) in the American League, beat the Cubs in six games for one of the greatest upsets in Series history. The teams split the first four games; then the Hitless Wonders exploded for 26 hits in the last two games. True to their nickname, the White Sox hit only .198 as a team in winning the series but it bettered the .196 average produced by the Cubs.
In Game 3, Ed Walsh struck out twelve Cubs, breaking the previous record of eleven set by Bill Dinneen in 1903.
Apparently the Fucking Yankee's and Giants/Dodgers did it 13 times in the early days.

The Fucking Yankee's and the Mets did it in 2000.

Quote:
The name "Subway Series" was commonly applied to 2000 World Series between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets. The Yankees won four games to one and celebrated their 26th championship in front of Mets fans at Shea Stadium. This was the only time that visiting teams had ever won a World Series at Shea Stadium. The other two times the World Series ended at Shea Stadium, in 1969 and 1986, it ended with the Mets winning.
During the 2000 World Series, the City of New York actually decorated some of the trains that ran on the 7 line (which went to Shea Stadium in Queens, home of the Mets) and on the 4 line (which went to the old Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, home of the Yankees). The 7 trains were blue and orange and featured the Mets version of the "NY" logo, and the 4 trains were white with blue pinstripes and featured the Yankees version of the "NY" logo. Also, after each game in the series the city offered free subway rides home for attendees of the game. Yankee fans displayed signs that read "Yankees in 4 and not in 7", predicting that the Yankees would easily dispatch the Mets in a Series sweep as opposed to a difficult, full-length Series. The signs had the 4 in a green circle designating the number 4 train and the 7 in a purple circle designating the number 7 train.

13 times in the "early days"????

I only come up with 12: With the Yankees holding a 9-3 advantage......

The defeat of the fucking Mets made it 10-3 in 2000.....
