99% of the time the title is harder to write then the story. I struggle a lot with what to call all my stories, but with this CAW entry I had the title before I began writing.

I really want to re-name my "Toy Store Boy" story because that was only a temp name for it until I came up with something better. But after a couple months of trying to find something else to call it, I can't think of anything I'm happy with.

I understand your problem with titles Elp but in the end I usually just go with what ever temp name I was calling a story. I know with me I try to find something catchy that also says something about the story. But I often fail at that task.

By the way Ejls, a man calling himself "You know who" called for you and said to meet him "You know where" and to bring the "You know what" He had a deep voice and told me not to ask questions...............

Ah I can see the story now as it unfolds before our beloved CAW 12 audience for all to see and feel and burn up with excitement...

The heat waves shimmered in the distance, inexorably rising off the sand in an unmerciful display of mother nature's authority. AHorseWithNoName was nowhere to be found. Off to the left, the oceans caressing waves could be heard, the crashing cresendo signaling the time of another passionate encounter preparing to go forth to the world at large....

It was the summer of '69. It was the summer of Ejls remembering the extra batteries as her beloved AHorseWithNoName is no where to be found.

I have two stories, both of which fit the theme. In fact, much earlier I sent CAW SOP both my renditions of the first two paragraphs for approval. (Funny thing, I got this odd whiff of horse shit when I opened those PM.)

Anyway, both are pretty much ready to submit, but I can only actually submit one -- the other has to be a non-entry.

A friend read both documents and liked them. One is a story about a romance between a young man and woman. The other is a coming-of-age romance (no inappropriate touching under 18, thank you very much).

Romance and emotion are the common theme in both tales. My friend said they were both kinda Hallmark-y, so I guess I'll go with the one with more sex.

My official CAW entry will be "Loni -- CAW #12". My non-entry will be entitled, "Healing."

My unfinished story is sadly still unfinished so I will be entering my first completed story.

Not entirely happy about it but such is life.

I will however continue to finish the other one off eventually. I'm thinking of making it longer, more details. Maybe even make break it into part, who knows. Once I start writing sometimes I cannot stop myself.

Finding a title for a story can be damn near impossible, but sometimes, creating a story to fit a great title is worse!

Can you use the main characters' names? One of them? "(Insert male protagonist's name) and (insert female protagonist's name) in the summer of '69" could work, maybe.

C'mon girl. You got this far.

Think of the theme -- the message, if there is one. A favorite line one of your characters says. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!" would have been a memorable title for that movie.

Dream on it. You still have a few days until the deadline.

My entry is called "The Wall" which is the title I had come up with from the very beginning before I had written any of my story.

I briefly thougt about calling it "Four Inches of Separation", but in the end I didn't feel that it was right and I stuck with my original idea.

Titles are so hard to not only think up sometimes but even harder to stick with when you start thinking to much.

Titles are always one of the hardest parts of writing for me. Take my CAW 11 entry, for instance. Somehow I managed to come up with "Shadows on the Street" as the title less than half a day before it was time to post the story. I even had to rewrite a couple of paragraphs just so the title would make sense.

It's a rare case that I'll come up with a great title immediately, but it does sometimes happen, such as "Shelter from the Cold" or "Backyard Princess" or my favorite title I've ever come up with, "On a Moonlit Night, Wishes May Come True".

Sometimes I'll even come up with the title first and write the story around that, such as "A Perfect Match" or "Not a Baby Anymore" or "The Worst Day Ever?"

But most often, I'll worry and fret over it for a long time until I finally just give up and decide on something boring but accurate ("Allison and the Primdales" or "Injured Cousin").

So for those who can't think of a title for your entry, the best advice I can give is not to worry too much about it. We've all been there, so we won't judge you too harshly. Besides, a good story more than makes up for a crappy title.

So I finally stoped editing and re-wording my story and posted it. I feel like George Lucus once said about making movies, "There never done but at some point you just give up".

That's kind of how I feel, I'm so critical of my own work that I'm never happy with it 100% and at some point I just give up and post it to take my chances with it.

Good luck to everyone out there who wrote an entry, as far as I'm concerned if you were brave enought to put yourself out there then you've already one on some level.

Usually, we get some really great entries for our little celebrations of creativity in smut. It seems like we've gotten an overall higher quality of story lately.

By this point in my reading, I would have expected to have come across a story to possibly eliminate from my "short list."

As of this moment my PC is a paperweight and I am using my son's laptop to write this. My son-in-law (to be) is a computer geek and he says the drive is good but a partition has gone bad so the drive won't boot WindowsXP. He is running a test - which will take hours - and he says that he thinks that he can repair the drive or replace it and (he thinks) all the info on my drive is still there and recoverable. Needless to say, I'm a basket case and had to take a major chill pill to calm myself down. I will try to post my entry (which I would have been doing right now) as soon as I can.

Man that sucks. ELP! Good luck with recovering your work. I'm so paranoid I keep two back ups of all my stuff. My advice would be to buy a portable thumb drive and keep it in a safe place. Again I truly hope you get your work back. I've lost years of work due to a computer glitch including my journal so I understand. I about lost my mind when it happened to me.

The info should still be on the hard drive, physically. The OS not booting properly doesn't necessarily mean that you've lost your work. It just makes retrieving it a difficult process.

I hope you get it all sorted, ELP.

On a side note, I've lost many stories due to a thumb drive snapping off in the USB port including a few CAW entries. I feel your pain.

Thanks, Jack (and everyone). The good news (as of this moment) is that everything is there and he is putting it all on a remote hard-drive to stay safe while he attempts to repair the internal drive. If worse comes to worse, he will have to replace the internal drive but will be able to put all of my stuff on it. Takes time. Should be done by evening.

Always back up your files. I do a weekly Dropbox transfer on Sunday nights. I've got a coworker who just lost half of what she's done this year, including a book in progress. ...which was actually a lucky break for me because it means I got double the space in the next issue, but still, awful news for her. Never trust a hard drive.

EJLS's Summer of Discontent is at 85.7% with sod all reads; it is, for my money, easily one of the best stories ever posted on this site and its basically no where.

WSF has been torpedoed by marcdoodle yet again and under the radar Clairbear leads the pack on 92.3.

Everything is nearly fine now. My future son-in-law got the 'puter to boot up and all the data was intact. He is going to replace the hard-drive another time. This was all caused by a virus that I must have downloaded with a free software program the other day. Watch out! These viruses CAN damage your computer hardware. The good news is that my entry is now posted. Thanks to all for your concern.

I decided today that I would write a story. I had debated whether to write one or not, and this morning I got up, saw that I pretty much had the whole day open, and decided that I would write it today, first draft, and whatever I could get done today would be it. Just for fun, a non-entry.
