What format should i save my stories in to be able to cut and paste them in the story section on the forum. Every time I try it I lose my paragraphs and all spacing. Any help would be appreciated I have a few I would like to post. Thankyou

Try putting in more spaces between your paragraphs - otherwise add them in after. You can save without submitting for validation if it's a long job.

I posted a couple of stories on the forum and never found the secret. I think the problem with spaces between paragraphs is the main reason you will see so many stories posted in chapters. I even tried what we used to call a 'hard return' or control+enter between paragraphs and that still didn't work. If you find out the secret, I hope you share it with me.

I have Windows XP on my computer, so maybe it's different for different operating systems. But what I found is that when I write my stories on "Notepad", then all my paragraphs disappear when I cut and paste to xnxx.

But when I write my stories on "Microsoft Works Word Processor", then I have no problems.

I use Microsoft Word on Windows XP with no formatting but a hard-return between paragraphs. I have had no problems cutting and pasting and posting on either the stories side or in the forum stories.

A few times I have tried to connect to stories.xnxx.com and it never loads and I get a message that says the website's server will not respond.
I am on a Mac using safari. I have also tried firefox. This is a recent thing, a few weeks ago I was connecting just fine.
Any suggestions?

If you look in general discussion, there are dozens of threads telling you that a major server was sabotaged. It may be back up in a week, who knows.....

I posted two stories, had them validated, and they appeared in the searches. Now they are gone. What's up with that? Why would this happen?

The site is up, doesn't mean it's back to normal. There will probably be a few glitches yet. Some report a lot of reads are missing, and I have comments missing.

Haven't seen a new story posted since before the story site went down. I guess it will take some time for things to get back to normal.

In the next two or three days watch for every story currently on the front page to go off. Their 30 days will be up. Just about everything about it has been frozen in place since the site came back up. There have been no new votes allowed so no change in score. Comments show as do read counts.

I have not said anything before now because I had a story benefiting from the situation. I lost 100,000 reads because of the way the site came back up. Since then I have gained them back...but I wonder if I could have gotten them 'additionally' instead of 'instead'.

Anyway, let's see if the site stays stuck or not.

I think it is still broken - someone else told me they'd submitted a story - over 8 days ago now, as far as I know, they're still waiting for validation

I submitted one when it first came back up, and it was validated a couple days ago. Voting still doesn't work though and slashes are added to the text.

Before i start posting the next installment of The Girls From Saint Francis i really needed the first one on the storys site so i can have a link to it.
Otherwise any new readers wont understand whats going on with the characters.
I hope they fix it soon.

I don't think any stories that were lost will be restored. You're best off resubmitting it.

I submitted one right away when they came back up. Took 11 days to validate. I submitted another right after, and it's been over a week. I think they're just swamped between extra submissions and still trying to fix the rest of the bugs.

I have sent e-mails a couple of times with no reply so let me try here. Of all my stories posted, one came out in almost unreadable( or almost so ) format. All the rest came out good. I would like to remove then repost, hopefully in a easier read format, my story My Stepfather 2. If a mod sees this, I hope they can tell me how. Thanks in advance. the validation seems to have gone and has been replaced with published what i assume from this is that its immediately up and ready to read, but ive put 2 stoies on and they have come up published and have been read according to the number, but the publishing date is missing why is that?

I'm using Safari on a Mac.

Anyone know what the matter could be? Is it a site issue?

It happens - you will find that it goes through ok despite the error message. I submitted one a while back and all was well.

Thanks for the quick reply Cijababe, just one more thing - the last time I copy pasted a story it turned out really grisly on the site, with like question marks instead of hyphens, apostrophes, etc. Basically anything that was not a period or a comma; so that really uglied my story a lot.

I've worked much harder on this last one, so I was hoping to 'submit and continue editing' or at least see a preview of how it will look on the site. I'd be grateful if you have any suggestions for this. Alternatively, if anyone could suggest a different text editor to 'MS Word for Mac' which doesn't make my story look like an exploded minefield, it would be greatly appreciated

Again, only you will see the question marks. If you look at the story under your profile intead of 'your stories' it shold show up perfect.

Unless of course the actual approved story has the changes, apostrophes and such. Then that is a matter for LemarkxXx

Like Cija said, everything should be a-ok on your final story. I haven't had the problem, but it does seem to be happening quite frequently.

Sometimes I get a similar problem when I'm typing and all of the formatting comes up as symbols, but again when it's posted it shows up fine.

_____When A.P. returned as clarise, she made the decision to post here on the forum, instead of the storysite, for several reasons. One of the minor ones- yet a reason relevant to this topic- is the difference between font support in the two areas.
_____The books I am hosting here are heavy on diacriticals. Lots of Germanic, Norwegian, French, and Swedish names. This forum can handle just about any font that the Web can handle, in principle, because it processes fonts in UTF-8. One must experiment to some extent - in VBulletin's BBCode language, most HTML tags are not accessible, and one cannot download custom fonts. One is limited to the fonts that are supported by the server that is hosting the XNXX site. But within those constraints, there is amazing flexibility. This ü and this T are font characters, for instance. Folks, do not try that little trick on the story site!!!
_____The story site works differently. The story validation process is written in some old scripting language - my guess would be either PHP or PERL. It has some primitive built-in protections against embedded HTML. I suspect what it does is converts the text characters into short integers, and verifies that all the integers fall within the bounds of the classical ASCII range of printable "typewriter" characters. Anything above and below the range, it converts to question marks. If this is the case, the story site would allow everything from chr(32) (the space bar) to around 140 or so.
_____That is why Windows MS Word smart-quotes and curly apostrophes render as question marks. They are Unicode characters (that is, their encoding is much higher than the classical ASCII limit of 256 characters).
_____What does that mean for docs typed on a Mac? You're screwed, my friend. The Mac OS is Native Unicode. UTF-8 or higher. The only way to type safely on a Mac, for the XNXX Story Site, is to pretend you are limited to an antique Royal typewriter, fully equipped with a bell to signal the impending carriage return. If you must use a Mac, I would recommend that you try typing your stories in a code debugger like BBEdit. Program code almost always conforms, by default, to the ASCII character set, and therefore software like BBEdit will constrain you to the character set that scripts like the XNXX Story Site can safely render.
_____A raw text editor will also prevent you from trying to get fancy with things like paragraph indenting, which of course is impossible to achieve on XNXX, or for that matter, on any forum that runs on VBulletin.

_____P.S. I use MS Word 2003 on XP, and MS Word 2007 on Vista. When in doubt as to font compatibility, I use the HTML and script editors in Visual Studio 2008, and/or Dreamweaver. Those last two are programming environments, of course, but they offer the best control.
