Affair – noun

* affairs, matters of commercial or public interest or concern; the transactions of public or private business or finance: affairs of state; Before taking such a long trip you should put all your affairs in order.
* an event or a performance; a particular action, operation, or proceeding: When did this affair happen?
* thing; matter (applied to anything made or existing, usually with a descriptive or qualifying term): Our new computer is an amazing affair.
* a private or personal concern; a special function, business, or duty: That's none of your affair.
* an intense amorous relationship, usually of short duration.
* an event or happening that occasions or arouses notoriety, dispute, and often public scandal; incident: the Congressional bribery affair.
* a party, social gathering, or other organized festive occasion: The awards ceremony is the biggest affair on the school calendar.
Your challenge was to write about an affair that was remembered. Perhaps it’s one that is thought of fondly. Perhaps it’s one remembered with fear or sadness. Perhaps it is an affair that was kept buried for years, but a chance experience floods your main character with memories.

The rules were simple. All entries will be anonymous. You may enter one solo entry, but if you wish to write a second, you must utilize a partner. Entries will be submitted June 20 and 21.

I beg you to not judge the formatting and spacing too severely. When transferring the stories from author to me to the site, everything went to bloody hell. Only one story did not have issues. I’ve done my best to go through each story, but if you find errors, please contact me a the ejls account.

 

Formatting was one thing I was worried about, sending the story via email. A PM might work better as its using the same formatting engine as the posts.

When hornypixy and I co-hosted a CAW many moons ago, we had problems with the formatting on a few stories. Entries submitted as embedded text in emails gave us more trouble than those sent as attached Word documents, but we had random issues with several stories. With the new xenForo forum platform, every time I post one of my Word documents I have paragraph spacing issues. Normally I'll hit the "enter" key twice at the end of a paragraph to add a line space for clarity. When I post, the thing has anything from zero to three line spaces at random points in the story. Why? Who knows?

I appreciate the effort ejls put into creating the Calling All Writers Challenge series in the first place and running it a number of times. This CAW inspired sixteen different people to write and submit an entry. (So much for the concern ejls had earlier that her theme wasn't good enough!) Thanks to her for inspiring another round of creative stories.

 

Well, I have read a few and DAMN!

I have a long reading list of very long stories still to read.

But we have an excellent competitors this time.

This is the worst part where you now have to read all the comments and find out that yes, everyone has picked up on the mistakes you made.

 

Or, you turn it around and consider it the best part, where you realize that you're not perfect, that you cannot expect perfection, but rather that your acknowledgement of non-perfection is simply you showing maturity. You mentally correct the mistakes, and vow to never make them again. And then the next time you write, you never make them again...well, nobody's perfect...so you make less of them again!

Seriously...always look to glean something positive from comments. If there's nothing positive given, move on to the next. Bottom line is that each time you write, you grow. Write, edit, write, edit...................rest assured, if you're writing for the CAW, you're one of the better writers at this website. It takes balls, figuratively speaking, of course, to enter a competition like this. Give yourself a pat on the back, ok?

 

(LOOKS between legs day-um) ok I got'em, this is my third CAW, believe it or not I like to write in them, and though some think I write at the drop of a hat it isn't always easy. True I have over 80 stories but as someone once told me the more you write the better you get I think everyone is going to be surprised which one is mine. (looks between legs again) Balls? I LOVE to write, to me it isn't that hard to write for everyone, I consider it a pleasure to let others experience my strange mind LOL.

 

Haven't had time to do more than browse titles, but looking forward to reading.

Wasn't there a man named 'Job' in the bible? In my language, if you wanted to ask where he is, or how he's doing, you'd say, "Where are you, Jobe?" Admittedly, it wouldn't work in the sentence he wrote, but maybe he misspelled it? If so, I can understand what he means - he's saying Job is great, to ejls.

From that, I think, we can conclude he's religious, and perhaps an admirer of Job.

I shouldn't have used a word so complicated.

Jobe is a very old word. Comes from an ancient, nomadic, Asian, band of storytellers... The Bool Shi Teres. Their language... Bool shite is almost forgotten now. Only a few can even translate it. Pronounced Joo-bee, it was a large gathering, or affair if you will. I thought it was fitting to use.




Either that, or this big dumb guy has fingers way too large to text on a phone with!!!

 

That language is still used by political speech writers.

Well, down four, twelve to go! Anyhow, since I wasn't around when the last CAW finished, I just want to say congratulations on winning it, ejls! And so far from what I can tell, you're doing a good job here, unsurprisingly if I may add.

There are some very well-written stories in this CAW. I could say we have both quality and quantity present here in the number of entries - a splendid affair.
