Default Welfare reform in New Zealand

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10812818

She said the changes could save the Government $1 billion.

yeah, she might have pulled that one billion estimate out of her big round flabby ass but doing this would still save money.

The bill would focus on 14,000 16 and 17-year-olds who were considered to not be in employment, education or training, 90 per cent of whom Minister Bennett said would go on a benefit by the time they are adults.

okay, so can someone do the mathematics?

this is all happening too late, and it could be still too little. what about asset testing welfare? if the new zealand government is serious about saving money then go all out and get really tough. no, they probably won't do that, because they would offend their voter base.

when i was in school, i dropped out. teachers there never gave a fuck. there were already rules in place back in 2002 that didn't allow me to just leave and stay home all day. i had to go to a course, but then i just left that as well and ended up at home anyway after about one or two months. the new zealand army had an opportunity there, but i was fucking twenty four before anyone from the welfare office bothered to make me aware of it, then i was just rejected anyway for health reasons but i did pass my physical.

i will be very surprised that if in the long run this government means business and we see results.

to derail things a little it's nice to see a NZ thread when ballers (rightly ) complaining about a deluge of US threads. Though the lack of replies is sad. Where's themis

Well as fucked up as the welfare system in NZ is, Something like this is actually a good idea for a change ( I'm guessing she had to have stolen it from someone with more braincells than her entire family put together ).

What really pisses me off is that the people that NEED support from the welfare system don't get it, while there are so many abusers out there that could actually make a differance to socitey if they only got off their fat lazy asses. \rant

In a way I'd love to end up in a job like hers, I'd make a shit load of enemies but I think it'd be worth it just to see the results.

this is just not true. it was thanks to helen clarks government that brought in the limited service volunteer training, but it was not compulsory. for me, i found out about this training with a year left before i was too old to not apply but i was on a sickness benefit at the time and that could be why i didn't get in, because the welfare office was concerned about my health.

oh yeah, the social welfare in this country is pretty quishy, really soft. the thing with the right wing is of new zealand, they never can seem to do anything right, i have thought this for a long time.

now the talk coming out of wellington is a card is going to be introduced and the money on these cards can only be spent on living expenses.
