You literally can't buy anything with them so what's the point ?

While were at it you can't buy anything with a nickel or a dime either so why not get rid of them .

This way things would cost for example $9.75 rather than $9.99 it's just a marketing play anyway

As usual we are way ahead of you there too. You dinosaurs need to get into the 21st century and one big reason you still use imperial standards is because of your mini gallon (3.8(ish)) liters. At least the hospitals are in this century. It costs 1.52 cents to make a penny.

I literally have a 55 gallon barrel full of pennies that I am too lazy to take into a scrap yard. Copper is pricey but don't think they are actually all copper anymore.

We ex'd the penny some time ago and round to the nearest nickel but there is talk of stopping the nickel as well. It makes value added taxes has to round off as well but the government only knows one direction regarding taxes ...

The pennies are only copper plated with the zinc in the middle but still I think they cost more to make them do what they are worth

But seriously nickels and dimes are also worthless .

The only thing that I can think that you can buy with the quarter is gum and things that are on a super sale at Walmart .

 

When I was in the Netherlands a year ago they were still using pennies in the euro system

Actually I prefer the metric system because I have been exposed to it through my chemical training in the United States otherwise I probably would not know.

I'm still a bit partial to Fahrenheit though because there are More gradations in the area in which weather affects human lives .

0°F actually does mean something because it is the temperature at which is saturated salt water solution will freeze .

But frankly if I had to choose I wish that all temperature were in Kelvin because 0° truly means something.

 

The dime is hard to get rid of though if you had to round off the the nearest quarter and you know they would find a way to round UP lol.

When I trade the commodities/stock/derivatives market I find "discrepancy's between markets and do flash trades before one can catch up to the other. If you have enough fractions it adds up quickly in a spot trade. Commodities are the same and aren't necessarily the same on competing markets and there is a buck to be made if you are quick on the draw. I have LIVE price feeds (bid/ask) to every major market worldwide that a program monitors 24/7 for those anomalies and alerts me when they go out of sync and it is more common than you might expect ...

 

Zinc is over a dollar a pound too and is ever increasing as demand outweighs supply and you can melt down the penny and separate the different metals.

Scrap yards use a divisor when they take "unpure" metals to compensate for the percentages of each metal in an item and they lowball that percentage ...
