I know some amazing writers who do twilight fanfiction. I've never read their twifanfic, but I have their harry potter fanfic. so I don't think it being based on twilight is in any way a reflection upon the story itself.

I agree. I read a few sample pages on Amazon and the writing is just SO BAD. It's funny, because Amazon gives it 3 stars. When you look at the actual ratings, it turns out that the vast majority give it 5 stars OR 1 star. Zero stars isn't an option So it's one of those love it or hate it books. But given the maturity level of the first book, I imagine that they get married, have 2 perfect children, cure world hunger, and live happily ever after while riding into the sunset, as the female character climaxes on her horse causing her to chew her bottom lip and blush fifty shades of crimson. Jeez! "

It's certainly not the first time a bad book has been a best seller, but it does show the limitations of self publishing. An editor at any decent publishing house would have left this thing bleeding in red ink. This isn't writing, it's typing.

I've only just got hold of a copy today to see what all the fuss is about.

After scanning through it, I must admit, even though it only cost me £3.50 in Tesco I think I've been over-charged.

Whilst it has some redeeming features, it's basically an "Upper-Sixth-Form" story, written in the first person.
The plot, such as it is, is hardly original - if you really want to read a story of a woman submitting herself to the wants and wiles of her lover then go get a copy of "The Story Of O" by Pauline Reage, written forty years ago.

There are a number of writers on XNXX who regularily produce better prose than that found in "50 Shades" - go have a look sometime.

Just call it good marketing. This book is probably the shits. Then a firm gets hired to find a way to jack up the hype. A youtube vid review here, a shocking quote there, some local station gets wind of it, tries to jack up ratings, then the storm begins. And now everyone is talking about the book, that was really not worth the paper it is printed on.

The only people I know who have read it are women, most of whom have said that it is poorly written. The main reason for its success, from what I can tell, is because it contains what most see as taboo sex. People like something different from time to time, and books such as this don't generally make it to the bestseller list; therefore everyone is buying it more for curiosity value than anything else.

I haven't read the book yet, but I did download it for my vacation. I don't know why anyone would read or review it with "this is a good book glasses on". This book is the epitome of 'bodice ripping' serial smut books. They are in essence a daytime soap opera that has a tortured male lead, a virginal female lead some half assed sex = 99% of romance novels.

The beauty of these books are they are easy to put down, you can read with half your brain still asleep or hung over....

I will be reading the book during my vacation in August. So I might come back and change my "review", but I doubt it.
