I'm extremely non-monogamous and get tested regularly, and I use protection for all genital activities with people whose sti status I don't know. Yes, that includes oral. Give a guy a couple of condom bjs and he'll be running to the clinic to get tested!

No, you can't tell by looking if a person has herpes or HIV or any other STD. For that matter, people can smell just fine and have a STD, or they can stink like week old tuna and just need to bathe.

Yes, a person with herpes has outbreaks and that is when they are the most contagious, but they can be shedding the virus when they don't have an obvious outbreak too. In fact, probably half the people who have herpes don't know it. How do I know all this? Because I've had herpes for 37 years.

I've always told my potential lovers and told them to use a condom. Smart guys wear them and I only date smart guys. I didn't have intercourse if I was having an outbreak, but I only had 1 or 2 outbreaks a year. None of my lovers ever got infected.

If you are monogamous and you and your partner have been tested, feel free to go bareback. If not, there are plenty of things you can catch and herpes isn't the worst.

Always. I hate condoms but use them because of the simplicity and lack of side effects. The only other thing I've ever used is the pill.

I do have a stock of condoms and despite hating them am prepared to wear them.
BUT I have never been asked to wear one, just the opposite, boastfully because my partners have wanted to know "what it really feels like".
I have known all my partners for some time before the 'act' (no one night stands) and I have thought that I knew of their other sexual activities and 'cleanliness'.
I also have to admit that as 90% of them have been married or in relationships and were taking their own various precautions against pregnancy, as were the other 10%, I have had no hesitations in complying with their wish to go 'bareback'.
Whether this has been/is wise I don't know but I've never caught, or given, anything and (as far as I know) the only child I have caused was my son when I was married.
One partner did finally admit, after first saying that she was 'protected', that she wanted to get pregnant (with her husbands consent) but as after only a month they suddenly had to move because of her husbands job I never found out if she/we were successful - and I don't want to know.
