Firstly, to all, Happy New Year! I hope that 2010 is a darn sight better than 09.

Well, what has happened to the story page? Seems all my stories have been regraded percentage wise, suddenly the average is probably only 70% and all the comments have had the names taken off and replaced by "Reader".

I suppose it serves me right for not being so regular a visitor any more. The pressure of work is the culprit with me the victim. I have so many stories half finished or sketched out and no time to complete them.

Anyway, I will try and be a little more regular here through next year.

I'd normally try and say something more intelligent than this, but who the fuck knows!
The voting and commenting are turned off, yet all of a sudden the stories have a rating! Impossible. Some random percent must have been plucked out of the server's ass.
There is a thread further down by the admin explaining a problem and the reason you can't vote or comment. One day there will be a big change and the site will be better. In the meantime, the admin makes not even one tiny speck of an effort to say what's happening. I hope he has been drunk and enjoying a wonderful Christmas and news years with friends and family.

Many thanks to DonB, DC and JAT for their literate, intelligent and gentle fostering of this thread. And several others, too numerous to mention.

It's great to find a thread where there is well written discussion and an almost total absence of vindictive and/or crass destructive comments. And to find so many super authors who had remained unnoticed by me through the vagaries of the rating system and the petty minded trolls.

Before the system crashed I did notice that admin was making some effort to control the trolls as they were not counting and later deleting some of the negative votes. Not enough to let the real cream rise to the top ( How could Kate not be in the top 10 of all time? ), but an effort.

2010 has started pessimistically as I cannot see the stories part of XNXX surviving. By Jan 11 all stories in 'Top Rated Last 30 Days' will have zero votes, zero comments and zero ratings. Enough to drive most readers and many authors away.

I've never been able to see how the owners of XNXX could make the stories part of the site pay its way. Maybe they've come to the same conclusion, because if the site was worth its while they would have fixed it by now.

No malice here. Three years' reading and writing has been a rewarding and fun time and many thanks to Lemark et al for the opportunity. Hope I'm wrong about the site surviving.

Oh MT, I hope you are wrong. I submit my stories here and on another site. I have to say, I appreciate the readers and their comments here. They have made me feel welcome, to a place that is very much male dominated. I don't write stories like the rest of you, and there I times I wish I could. And in spite of my fluff, most of my comments come from men.

Owners - please see the you have a talented bunch of writers here, that need the feedback from the readers. Many, myself included, found their way here by looking for stories, then registering as a member and finally, participating in other areas of the site. Don't let this become a thing of the past.

I believe people will submit more stories to the forum, should there be a lack of feedback and voting on the stories site. It will not kill off the writers by a long shot because this is a unique community of talented literary geniuses. And to boot, there are many more aspiring authors that we are nurturing with our own feedback and comments on the stories forum.

I remain unwavering in my opinion that all of the updates and changes will be implemented in one go, instead of shutting off the site two times for upgrades. This happened before about a year ago when the other part of the site had to be closed down for a couple days to improve the servers. And more recently for the August 1st upgrade. People will learn to cope with the wait, and more likely than not will be rewarded with an effective place to create and evolve, in each our own way.

I sincerely hope you are correct that the authors will be patient and stick around. There are so many wonderful authors posting on this site that would be sorely missed and I really hope they know that. I think with the posts on this thread and APs review thread; http://forum.xnxx.com/showthread.php?t=113778, I think most have seen comments that encourage them to stay and keep writing. I personally am keeping a list of the stories that have been posted post 12/10 that I need to rate/comment on and hope others are doing the same.

By the way, if anyone has not yet perused APs review thread, try it, you'll like it for sure. I also encourage everyone so moved to write a review or two of a story they particularly care for.

I think you are correct. I think the long time with no response from admin caused many to cut back on visits. I guess it will slowly pick up when people stop seeing the same stories every freaken time they open the story's site.

I agree with one or two of your favorite stories, but the others I can't locate. When you have enough posts under your belt (not to sound sexist or anything), it is best to post a link to the story or to the author. That way others can find them and perhaps be as enthralled as you.

There are a lot of us looking for good stories and we are very interested in your opinion - please share so we can partake.

Glad to see that you are in the heart of the 'proper use of english'. I've found that the most beautiful English language is spoken and written by the people of Scotland.

Although I started the review thread, I don't perceive it as "mine." I am glad that others have picked up the torch, and extremely grateful that all have honored the spirit of the thread by utilizing it almost exclusively for reviews. Thanks again.

Most likely I will not be adding reviews myself, at least for a few months. I am on the final stretch of my second book. It is an 850,000 word monster, and I am fighting like the dickens to finish it by late March/early April. Once the book is finished, I will take a hiatus before I start the third, and do some reading/reviewing.

I will most likely not be on this forum much between now and April, now that the finish line to Book Two: Beauty is finally in sight. Until I return, thanks to all who have made me feel welcome here.

A late, very late, recommendation. I have just recently, through no fault of my own, discovered an author whose stories are, in a word, enchanting. Well, maybe that is too much of a word, but the stories, even though I am just starting to read them, appear to be well worth the effort.

Honesty time! I've experienced a few very hot sex scenes, but could not write about them. Again, honesty time - I am a high school drop-out. My meager command of the language has been gained from reading, reading, reading, and, oh by the way, reading.

My imagination is basically a dead fish, but my appreciation for other peoples imagination is unexcelled. I am, however, moved by the comments of Mark and Ellen. Moved more than you can imagine - to the point of making a confession (my lack of education) that I have been trying to keep secret for decades.

You and I were lucky, my friend, to have a love of reading instilled in us at a fairly early age. You had your mother and I had myself. Reading has been my life and I'm hesitant about striking out in a different direction, but I will think about it. Love you anyway.

I might as well put in my two cents worth in this "Let's convince Don to write" thread.

Honestly, if you don't want to write, don't write. That's up to you. But if it's because you lack education or imagination, there are ways around that.

First, your lack of education means nothing. You obviously know how to put words together that both follow the technical rules and, more importantly, communicate what you want to say. That's really all they teach you in high school. Whatever you lack in education, you've made up for in reading and informal writing (forum posts and the like).

Second, assuming for a moment that you don't have a single creative idea in your head (which I don't believe, by the way), who says you have to come up with the ideas yourself? Ideas are cheap. If you're a person who wants to write but doesn't know what to write about, you're in a perfect position to team up with people with great ideas who have trouble writing them. You might start a thread asking for ideas for your first story. I can almost guarantee you'd get swarmed with ideas. I'd probably contribute five or six myself. Just make sure you mention the themes you like and dislike, or people will be too worried about whether you'll dismiss their ideas out of hand.

Third, if you're considering becoming an author, my advice is to just write a story. Don't worry about whether it will be any good, whether you'll become a famous author, or anything like that. Don't even worry about whether you'll upload it to the internet. Just write. The first story is the biggest hurdle; in fact, I would say that once you have that first story behind you, it's all downhill from there. You'll be shocked at how easy it is to write the second story, and the third, and the fourth. Although I had been writing for a long time, my first work of erotica took several years to finish, mainly because I was getting over my moral hangups. My second was about five times as long, but only took a couple of weeks to write. The difference? Once the first story was finished, I knew I could do it. I had just proven it.

Fourth, you might ask some of the other authors on this site if they would be interested in collaborating with you, to give you some experience. A little hand-holding might help you get over that first hurdle (the first story).

Again, it's up to you whether you want to write or not, but hopefully these points will help you make up your mind.

It's been my pleasure and misfortune to have been in sales for a few years. "I'll think about" it is the biggest cop out there is. Whoever says it means "NO" but they're too polite, or scared, to directly address the issue.

Think of a situation. At work, at home, on vacation, even in a movie or on TV.

Think of some people, particularly women. (Your male character will often be based on yourself or how you would like to imagine yourself.) The women may be women you have known well. Maybe even a wife (why have I broken out in a cold sweat and started to shiver?), they may be that pretty girl with the long legs and swirling skirt you saw across the street the other day, or again on TV or in a movie.

Your story will start by being based on these, then the characters will assume a life of their own. Just like your readers you will wonder what they'll do or say next. They'll take over.

Then add some of your own sex experiences. Maybe add to them a bit, but PLEASE don't add 20 inches to your cock.

Then rewrite, rewrite, proofread and proofread (far better than me).

Mix these in with your obvious love of language, your obvious love of story telling, your obvious romantic and sentimentality, and your obvious love of fucking.
