So, this is my first major story post here...obviously. lol

No ages have been added into the story, but all characters are assumed to be at least sixteen years of age.

I try to not include ages so the reader can make the most of the stories I write as they fill the small gaps with their preferences.

Part 1

Sitting at the kitchen table, Jacob looked through the papers in front of him. To say he was dismayed was an understatement. He was overwhelmed by the bleak outlook he was facing.

One pile of papers was bills from the area's medical system, another was from credit bureaus.

Jacob had been a hard working man up to a year ago. He had to take time off from to care for his wife after a drunk driver slammed into the driver's side of her car, leaving her with severe brain damage. He watched as her health steadily declined until one day she just didn't wake up.

Jacob was filled with mixed emotions when she died. Relief that she wasn't suffering any more and sorrow that the biggest part of his life was now gone. For the past three months, Jacob had felt empty and didn't go out anymore. His daughter had started to introduce him to other women, but he never felt that any of them could replace his late wife.

Little did Jacob know, but his daughter had been keeping a close eye on him as she introduced him to women who he would usually find attractive, secretly hoping that he would not find any interest in them.

Janica, stood quietly in the kitchen door watching her father as he cradled his head in his hands while resting his elbows on the table. She moved to stand behind her father and started to tenderly rub his shoulders.

"I hope so, sweetie. Things don't look good right now."

"I know, but they'll get better."

Jacob was a slightly shocked. In many ways, Janica was so much like her mother that for a moment, he thought that his wife had returned to comfort him.

It was the following weekend when Janica was washing the breakfast dishes that Jacob happened to enter the kitchen in a sleep filled daze. Part 2
