Why are the stories by Eljs, WSF, Jayney and HP in the poll?

Did they decide to rejoin the contest via PM? If someone votes for one of these stories, that persons vote is essentially "void" since you can only cast one vote. Or are we going to potentially need two rounds of voting. The first round, started here, and a second round for those people who have to re-cast a vote for a participating author?

Did last nights goings on mean nothing? I can't believe that you would ignore people's wishes and include their stories. Very poorly played.

Let this serve as official notice. I am withdrawing my entry to the CAW SS - Cabin in the Woods. I will not take part in this or have anything to do with CAW 17. ELP, you've gone too far. And if you expect to be given the CAW SOP password, you are sadly mistaken. Your little entry to this challenge was a shit-starting slap in the face to a fellow member. By my calculations your now 22 entry SS is back to 21.

Good-bye ELP. Have fun with your little poll and the next official CAW challenge.

 

Out of respect for those writers who requested that their stories be withdrawn, and because ELP did not have the decency to honor those requests, I will not be voting for them.

Yet, your entry is not listed. How is it that you hold others to one standard (no provisions for withdrawal) but you do not hold yourself to that same standard?

Because the entry I wrote, honestly meaning no harm and intended in fun, started yet another storm. It was also pointed out that (as host) I should have no entry. Best of luck on yours.

I would also like to say something and I hope this is in the appropriate place.

The CAW is a great idea. We need to see it continue on until at least CAW 1000.

I think the problem is that many members of the forum have picked up the idea that the CAWs are a political way for the best writers to slap themselves on the back and tell themselves great job. I am not pointing fingers or blaming anyone, I am simply pointing out what I see.

We need to combat this perception, and I think I know a way to do it. Feel free to tell me I am an idiot and I don't know what I am doing or saying.

Here we go...

Step 1.) We need to formalize the voting procedure for the CAWs, no more we do it this way this time and another way next time.

Step 2.) We need to formalize anon vs known writing. Both have problems we need to decide which causes the fewest problems.

Step 3.) Since the two co-hosts for our next CAW are currently at odds. I would suggest that both step back and let either the winner of the CAW SS host solo, or a volunteer host it.

Step 4.) The KAW continues so that newer writers have a chance to play without being unintentionally intimidated by the writers that have won CAWs. Let's face it, little Joe/Jane Doe comes along and sees a contest. They have dabbled in writing and think about trying their hand at the CAW. Then they go and read some of the past stories and see these phenomenal works of art. The first thing they are going to think is they cannot compete with these people. Right or wrong, it will be their first thought. We need to encourage these writers to participate. If a KAW that past winners cannot compete does this, then I will support it in every way.

Step 5.) We all sit back and write, solo or in groups, and we all get to enjoy the reading.

Step 6.) Naked Oiled Twister at my house.

 

I had previously sent a PM to the host of this challenge informing him of my inetention to withdraw from it, and I have also previously posted publicly that I wish to withdraw.

It is nonsense to say that there is no provision to withdraw, the inclusion of my entry is a scurrilous deception.

I EXPRESSLY FORBID THE USE OF MY STORY IN THIS COMPETITION.

I am attempting to discover if its use contravenes Section 512(c) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If so there is a legal precedent for its removal.

On the part of the KAW's for newer authors who are intimidated by the regular CAW, you are onto something (my opinion). Let's see how the first, and maybe the second one goes to see how many participate and if it catches on.

Personally, I think it will, if we give it enough time and iron out any problems that arise.

One of the true gems of the CAW's has been that as any problems come up, they are discussed and ideas considered and often hammered out by the time the next one rolls around.

Right now as the KAW #1 has yet to begin the reading phase, lets see how that one goes.

 

I will not be the host of CAW 17. I spent my hosting duties here on CAW SS. The winner of CAW SS will host CAW 17 with ejls. I am finished after this competition concludes.

That was rather odd of you. All that means is that people can't follow the links to easily read them. They're still there. I was just hoping that cooler heads would prevail. I was (as usual) wrong AGAIN.

As one of the newbs and totally unknown (in my own eyes) I think the KAW is a great concept. I did talk with Ejls when the first CAWs came around, but that was like 3 years ago, I have read quite a few of the CAW writers' work and I feel very inadequate in every way, but the feedback from those same writers have shown me that I am not as bad as I thought to be.
