No one has tried to ruin the upcoming CAW. There have been suggestions all of which, including mine, have been given with the aim of making the contest better.

This may have been started by you but you don't own it; the forum members do.

The changes you are going to ram through are the rules for future CAWs and some of us would like to see that Going Forward CAWs are not only fair but fun to enter and be involved in, either as a contestant or a reader.

As far as your capacity is concerned : well actually it is my and everyone else's business. This is a members run event and as such the Organizer is limited. Members don't know which accounts are socks or for whom. That's just the way it is, cheating in this event isn't a banning offense so there's no need to check, after all there's no prize money.

Rachel baby face was assassinated, I don't believe for a minute that that wasn't concocted; shed been here for a while, her stories had huge read numbers, she's walking away with the contest and suddenly she's under 18 and some infalliable impartial hardly ever looks at Caws but by coincidence does this time member tells you she's under 18.

I just got a PM from someone that was offended by my telling everyone to STFU so we can get on with the challenge. Again, let me say that there was no intent to offend anyone. I'd just like to see this bickering end as it can serve no purpose other than to damage the CAW Challenge.

It is my opinion that these endless arguments need to end. Of course, that is only my opinion and I'm only making a suggestion. Most of the people here are my friends and I don't want to offend any of them or loose their friendship over an argument of which I am not a part.

Actually your ideas are really good. They would change the winner takes all challenge there is now.

You would have a most votes winner and also a highest rating winner and to encourage new writers there could be a rookies category too.

But the thing I like most about it is that everyone entering would get some response to their entry.

However this is EJLP's thread so I won't mention that.

I would advocate that voting be replaced by critique, but no doubt we'd have apoplectic "contestants" finding out where each other live.

For those that still want a contest there is nothing to stop them from counting up individual scores, seeing who has the most points and declaring a winner. Those that want categories can compare the scores of those stories entered in a specific category. The point is that the writer would get specific input. For example, if a writer got a low score but gets comments that said the readers didn't like stories about people that have sex with household appliances.... they would know that the low rating was not so much about their writing but the subject they chose to write about.

I'm not suggesting this for CAW11. There is too much acrimony for anything to be done now.... but maybe sometime in the future.

At risk of derailing this lovely thread (by rights I should take this response back to the H.G. thread, but I am in fact pleased that it has dropped off the front page), I would suggest that the virtual absence of sexual awakening, as a theme, is a consequence of the fact that the series is targeted to twelve year olds.

Now for a doozy of a confession, given my distempered rant: I have seen the movie!!!

Having both read the books and seen the movie, I will now concede that the franchise succeeds in each and every one of its objectives. For what it's worth. And to Suzanne Collins, it is worth a great deal, indeed. I doubt she is spending a single moment soul searching over the tragedy that the books will not earn a literary prize.

You have come up with several terrific ideas. I'm just afraid that the limitations of the software here on the site, come to issue. I think another thing we have to consider is that not everyone is going to vote on each story. You can put the option in, but it's been proven no one reads every story and therefore will not vote on something they never even clicked on.

I also question how you could keep that many stories at the top of the page, without making them a sticky. I'm pretty sure Lemark will have an issue with that. I am reviewing people's thoughts on this thread, as well as the many pm's I received.

I think another thing we have to consider is that not everyone is going to vote on each story. You can put the option in, but it's been proven no one reads every story and therefore will not vote on something they never even clicked on.

True but that's not any different then what we have now. Not all voters read all the stories but still vote for their "favorite." With my proposal at least we'll know how many people are reading the stories and how many are just recruits that are only voting for the one story they have been asked to vote for. It will also give writers with low readership some input about the appeal of their story.

I also question how you could keep that many stories at the top of the page, without making them a sticky.

We only need one sticky, the thread that has the list of the entries. Each story will have a link so readers will be able to find the stories with just a click. Those that want their stories on top of the forum can bump then up.

I am reviewing people's thoughts on this thread, as well as the many pm's I received.

For various (not unpleasant) reasons I've been away from the forum for a week or so, therefore I've missed out on this thread.

I haven't had the opportunity yet to read through all 237 previous posts, but a cursory glance has made my head hurt, there seems to have been a pointless battle amongst a number of writers, of which several of whom in my opinion rank with the best authors on this site.

Leaving the inevitable in-fighting to one side, I would like to repond to Ejls' original Opening Post.

As a previous CAW winner and frequent competitor, right back to the very first compy a few years ago, I think it's a shame that we need a draconian set of rules, as the original intent of the CAW was simply to give us all a challenge as a bit of fun, an interesting exercise.
It was one which brought out a wealth of stories spanning as wide a gamut of plots and scenarios as one could imagine, and it was enjoyable and rewarding both for the authors and the readers.

Sadly, the fun element seems to be in danger of disappearing as the competition becomes more and more serious, with entrants and readers accusing each other of multiple entries/votes and various other shenanigans.

Whilst it's a pity that we need a set of rules at all, I think that the rules or guidelines as set out by Ejls are as good as we're going to get, and therefore I endorse them completely.

If the Final Rules have been settled then I think that ejls should post a sticky with them but first get an admin to agree to lock it so no posts can be placed in it after The Rules.
Oh and also make it a Top sticky that never moves.

It could be that the dark side of the Force took hold of her, and she's going to make the challenge something, well, frightening:

1. Each entry must be written in iambic pentameter.

Or

2. Each paragraph must be written in a different font, color, and size attribute than the previous one.

Or

3. The theme is Riverdance Bitches.

Or

4. The theme will be one's personal sexual history from first contact to present day. Virgins will submit a blank story.

Or

5. You have to write...your story...In one big wall of text...no punctuation except for...ellipsis...

I can think of plenty of nightmare scenarios. I probably won't sleep now until Tuesday when she posts.
