‘Manson-level racist delusion’: Internet horrified by Steve King’s latest prediction of race war

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is taking heavy criticism for making yet another racist statement.

CNN reported on Tuesday that King this week made an appearance on a talk radio show in which he predicted that blacks and Latinos would get into a race war before either group grew large enough to threaten whites’ status as the majority demographic in the United States.

King’s remark came in response to Univision anchor Jorge Ramos’s prediction that whites would soon be a minority in the United States, as growing black and Latino populations transformed the country into a “majority minority” nation.

“He’s adding up Hispanics and blacks into what he predicts will be in greater number than whites in America,” King told Iowa radio host Jan Mickelson on 1040 WHO. “I will predict that Hispanics and the blacks will be fighting each other before that happens.”

King’s latest outburst drew quick condemnation on Twitter, where his outlook on racial violence drew comparisons to Charles Manson, the serial killer who believed that whites would one day return to their rightful place as rulers of the world after a brutal racial war that he dubbed the “Helter Skelter.”

Steve King’s racist tweet was so popular with white supremacists they’ve dubbed him ‘King Steve’

Republican Congressman Steve King (IA) is being widely condemned for a racist tweet he sent on Sunday. In a tweet supporting right-wing nationalist politician Geert Wilders, King wrote, “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.”

One group, however, is enthusiastically riding to King’s aid: White nationalists, who see King’s tweet as an endorsement of their beliefs — and as evidence that Donald Trump has made open white nationalism acceptable in mainstream American culture.

“Steve King is basically an open white nationalist at this point,” Andrew Anglin wrote on Sunday. Anglin is the founder of The Daily Stormer, a meme-heavy, far-right site that takes its name from an English translation of a Nazi tabloid. The Southern Poverty Law Center recently reported The Daily Stormer has become the most popular English-language, far-right site on the internet.

“OUR civilization and SOMEBODY ELSE’S babies. Not really any nuance there,” Anglin wrote. “Steve King should be Speaker of the House. Period. There [sic] is as plain as the nose on your face. He is /ourguy/.”

King is far from a stranger to the far right — he has long held strong anti-immigrant views, and has previously advertised meetings with other nationalist European politicians. He also used to display a confederate flag on his desk in Congress.

Sunday’s tweet, however, went further into white nationalist territory than he has gone before.

And that, from a sitting congressman, is part of what has internet racists excited — both about the comments themselves, and what they suggest regarding the prominence of white nationalism under Trump.

“King is more /ourguy/ than Trump has ever been, but would he be saying these kinds of things without Trump? We can only hope these kinds of statements serve to embolden more of our people, as they see that people like themselves are in positions of power,” begins an article on Altright.com, Richard Spencer’s new site. Spencer, a prominent white nationalist, is known for coining the euphemistic term “alt right.”

Spencer himself also praised the comments, saying in a YouTube video that he’s “proud” of King and musing, “if this is a signal that conservatives are moving in the right direction under Trump, that they are getting at something real, then I am very happy.”

That line was echoed on Gab, which became the favored messaging platform of white nationalists after Twitter started cracking down on hate speech.

“If Trump’s presidency has emboldened members of Congress to speak up against our destruction, the success or failure of Trump’s policies will be a mere footnote in his legacy,” one use wrote.

David Duke, former leader of the KKK, went on a Twitter tear praising King, urging supporters to move to Iowa, and floating King as a successor to Trump who would “finish the job.”

King also drew praise on Stormfront, a neo-Nazi web forum founded by a former Alabama Klan boss. The SPLC calls Stormfront “the first major hate site on the Internet,” and, until it was overtaken by the Daily Stormer, it was the most prominent.

“Congressman King has always stood up to the anti-white establishment but lately he seems to have manned up to his full power level,” one user wrote, praising King for not walking back on Monday. “When they get our back we need to get theirs. A U.S. Congressman is not just some smuck [sic]. BUGS, Alt-Right, 4Chan, Pepe Task Force…you guys already own most of the internet. Maybe help out the Congressman?”

Other users at Stormfront were thrilled at the new platform for their ideas.

“At least the idea is being talked about in the news,” one user wrote, ending their post “88” — which is shorthand among neo-Nazis for “Heil Hitler.”

King’s defense continued back on The Daily Stormer, where Anglin individually levied epithets at those criticizing King’s racist comments and called him the “Stormer-endorsed candidate” for Speaker of the House.

“It’s time for KING STEVE to take his place below the throne of the GOD EMPEROR,” he wrote. The “god emperor” is a far-right pet name for President Trump. “We need Steve King memes ASAP. Make them, spread them. We already memed a man President, we can meme a man Speaker.”

Major Iowa paper drops the hammer on the GOP: If you disagree with Steve King’s racism — end his career

Over the weekend, Iowa Rep. Steve King praised Dutch politician Geert Wilders and endorsed the right-wing lawmaker’s anti-immigration stance.

“Wilders understands that culture and demographics are our destiny. We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’ babies,” the US representative said on Twitter.

Kings’ remarks made racist David Duke’s day—“GOD BLESS STEVE KING!!! …Sanity reigns supreme in Iowa’s 4th congressional district,” the white supremacist gushed. His statements were denounced by Democrats, as well as a few prominent Republicans.

“America is a nation of immigrants. The sentiment expressed by Steve King doesn’t reflect our shared history or values,” Jeb Bush tweeted.

In a scathing editorial calling out Republicans for their response to King, The Des Moines Register argues that the GOP must do more than tweet their opposition to white supremacy in their party. They must also stop enabling Steve King and actively work to end his political career.

“If Steve King was your average, garden-variety bigot and was standing on a street corner while spouting his nonsense to passersby, he’d be easy to ignore. Everyone could dismiss his rants as undeserving of their attention and get on with their day, they write. “Unfortunately, King has a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He’s a federal lawmaker. He’s on the public payroll. When he speaks, he represents — literally and figuratively — the people of Iowa.”

The Register points out that King’s strategy here is not new: he’s always said outlandish things to get attention. But Republicans shouldn’t look the other way.

“King’s words are predictable, but they carry weight only because he is a congressman. And he’s a congressman because, after Republican Party leaders repeatedly denounce his words in an attempt to claim the moral high ground, they then wallow in the mud by supporting King’s bids for re-election.”

The Register calls on Republican leadership to actively oppose King when he campaigns.

“If King’s world view truly doesn’t match that of the Republican Party, then party leaders at both the state and national level need to stand together in supporting an opposing candidate in the 2018 Republican primary. Given King’s longstanding record as one of the least effective members of Congress, the GOP should have no difficulty finding a more thoughtful and qualified individual to represent the people of Iowa’s 4th District.”

utch Prime Minister Mark Rutte appeared Wednesday to have easily defeated a strong challenge by far-right rival Geert Wilders in a key election seen as a bellwether of populist support in Europe.

According to exit polls, Rutte’s Liberal VVD would scoop up 31 seats, making it the largest party in the new 150-seat parliament, with Wilders and his Freedom Party (PVV) beaten into second place alongside two other parties on 19 seats.

Millions of Dutch had flocked to the polls in a near-record turnout, with the stakes high in an election pitting the pro-European Rutte against his anti-immigration and anti-EU rival.

Following last year’s shock Brexit referendum and Donald Trump’s victory in the US, the Dutch vote was being closely watched as a gauge of the strength of populism on the continent ahead of crucial elections in France and Germany.

“I consider it a victory for Europe, because you see a lot of countries where the populist parties are becoming bigger and bigger,” Infrastructure and Environment Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen told AFP.

“I’m very glad that the signal in the Netherlands now is that the Liberal party has become the biggest,” said the VVD member.

Rutte is set to get the chance to form the next coalition and could possibly turn to the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) and the Democracy party D66, which both matched Wilders with a predicted 19 seats.

But with the three parties’ combined total of 69 seats, he would need another party to reach the 76-seat majority.

– ‘Not rid of me yet ‘ –

Wilders had pledged to close the borders to Muslim immigrants, shut mosques, ban sales of the Koran and leave the EU if he won the polls.

He thanked his supporters in a message on Twitter, with his party looking likely to boost its number of MPs to 19 from 12 in the outgoing parliament.

“We won seats. The first gains are made. And Rutte is not rid of me yet,” he said.

Trumpeting the country’s economic growth and stability, Rutte is bidding for a third term as premier of the country — one of the eurozone’s top economies and a founding EU member.

“This is a crucial election for The Netherlands,” said Rutte, adding that it was a chance for a “big democracy” to halt the “domino effect of the wrong sort of populism.”

Queues began early at polling stations on a warm spring day and turnout reached 81 percent, just below the record of 88 percent set in 1977.

Amid the tussle between Rutte and Wilders, many of the 12.9 million eligible voters had wavered between the record 28 parties running.

One Muslim voter told AFP she was afraid of Wilders’ fiery anti-Islam rhetoric.

“If you have one person who criticises, it’s OK. But every time another person comes and then another one… then it’s really hard to defend yourself,” student Khadiga Kallouh, 22 said.

– ‘Populism doesn’t pay’ –

Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel was one of the first to congratulate Rutte.

“Populism didn’t pay off,” he said in a Tweet, offering his congratulations to the VVD for “staying the strongest party.”

Tough coalition talks will now follow, aiming to put in place the next government — a process which could take months.

Rutte, who had 40 seats in the outgoing parliament, has vowed never to work with Wilders again, turned off by his incendiary message, and after the PVV caused an earlier coalition to collapse.

The “PVV is not such a revolutionary, Trumpian force,” Leiden University expert Geerten Waling told AFP.

“People stick to responsible politicians mostly,” he said, acknowledging though that the PVV’s showing was “not small”.

He also pointed to the “disastrous” showing of the traditional Labour party, Rutte’s sole partner in the outgoing coalition.

Support for the party appears to have evaporated and it was predicted to lost 29 seats to hold on to just nine.

Labour leader Lodewijk Asscher told supporters late Wednesday “the voters have spoken, difficult as it is, but that is democracy.”

One of the biggest winners of the day was the young, charismatic Jesse Klaver, leader of the ecologist leftwing GroenLinks.

In a remarkable turnaround, the party is likely to win 16 seats compared to just four in the outgoing parliament.

Reporter David Cay Johnston’s family bullied by President’s supporters

David Cay Johnston, the reporter who received a filing of Donald Trump’s 2005 tax returns in his mailbox before bringing it to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and his own government watchdog site DCReport, said he and his family have faced harassment and angry phone calls from the president’s supporters since the news broke Tuesday night.

In a series of tweets, he both called attention to the issue and mocked a staple component of Trump’s own Twitter posts. He also referenced what he called the “disturbing sign of how Trump damages civil debate.”

Johnston, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist who has written a book on Trump’s real estate career and family empire, said he received the 1040 filing in the mail unsolicited, from an unidentified source. The document revealed that the former reality TV show star made $152 million in 2005 and paid $36.6 million thanks to the Alternative Minimum Tax, a supplemental tax meant to keep the ultra-wealthy from taking advantage of loopholes—something Trump has suggested repealing. Trump also wrote off a loss of $103.2 million from a tax shelter previously exposed by the New York Times, which had obtained a 1995 filing.

The White House said in a statement minutes before Maddow’s teased the release of the filing that Trump had paid $38 million in taxes on $152 million in income in 2005 after taking into account “a large-scale depreciation.” Trump’s administration also claimed the filing had been “illegally published” and proved Trump “was one of the most successful businessmen in the world, with a responsibility to his company, his family and his employees to pay no more tax than legally required.”

Johnston called the White House statement and claims from Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., false.

Top Trump adviser Sebastian Gorka is a ‘sworn member’ of Nazi-linked group: report

Controversial Trump counter-terrorism aide Sebastian Gorka is facing fresh scrutiny for his ties to far-right political organizations in Hungary.

Forward.com reports that Hungarian group Vitézi Rend, a far-right organization that the United States State Department claims was “under the direction of the Nazi Government of Germany” during World War II, is claiming that Gorka is one of its “sworn members” who took a “life-long oath of loyalty.”

What makes this particularly interesting, notes Forward, is that Gorka’s immigration status in the United States could be jeopardized if he failed to disclose his relationship with the group.

“The State Department’s Foreign Affairs Manual specifies that members of the Vitézi Rend ‘are presumed to be inadmissible’ to the country under the Immigration and Nationality Act,” the website writes.

Gorka’s ties to Vitézi Rend were first revealed earlier this year when a photograph emerged of him wearing one of the group’s medals.

Gorka, who is of Hungarian descent and was born in the United Kingdom, did not respond to Forward’s request for comment, although he has denied in the past that he has any ties to neo-Nazis or anti-Semitic organizations.

‘N****rs don’t belong in my neighborhood’: NY chiropractor arrested for racist threats against child

A Staten Island chiropractor was arrested this week for allegedly harassing law enforcement workers for over a year and throwing lollipops at them as well as threatening an African-American child.

Danielle Serini Guardavaccaro reportedly mailed letters to officers at the 120th Precinct, the New York Daily News revealed. One letter went to African-American NYPD Officer Ebony Glover and another to white crossing guard Jennifer Becker, whose child is black. In the letter to Becker, Guardavaccaro allegedly threatened and insulted the child.

“My next opportunity will be getting rid of you and that ugly ass n****r [sic] child of the crossing guard,” Guardavaccaro wrote to Glover. “Keep thinking he’s safe in school, but when the opportunity hits, it will with a bang. N****rs [sic] don’t belong in my neighborhood.”

The chiropractic office is located across from a public school where Becker serves as the crossing guard. Guardavaccaro has had an ongoing feud for the last year with Becker and subsequently with Glover, who supervises the crossing guards. Clients for the chiropractor have been ticketed and Guardavaccaro blames the two at the school for the tickets.

In June 2016, Becker was forced to get a protective order against Guardavaccaro, but it didn’t stop the harassment, it merely took it to mailed harassment. That’s when a box of Dum Dum lollipops arrived at Becker and Glover’s homes. She also allegedly threw the lollipops at Becker.

According to the New York Daily News, court documents show that Becker alleges Guardavaccaro called her a “f*cking c*nt” and gave her the finger. Guardavaccaro allegedly threw a lollipop that landed right in front of Becker Feb. 2016 and spat at her the following month.

In her latest letter, Guardavaccaro referred to the package she mailed.

“Enjoy the pops dum dum,” she purportedly wrote. “Don’t think for a moment I forgot about the so-called crossing guard that is never doing her job. In due time!”

Guardavaccaro has been charged with aggravated harassment, stalking, and violation of a protective order and is being held on a $3,500 bond after arraignment. Her attorney has vowed to fight the charges according to SILive.

Racist attack drives black family out of Minnesota town

A black family is fleeing a small town in Minnesota after their home was burglarized and defaced with racist graffiti.

CBS Minnesota reports that Latanza Douglas and her family are leaving Delano, Minn., after they came home this past Sunday to find that someone had broken into their home, ransacked their belongings, and spray-painted racist messages on their walls.

“This was supposed to be the last time we were going to move,” Douglas told CBS Minnesota. “If it was a burglary, that’s one thing. It happens everywhere. But when you have people judging you for other reasons that you can’t do anything about, that makes it even harder.”

Delano is an overwhelmingly white town of under 6,000 residents that’s located to the west of Minneapolis. The town’s mayor, Dale Graunke, personally visited the Douglas family to let them know that the town stands behind them.

“It’s not what should happen here, or anywhere else,” he said. “This is our community, we care, and this is not Delano what is happening.”

Nonetheless, Douglas says that her three foster children no longer feel safe in their current home, which gives them no choice but to move.

“These kids have traumas already,” she said. “So, now we’ve exposed them to another one and it’s not a feeling of safety.”

“The biggest problem the Republicans have right now is that they are spineless,” the Newsweek writer replied. “They are trying to calculate which is going be the most damaging, if they distance themselves from — I can’t believe I’m about to say these words — if they’re going to distance themselves from neo-Nazis and white supremacists.”

“Are they going to incur the wrath of Trump and is that going to cause them problems?” he continued. “But the reality is: you lie down in manure you’re not going to get the stink off,” Eichenwald continued. “Donald Trump is wrecking the Republican Party, I agree. This party, the party used to be something. It has transformed into something that is — through its inability to condemn the most odious supporters, the most odious elements — that is coming to horribly define the party. They are demonstrating, I believe, spinelessness, but a lot of people will look at this and think they are approving of it.”

Neo-Nazi fears stabbing of black man may lead to ‘unfair’ discrimination against white supremacists

White supremacist Andrew Anglin, founder of the neo-Nazi website the Daily Stormer, condemned the racially-motivated murder of a black man in New York City, arguing it “does not represent White Supremacy” and warning the attack could lead to unfair discrimination against white supremacists.

Monday, James Jackson—a white Army veteran from Baltimore who authorities say visited New York City with the intent to stalk and kill black men—fatally stabbed Timothy Caughman (pictured below), a bottle collector who lived in transitional housing. The New York Daily News reports Jackson is a member of a well-known hate group in Maryland who espouse racist views for more than a decade.

In a letter Thursday, Anglin said “white supremacists are under no obligation to apologize for this attack.”

“White Supremacy is a religion of peace, and the overwhelming majority of White Supremacists are peaceful members of society who do not agree with stabbing random black people with swords,” he wrote. “The attack has nothing at all to do with the religion of White Supremacy.”

Anglin also warned fellow white supremacists will “be subject to unfair scrutiny and prejudice” as a result of this attack, arguing people who dress or look like neo-Nazis “will be unfairly discriminated against.”

“It’s time for society to rally around White Supremacists, and show that we don’t blame them for the single act of someone who wrongly used their beliefs for evil,” he said.
