Trying to Get a New Game Started is Near-Impossible Here

Okay, I understand that some threads become popular and that folks like to play on them regularly. I do it myself. Of the thousands of threads on this forum alone maybe a dozen or soare regularly visited. Which begs the question:

Is it worth bothering to try and get a new game going?

My experience so far appears to suggest that 'no' is the appropriate answer as regular visitors to the forum tend to stick with the same old threads. How tiresome!

Most of the new games started are so similar to existing games it is pointless starting a new thread for them.
If you've got a game that is different to the hundreds already on here then give it a go. If it fades into obscurity what have you lost?

How "different" is "Alphabet Game" from "Start With The Next Letter Game" other than the title?

At best, 95% of the "new" games are repeats of games that WERE played here a year or two or three ago, but faded, newbies don't know there was such a game, so they start up the same thing (for instance, "Battle Of The Sexes", which started last month is a total repeat of a game that has been here twice already, but the last effort faded away about 18 or 20 months ago)

At this point, there have only been one or two games that I would say were in any way "new" in the last year.

I agree!

The problem is that the 'search' facility on the forums is (to be frank) fucking useless! I have no idea what criteria it uses but it ain't English! Consequently you DO get the same games cropping up time and again because nobody can be arsed to plow through reams and reams of threads!

Okay, so there's 'nothing new in the world': we all accpet that I guess. There are, though, variations on a theme and that is what crops up on the games forum. By the same token, games that by all rights should fade into obscurity keep going and going (look at the Let's All Count Down From One Million' thread!!!).

My thinking is that the games that require the least mental effort () are the games most likely to succeed. Word games are popular as are 'alphabet' games.

How about a 'I Wonder If We've Played This Game Before Game?' Thread where anybody can post the title of a game that might have been posted on XnXX at some time!

Anybody up for it?
