two footed challenges are now not allowed regardless of ball seeking, there are times when this is not actually any more harmful to an opponent than any other 'hard' tackle. tackling from behind is so grey its unusable as an option. this is highly irregular. simply winning the ball and force of tackle sending opponent flying often results in being penalised due to the writhing on the ground player when there is nothing wrong with the tackle. its all wrong and its all detracting from the skill of the game as much as other things would. evading tackles is as much of a skill as making winning challenges is.

the ref doesnt need to switch and start supporting the challenger as that would be wrong too. but they do need to disregard fallen players that are not in need of medical attention.

back in the day of hard fought games there were not players dropping like flies left right and centre because of hard tackles. what we had was a common understanding that if you wanted to be successful you dealt with these tackles and you got back up and tried again. its only the modern day that has bred a belief that most of these tackles are either life threatening or that every challenge made against you is another chance to cheat the more and more easily taken in referee.

its all a load of crap. actual simulation should be dealt with harshly and victims of a good hard challenge should be left to recover as quickly as they can off the field of play while play continues. football is not a saturday afternoon tea party
