Why do they care what this woman's politics are? Yes it was a douche bag thing to say, but I don't see how her political views affect her performance.

Performance enhancing drugs.... What was that guy thinking, especially given that he had been caught before.

Although I don't understand how a diuretic that makes you pee a lot could be a help in the sport. It's banned and he should have known.

In 4 years will those people try competing again? (if they're allowed)

Less water weight thus making him run faster...although having to pee WHILE he's running would definitely be a big hindrance...

The drug in question is on the list of drugs outlawed by the Olympic committee.

It wasn't so much her politics as it goes against everything the Olympics stand for. It's a time to bring countries together in healthy competition, not to make remarks like that.

The North Korean women's football team walked off the pitch at their Olympic match in Glasgow after their images were shown on a screen beside a South Korean flag.


Kick-off was scheduled for 19:45 BST but the game started over an hour late.


North Korea beat Colombia 2-0 in the second of the Olympic matches held at Hampden Park on Wednesday.


Games organisers in London have apologised to North Korean officials for the mistake.


The error occurred when a video package was being shown ahead of kick-off, with the North Koreans noticing that their faces were being pictured alongside the South Korean flag.

They can also mask the use of steroids, which is why they are banned by sporting bodies.

You're quite right, though, the diuretic itself wouldn't be much help, unless you were trying to sneak into a lower weight category for something like weightlifting or judo - and even then the lack of strength from dehydration would make it a pointless exercise.

Just today one of the US alternate gymnasts injured herself in practice. The US team suggests she drops out even though she passed the med check up after her injury.

I don't recall so many athletes being removed for a multitude of issues prior to the opening ceremonies at any other Olympics.

And the issue with the Korean flag...huge error for the London organizers. ( possibly a subliminal political meassage. Ooooo. Lol)

Nine athletes were suspended yesterday for doping offences, just 48 hours before the launch of the London 2012 Olympic Games.


The suspensions mark an aggressive crackdown on drugs cheats by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).


Six of the competitors suspended were caught in "biological passport" tests, which measure changes in an athlete's blood profile, the IAAF confirmed. Another three were apprehended in re-tests of samples from last year's world championship.

I'll catch some of it but probably miss lots due to work.
The sneak previews and the leaked bits of info on it are making it look like one hell of an opening ceremony as well.

The Opening Ceremonies at the Olympics every four years is something to behold. With more than a billion viewers expected across the globe, you can bet London will be putting on a show.


The Opening Ceremony, titled "The Isles of Wonder", is set Friday night in London. With the time change being anywhere from five to eight hours deepening on where you live in the United States, most of the action televised in primetime will be tape-delayed. Those of you in Seattle and the surrounding areas will be eight hours back.


The ceremony will begin at 9 p.m. locally. That's 4 p.m. on the east coast, 1 p.m. in the bay and the rest of the west coast. NBC will begin airing everything at 7:30 p.m. EST/PST, so you'll have quite the wait if you're on the west coast. Check your local listings to ensure what time everything is set to begin in your area.


Seattle has many representatives at the 2012 Olympics, including Team USA soccer goalie Hope Solo, along with many others. Fans will remember basketball forward Kevin Durant spent time in Seattle before leaving for Oklahoma City.

A bit were characters from British childrens fiction (Capt Hook, Voldermott, etc) capture lots of kids, but dozens of Mary Poppins swoop down from the sky to save them.

The Olympic rings are made out of molten metal and are hoisted into the sky which relates to the industrial revolution.

The arrival of the Windrush boat from Jamaica is celebrated with steel drummers walking down the isles.

A bit that relates to the right to protest when the 1926 general strike is acted out.

£30m spent on just the opening ceremony.


Watch out for the rain cloud I've no idea how they've created that.

Kim Rhode can make history in London if she medals. No American athlete in any individual sport has won a medal in five-straight Olympics, but Rhode could change that. After becoming a regular on the podium in women’s double trap, Rhode transitioned to dominating skeet shooting due to the women’s double trap event being dropped following the 2004 Athens Games. She will compete in both women's skeet and women's trap in London.
