How common is inter-sibling incest?

How common is inter-sibling incest in today's society? Since sex is no longer practised for procreation but more for recreation and mutual physical enjoyment, what is your opinion regarding consensual sex between siblings, with the understanding that effective contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies are used, and that it is done in privacy?
Interesting enough incest has been delegalized in France by Napoleon 200 years ago. Likewise, it is not illegal in the Netherlands (although some intra-family sex with minors is punishable by law). In many countries sex between first cousins is likewise quite accepted (mostly in countries where Anglo-Saxon law applies).
Incest was not always illegal. In the UK it had once been an offence punishable only by the ecclesiastical courts. But the authority of these courts had been greatly weakened at the time of the Reformation, and was more or less abolished after 1641. For very nearly the next 270 years, incestuous unions remained subject to various legal and customary disadvantages, but were not against the law until the Punishment of Incest Act was passed in 1908, which criminalised such behaviour between consenting adults for the first time - a mere century ago! The Act was fiercely opposed and was finally only accepted by a narrow margin after inter-cousin marriages (and thus inter-cousin sex) was legalised.

I don't support it at all. But theoretically if both participants are at the age of consent and both agree to use adequate contraception and protection, I really am not bothered by it. I still would view it as a criminal act equal to rape solely based on the genetic relation part. That's just my opinion

That is something i dont agree with but that is their culture and who are we to tell them they are wrong? its a thin line to walk. but if a brother and sister want to do the freaky...who are we to say no?

I love the spineless positions people take on things like this, "it's not my culture so who am I to judge or dictate" and just completely toss morals out the window on account of culture. I never pondered the family aspect. I do engage in other sexual play considered taboo but never considered either of my attractive sisters as an object of desire. Well here in college we had this one well known case; some guy fucked his brother at some party, but only because they were both drunk. I even met the guy and he laughed it off; no hard feelings. Week later and no-one really cares; there are far more things in this world to worry about than some siblings fucking each other.

You're really asking two questions. How common is it, and how socially acceptable should it be?

I'll answer both.

First, how socially acceptable should it be?

I'm opposed to incest in real life, although it's one of my favorite fantasies. I've written a number of erotic stories about it, some of which I've uploaded here in the Sex Stories section.

Truthfully, I couldn't give you a single logical argument as to why incest should be illegal, especially between siblings. Sure, incest is often associated with other criminal behavior, like child abuse, but in and of itself I can't think of any reason to condemn it. I just do.

I guess I'm just an extreme conservative when it comes to real life, but in fantasy, anything goes. Does that make me a hypocrite? Maybe.

To answer your question about how common it is, let me put it this way.

Take two people, a male and a female. Make them adolescents. Make them live together in the same house. Let them see each other in their pajamas (and possibly even less on occasion). Tell them they're supposed to love each other. What's the result?

The answer is, of course, sex.

Unless they're brother and sister, in which case nothing happens. No sir. This is a respectable family. How dare you even suggest such a thing!

My guess is it's not particularly common, but it's still more common than anyone wants to admit. Probably a lot of kids experiment with their siblings in their early adolescent years. I don't say this from experience; unless I have some repressed memories lurking somewhere in the back of my mind, nothing like that ever happened to me. But I'm not naive enough to think that it doesn't happen to other people.
