How is it that you differentiate between the Republicans and the Democrats? They are both bought and paid for by the same corporations, they both claim to serve the people and still fuck us at every step, and they both do just what is best for them only.

 

I am afraid that you're right .

I personally am an independent because I think that the two parties make deals with one another .

I just happened to see something on the site about which state was the most republican and it was incorrect so I thought I'd throw this out there.

 

And for the record that articles has nothing to do with parties, it is about conservative or liberal.
There are conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans.

I do not want the United States to break up into two countries, but I think it might. The second Confederate States of America will include the South, except for Virginia, and most of the Midwest and Mountain states. What remains of the United States will be the states on the West Coast, along with Nevada and Hawaii, the states from Virginia to Maine, and a few states in between.

What remains of the United States will have the best universities and the best economies. There will be a brain drain as intelligent young people leave the Confederacy for the United States. They will only go back for family and high school reunions. Those reunions will remind them of why they left.

I think that the United States is far more resilient than people give it credit for .

The original confederacy included a very clear delineated line between North and South . Although it can be said that the line out west became kind of blurry.

If the US were to break up today it would break up into a strange geographically untenable mishmash .

One Country would subsume the three West Coast states and moving east nearly all of the other Western states other than Colorado and New Mexico would go red. Illinois Minnesota and Wisconsin would go blue and maybe Michigan and northern Ohio .

The South would stay red excepting Virginia and maybe Florida which is as schizophrenic as Ohio and the new England in the middle Atlantic states would go blue .

I don't see how you could possibly maintain two countries that are this geographically fragmented.

Also the blue states would never allow a second secession . Anything that the red states could possibly muster up militarily would likely be defeated very very quickly .

One also has to remember that the low population states like Wyoming actually receive more federal aid than they pay in taxes this is mostly in the form of conventional services like the post office and maintenance on their interstate system and so forth . So I don't really think they're going to be in much for hurry to leave.

There will continue to be a whole bunch of angry arguments between liberals and conservatives but I think it's going to generate more heat than light. Congress and the presidency will keep swinging back from one party to the other but I think that the country will stay cohesive .

There is also no real organizing principle behind secession and while slavery was probably a false organizing principle it was effective in drawing a clear ethical line between the two identities that eventually led to the Civil War.

The culture wars are way too abstract to provide such an organizing principle .

 

All this talk about the U.S. breaking into other countries is just plain bull shit.
You couldn't force any state out of the United States.
Texas is about the only one that could survive.

 

Texas cannot go back to being it's own country again under law. There was no provision made for succession when they joined the US despite what most people believe besides this state could not be self supportive.

 

America will never disintegrate at least not in my lifetime .

And any state that would try to secede would tangle with what is by far the most powerful military force in the world.

California is by some accounts the fifth largest economy In the World . It could make it on its own but it will never be allowed to happen. Texas could probably make it on it's own but of course that's never gonna happen either . America is never going to allow any state to leave .

The nation is already in a state of decline and has been for far to long.
We falsely elect persons to presence us that have no such intent, they only wish to do wast is best for their monied masters.

 

I agree that America is in decline but my view is not as pessimistic as yours because while America is in decline it is declining from a very high place . That decline is also not irreversible.

 

How do you expect we reverse the Laurent course? Elect more people that only serve themselves?

 

Continue to elect outsiders over and over and over again .

And everyone is going to serve themselves . Altruism is not a normal human behavior

 

Without altruism we would still be living in the trees.

 

I am pretty jaded but I cannot bring myself to say that this administration has already failed.

And I cannot say that America is refuted.

We have faced a lot worse and come out on top .

 

Altruism is a fiction .

No person ever does anything without it serving their interest.

The French believed in liberty fraternity and equality but what they got was Napoleon .

The Soviets said from each according their ability to each according to their need .

How did that work out ?

The American founders believed that faction will always exist and that the secret is to play the factions against each other .

They had no illusions about the nature of human beings .

Most American liberals think of the United States as a great big kindergarten class.

But even that is mistaken because kindergartners can be very vicious to each other as well.
