Our constitution is an amazing document largely built upon the Federalist papers which are generally considered to be among the best works of political philosophy ever written .

Not by a bunch of people self promoting so that they could protect their slaveholding interests and other petty interests

 

What is "cruel and unusual punishment?" What are "excessive fines?" Where does the United States Constitution give the Supreme Court the power to overturn popular legislation? Where does the Constitution even specify the number of Supreme Court justices?

The question you end your comment with could have been asked of those who participated in the American Revolution.

By the way, I regret the American Revolution. By every criteria I care about other than climate, I think Canada is a better country than the U.S. The only reason I stay here is that I would not move to another country unless I had a job waiting for me.

I'm confused by DL s behavior. If he doesn't get his way he's just taking his football and moving to Canada if only he could .

But by the prime minister's own words he can .

I guess this is why I don't like liberals but he also believes in the racial supremacy of whites particularly Ashkenazi Jews who he claims to be the race best prepared to rule the world.

George Washington had no sons to inherit his crown, if he had one. What he did have was Mount Vernon to retire to. After eight years as president he decided that he had had enough stress, and that it was time to retire and let his slaves do the work.

I think Washington is overrated. As a general he lost more battles than he won. He left no great written works of political philosophy the way Thomas Jefferson did.

I am as American as you are, not that I care. I am not a nationalist. Americans are allowed to have various opinions.

I have a tempered optimism about the direction the electorate is moving in. A growing percentage of the population prefers socialism to capitalism.

 

Being American is more than just being born in the U.S. or being a citizen of the U.S.
Being American is putting freedom above all else...
Like freedom to move to Canada or freedom to express your socialist beliefs...
Socialism doesn't work. And socialists are not the majority in the U.S. otherwise socailist Bernie would have won.

 

Clinton moved to the center and worked with Newt Gingrich and the republicans...
They used a lot of newt's "Contract with America" plan.

Globalism was taking over and companies where leaving the USA....
the great Chin/American deal was in full force and we built china off the back of our middle class looking for cheaper goods..

he also allowed an open border and the lower end worker got forced out....

when lower end workers are replaced by those not want more, wadges do not go up--all the way up the latter...

 

I know that a lot of people don't like Bill Clinton but I think that the George Herbert Walker Bush/Clinton era was in amazing. Time of economic growth .
And yes the 94 elections forced Bill Clinton to make a choice between his own political career and the agenda of the left and he chose his own career. And I think that helped the economy.

My biggest problem with Clinton was that he ran on the policy of being anti-China and completely abandoned it and really accelerated the growth of China .

Anytime300 claimed that the Constitution, which I do not pretend to respect, but will tolerate for now, made clear statements. When I asked questions that indicated otherwise, neither he nor NicoleDeLint answered me. Instead they give a version of the tired old taunt, "America, love it or leave it."

 

Cutting taxes for the rich is a misnomer as what is rarely if ever mentioned is that at the same time they are closing tax loopholes that the wealthy have used to their advantage forever so in essence that tax cut is offset by fewer deductions and tax shelters ...

I spent 10 years in court battling the government due to what they called tax avoidance and I called creative bookkeeping and they wrote the laws, I just used them to my advantage. They dug in for a number of reasons including my distaste for the government of the day at the time (Progressive Conservatives) AND their leader (Prime Minister) who I grew up with in the same neighborhood in Calgary and made his childhood a living hell some days lol.

They wanted 5 to 10 and got 6 months house arrest on a CD and a 100K fine for good measure and then in their infinite wisdom approached me to pen the revision to that section and subsections of the tax code since no one knew more about it then me since it was the bane of my existence for that 10 years, and they paid me to do it. That loophole was welded shut due to that court battle and it worked out for me but there were some downright pissed off people that got trapped inside it as it was sealed lol. That revision carries my name and damn straight I am pretty fucking proud of myself for that and who says you can't take on big brother. Same thing with the American government that wanted to revoke my US citizenship but only stood a chance if I was convicted on the felony but plead down to a summary conviction that has since gone away and is not on my record. I surrendered my US passport for that 6 months, like I was going anywhere in the first place !!! Even when you win you lose lol.

The point is you can make a difference if it means enough to you ... was it worth making lawyers rich, damn straight. I did a bit on a stretch until a higher court reversed the conviction on a non related issue and I could hold my own in "minimum security" lol but that would get old after a month ...
