With Roy Eldridge on horn too! Freddie Green's impeccable rhythm guitar playing is very audible on this recording.

Umpire,

I don't think I've heard that particular Coltrane record before. Is Ole a latin themed record, or what? At first I thought you said Oleo... as in Rollin's tune by that name.

Right now I am listening to a relativelt obscure gem, "The Rajah" LP by Lee Morgan.......

Whitey: Re: "Ole" (John Coltrane)---kind of 'inside out', I don't think this session was released until the later 1960s, but it was recorded in one session on May 25, 1961 in NYC, during Coltrane's tenure with Atlantic.

Three tracks, 'Ole', 'Dahomey Dance' and McCoy Tynr's 'Aisha'. Not really 'Latin-flavored'----I'm not sure where JC came up with the title...

Line-up is a dandy: JC, soprano and tenor saxes; ERIC DOLPHY, flute and alto; Freddie Hubbard, trumpet; Tyner on piano; 'Ole' and 'Dahomey Dance' use a double-bass arrangement with Art Davis and Reggie Workman; and Elvin Jones on drums.

Someday My Prince Will Come
Bill Evans Trio (1965)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57HnHX-BlRg

"Some Day My Prince Will Come" is a popular song from Walt Disney's 1937 animated movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was written by Larry Morey (lyrics) & Frank Churchill (music), and performed by Adriana Caselotti (Snow White's voice in the movie).

In 1957, the jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, inspired by an anthology of Disney tunes owned by his child, included a version of the song on the album Dave Digs Disney.

The song quickly became popular amongst jazz musicians, who considered its chord sequence to be particularly satisfying. Later versions were recorded by Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, and many times by Herbie Hancock, who would use it as the basis for a virtuoso showpiece display.

Nature Boy
Nat King Cole Trio
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq0XJCJ1Srw

"Nature Boy" is a song by eden ahbez, published in 1947. The song tells a fantasy of a "strange enchanted boy... who wandered very far" only to learn that "the greatest thing... was just to love and be loved in return". Nat Cole's 1948 recording of the song was a major hit, and "Nature Boy" has since become a pop and jazz standard, with dozens of major artists interpreting the song.

Moonlight in Vermont
Johnny Smith
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xf3rAXoYjA

This song was originally written by John Blackburn and Karl Suessforf in 1943. Guitarist Johnny Smith recorded this very popular instrumental with Stan Getz on saxophone which was on the B side of a single in '52. Its lush, gorgeous, laid back groove made it an immediate radio hit and it was voted Jazz Record Of The Year by Downbeat.

Long Ago and Far Away
Jo Stafford
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acoZcrCpdrM

"Long Ago (and Far Away)" is a popular song from the 1944 Technicolor film musical Cover Girl starring Rita Hayworth and Gene Kelly and released by Columbia Pictures. The music was written by Jerome Kern, and the lyrics were written by Ira Gershwin. The song was published in 1944 and sold over 600,000 copies in sheet music in a year.[1]
In the film it is sung by Gene Kelly to Rita Hayworth. Charting versions were recorded almost simultaneously by Dick Haymes and Helen Forrest, Bing Crosby, Jo Stafford, and Perry Como.
The Dick Haymes-Helen Forrest recording was released by Decca Records as catalog number 23317. The record first reached the Billboard magazine charts on April 27, 1944 and lasted 11 weeks on the chart, peaking at #2. [2]
The Bing Crosby recording was released by Decca Records as catalog number 18608. The record first reached the Billboard magazine charts on June 29, 1944 and lasted four weeks on the chart, peaking at #5.[2] The flip side, "Amor," also charted, making this a two-sided hit.
The Jo Stafford recording was released by Capitol Records as catalog number 153. The record first reached the Billboard magazine charts on May 4, 1944 and lasted 12 weeks on the chart, peaking at #6.[2]
The Perry Como recording was released by RCA Victor Records as catalog number 20-1569. The record first reached the Billboard magazine charts on May 11, 1944 and lasted three weeks on the chart, peaking at #8.[2]

Airto Moreira is a Brazilian percussionist; played with quite a number of people, including Chick Corea in the original 'Return To Forever', Santana, Joe Farrell etc.

He usually teams with his wife, vocalist Flora Purim, but he has approximately 20 albums on his own...
