Reading time is to be determined. I need some help with this. With 17 stories, and some of them quite long, how much time do we need to have? Typically there is usually 2 weeks of reading, with an additional week to vote. Is this enough time for everyone? I could add an extra week if feedback shows it is needed, but I hate to think anyone thinks I am trying to drag it out longer than necessary.

 

You the host, don't worry about what the rabble say. Read 3 already so I think that's enough time but do what you think best.

 

Until the length of time is determined, here are some other tid-bits of information.

You should try and read every story:

This is a peer voted competition. Without being familiar with all of the entries, it is unfair to judge them all on limited reading. There is no way to confirm this, and I am not going to put a mandatory "LIKE" or "COMMENT" on every story. We are all adults. We should have learned long ago how to play fair.

You should be trying to pick out your top THREE favorites:

The criteria is completely up to you. The three you enjoyed most. The three you thought were written best. The three that you feel fit the theme closest. In ideal situations, it should be a combination of all three, but it is up to the voter what the determination in "BEST" entry means.

You should try and comment:

This is by no means mandatory. However, writers like to be recognized for their work. The comments can be a short note that you read it, to a full blown critique of their work. As I stated previously, we are all adults. Try to keep the comments civil. Constructive criticism is one thing, but try to keep the flaming down.

About 2 weeks sounds fine, since those who don't manage they can use the voting days to read as well. But it's up to you, of course. 17 entries is more than excellent!

And @Hush, why are you withdrawing, if I may ask?

 

I can hardly wait to get to reading. Looks like a good turn out.

Why couldn't these have come out while I was in the hospital and bored out of my skull?

 

Because --

1. You were sick as a dog.
2. You were too looped on painkillers to read anyway.
3. You should have demanded a sponge bath from a hot nurse to keep you from being so bored.
4. Fucking Riverdance Bitches.

And maybe most importantly, if they had been posted while you were cooped up, yours wouldn't be in the collection.

It is great to see read numbers going up, and comments being posted! In some ways it is more exciting being on this end of things.

I forgot to mention one thing.

Maybe I'm being dense, but was the length of the reading period decided?

 

Yep. It ended 10 minutes ago. Bummer for you, Rip Van Winkle! hehehe

 

I have been hoping to get some feedback on the matter. So far I haven't received much, so here is my "official" response.


Reading time will be 2 weeks. There will be an additional week of voting so that anyone who needs time to finish reading may do so.

It will be my prerogative to extend this by up to a week if it is made clear to me that people need a little extra time.

 

So, essentially three weeks to read and decide. That's plenty of time to read. Judging by what I've seen so far, it may be difficult to decide no matter how much time you give us.

Since you're asking for feedback, I'll say it sounds right to me.

 

Fun time begins again for me. Thanks to all that contributed and good luck to everyone.

 

It's not us fast readers (and writers) fault that some of you grammer Nazis have to read each entry 4 times to slash them to pieces grow a set and just enjoy the stories!

XD What I mostly pointed out (so far), is some of the stuff that plagues my own story as well (regarding the spelling/grammar and such). It doesn't ruin the story in any way, to me, but it's merely a note for the author in case they want to make it better. I'm going through my story right now and there's so much that needs editing.

 

It was pointed out that it might be fun to do a "guess the author" game. Yes it would be.

I had planned on mentioning this with the voting rules. I think personally that this should wait until after the votes have been cast. There will be time after the voting is done but before I have announced the winner that you could use to make your predictions. There is however no "Rule" that says you have to wait. I feel that keeping the anonymity until the end is the most fair for all.

 

I sure hope that everyone is enjoying the great stories.
