American liberals will feel comfortable in any affluent democracy. Issues we agitate for, like universal health care and effective gun control, are settled issues in more civilized countries.

American conservatives have nowhere else to go, because American conservatism is unique.

On important issues the consensus is shifting to the left. Twenty years from now American conservatives will feel that the United States has moved away from them. They will want to move, but no other country will fit them; no other country will want them.

I do see this country moving towards socialism and as we moved that way things kept getting worse....
That is the main reason trump won.....so I feel the United Socialist States of America have been put on hold for the next 20 years.

I am definitely right of center on average but you were wise to see that there are issues that are more complicated for me .

 

It's interesting to watch these mental exercises debating what the United States is and should be.
At the moment the butt hurt elite liberals are still seeking a route to understand and explain how Trump got into office. It would seem their latest thought is to toss the constitution, or at least the parts that let Trump slip into the oval office, into the trash and substitute some form of socialist government. Or in the alternative, be annexed by Canada.

While the extremes the elite liberals are willing to go to is impressive and a bit shocking, the reality is, the Constitution and Bill of rights are the law of the land, and will remain so long after the elite arrogant liberals have moved onto some other outrage. That is, unless they manage to stir from their facebook and twitter outrage postings and actually stir up a revolution.

 

Distant lover,First of all, cruel and unusual punishments were very clear at the time the constitution was made, look at the average punishments made in during the time after the constitution however due to the fact that we have changed our punishment methods it has become muddle because we are using modern punishment techniques which did not exist back then.

So basically yes cruel and unusual punishment is clear however the modern average person's belief of it

We have a constitution and it's built on extremely solid principles probably better than any constitution in the world .

It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and I have given examples of what I disagree with but I also believe that it cannot be changed outside of the constitutional amendment process .

This is where I part ways with the liberals who say that the Constitution is a living document not intended to be taken literally .

And the problem with that is that if it does not mean to be taken literally what does it really mean .

If the Liberals have their way it will mean nothing and something that can be disposed of in their agenda

 

Cruel and unusual punishment to our founders met torture executions like drawing and quartering .

None of them had a problem with the capital punishment

Many might disagree with this but I think putting someone on death row for 10 or 20 years where they never know if they are going to be killed or not is another form of torture just mental which might be worse

I can't imagine that our founders would be OK with that .

If we are going to kill people for crimes I think that we have to be respectful of life itself.

Even if they tortured and murder their victims

It's a real question but Your response reminds me of how sensitive and defensive the left becomes when its faced with any type of criticism.

Lorne Michaels who runs Saturday night live once commented that he has noticed that when he lambastes the right the right tends to kind of laugh it off but the left tends to get very very defensive and angry.
