Thanks for the link. I never saw the movie Porgy and Bess. I am familiar with music. I would like to see the movie some time.

I was pleasantly surprised that there are others here that love this kind of music as well.

I've Got Rhythm
Ramsey Lewis and Billy Taylor Piano Duet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64u6rKxayCU&feature=fvst

This song utilized jazz music's most common chord change sequence, ii-V7-I.
The bebop players like Charlie Parker Charlie Parker loved to improvise over these chord changes.

Go ahead and post away if you feel that someone is not being done justice. I am posting recordings of jazz standards. Most anyone can be found on youtube now.

Killer Joe

Benny Golson's biggest hit ever. His wife didn't like the song at first. But, it was Benny's biggest hit, it became a jazz standard, and the Golson's are still collecting royalties on the song today after all these years. Now she likes the song.

The Nearness of You
performed by Norah Jones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eIH-7qq-WA

It's refreshing to to hear an old jazz standard redone by this artist. Norah is the daughter of the great sitar player Ravi Shankar.

Paul Gonsalves/Duke Ellington

Gonsalves' playing sent shivers thru' my scalp and down my spine....unfortunately the only time I saw him live, he was so pissed two other sax players wedged him up against the grand piano and stood either side to stop him falling over...he didn't play well that night !!!

That was a long solo, but, he never got boring. He kept coming up with new ideas as he played.

Isn't Gonsalves the sax player that recorded a live 30 minute long solo in 1958 with Duke Ellington at the Newport jazz festival? I have a recording of that somewhere...

Because 1) I am not connected to YouTube, 2) my computer is MUCH to slow to try to play music on it AND do anything on the internet (it constantly stops to 'load') and 3) I OWN it all and play what I want on my stereo constantly

That makes sense.

I own alot of jazz LPs and CDs, but, I still check out youtube for videos. Also, it allows me to share the music with others as well.
