Getting to grips with the gymstick

        The trainer hands us me Gymstick. I|m not quite sure what I’m supposed to do with it. The Gymstick is an exercise tool that comes from Finland.

      There are five different colour-graded types to choose from depending on your fitness. Today I’m using black.
   

 

Like every workout, working with the Gymstick starts in the head

 

We then move to the floor. I sit on the stick. I feel like a puppet on a string. Or a clown.

 

“Using a Gymstick always feels a bit odd at first because a lot of traditional exercise doesn’t challenge more than one muscle group at a time. At the moment your core muscles are working hard to keep you balanced and your leg muscles are working against the stick between your legs.“

 

I am amazed at how much harder I’m working because of the resistance it provides.
