People are not voting for the person. They could put a box of rocks up there and say it was a box of a certain party. People would vote for the box of rocks..

Sanders would have also gotten some of the older white blue collar workers, and retired white blue collar workers who remember back to when the Democrat Party looked after the interests of white blue collar workers.

 

About the only other thing I think is worth responding to on this thread is how many Americans are so blinded by their own ethnocentrism and ignorant of their own history they will go around saying stupid shit like the US saved millions in World War II and basically won the war.

The war started in 1939. And right up until the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 the prevailing attitude was isolationism. In fact the only way FDR got re-elected was to just basically lie and say he had no intention of fighting another European war. He had to fight congress and public opinion to even get lend lease while the UK was fighting on multiple fronts and getting the shit bombed out of them on a daily basis. While at the same time the US was refusing to take in Jewish refugees and turned away the ship carrying Ann Frank and her family sending them to their deaths along with millions of others. And then finally by June 6, 1944 we hit the beaches at Normandy along with the British, Canadians, and other allies. And by that time the Soviet Union was also pushing Germany back to their borders and taking huge military losses.

So yes the US played a big part in turning the tide of the Nazis and did most of the fighting in the Pacific. But it was still only a part and then for a little more than 4 years. And lost almost nothing of our homeland and civilians.

 

I vote third-party's all the time .

It's not because I think that they can win it's more because they can receive matching funds if they reach a particular level of popularity And so their voices can be heard .

We have two parties presently but there have been parties in the United States that have ceased to exist . There once was no Republican Party and there once was a Whig party.

 

The Democratic Party can trace itself back to Thomas Jefferson back when it was called the democratic republican party . The Republican Party can probably find it's roots a decade or two before Lincoln .
But our first president was a federalist the party is gone now and so have a number of other parties before Lincoln . I don't think that the Republicans can continue to exist within the changing demographics of the country. I also don't think that any Republican outside of Donald Trump could have won the election but that was because he played outside of the rules and pissed off nearly as many Republicans as he did Democrats .

In the end I kind of expect that the democratic party will split between conservatives and liberals .

The only hope that the Republican Party has is to draw Hispanics into the ranks and that will never happen until the Republicans are open to almost unlimited Hispanic immigration. Hispanics tend to be extremely conservative On social issues . So if it were not for that one issue Hispanics are almost custom made for a Hispanic audience .
