I thought the French priest was beheaded. Slitting a persons throat and decapitating the person are completely different.

It's obvious that the whole of Christianity is not at war with the whole of Islam, and vice-versa. It is unhelpful to suggest such. It is also unhelpful to disregard the fact that radicalised Muslims are responsible for the vast majority of the terrorist atrocities currently being carried out. Somehow the dark, polluted cancer within Islam must be found, and cured.

Some popes-- and mercifully they are few-- deign to extend their faith in the essential goodness of Man to encompass the entirety of Mankind's Works. Including the political sciences.
