But Eric Trump’s trip is different. It’s not just about the cost of the trip, or the partisan hypocrisy at play given his father’s vociferous condemnation of his predecessor using taxpayer money for vacations. It’s not even that the Trumps will likely take international trips on their own fairly frequently compared to previous first children. The problem is that the $97,830 charge was for all intents and purposes a business expense, one of what will likely be many instances of the federal government paying to effectively subsidize the Trump Organization. Not only that, it’s yet another reminder of the president’s refusal to divest from his businesses, a situation that continues to create a multitude of conflicts of interest.

      So. Eric travels for business.
      This surprises you?
He is obligated by circumstance to drag along Secret Service protection.
That is, unless you would accept the risk of the Presidents son being kidnapped or assassinated.
How could Trump ease your discomfort?
Should Trump himself pay for this protection?
      Would that please you?

Was trump president at that time?.

It's hard for me to believe that ''EARLY JANUARY'' was the correct time frame to constitute that Trump was president at that time.

So again, another non issue portrayed as a scandal.

I know what you mean. All the PR hack will do is keep talking in circles, post nonsense, and then get his socks to pretend they agree with him.

But as for me I still get a kick out of exposing his lies and bullshit and wiping his dirty nose with the facts.

"Why does it not surprise me that the right whined about Obama being thought of as The Messiah, but now they think the same of trump, even just to joke about it!"

The one sure thing about Trump supporters is that they are not blind to what he is. Trump was voted into office to keep Hillary out. Trump is anything but a "messiah" to a Trump voter. They only defend him because the attacks leveled at him from the left are so uncredible.

Uncredible? That's not even a word...

But once again you focus only on the "left" when many on the right are also questioning his competence.

Keep those blinders on! It's a good look for you.

      Uncredible.
      Not credible.
It's a word because Shooter made it one.
      Deal with it.

And your remark about even many on the right are questioning ...........?
How the hell does that demonstrate that the right thinks of Trump as a Messiah?

      See? Your bullshit is ..............Bullshit.

Huh... I didn't claim that because there are some on the right that are denouncing Trump that it supports they think he's the messiah... Not sure how you got that from what I wrote... Maybe it's just a deflection tactic.

For all those that bitched, bitched, and bitched about President Obama travels and cost to taxpayers, this will put things into perspective.

The Secret Service Won’t Get $60 Million More to Protect the Trumps

Nearly half of the additional money that was sought in the fiscal 2018 budget request – or $26.8 million – was to be used to pay to protect Trump’s family and private home in New York’s Trump Tower. The remaining $33 million was for security related to travel incurred by “the president, vice president and other visiting heads of state.”

First lady Melania Trump and her young son, Barron, live in the family’s three-floor Manhattan penthouse, while Trump largely divides his time between the White House during the week and his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on weekends. Trump flew to Mar-a-Lago last Friday for his fifth post-inauguration weekend trip, just a day after OMB issued a federal budget proposal for the coming year seeking $54 billion in cuts in many government programs and agencies to offset the cost of a major military buildup.

The government spent an estimated $10 million on Trump’s first three trips to Mar-a-Lago in late January and February, according to a recent investigation by The Washington Post. At that rate, travel and security for Trump and his family could run up hundreds of millions in costs by the end of his term.

Trump’s adult sons, Eric and Donald Jr., travel extensively overseas in running the family business and they receive round-the-clock Secret Service protection. Eric Trump’s trip to Uruguay in January to check on the progress of a Trump hotel reportedly cost taxpayers nearly $98,000 for agents’ hotel rooms.

At the same time, Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner, serve as senior advisers to the president, and they and their children are also afforded Secret Service protection.

Ironically, Trump more than once criticized the cost of President Obama’s travel, saying it was “unbelievable” that Obama’s trips were “costing taxpayers millions of dollars.”

He vowed during the campaign to save the public money by working tirelessly in Washington and skipping extraneous or overly expensive trips. Since then, First Family travel and leisure has been taxing Secret Service resources. And that, over time, could degrade the quality of protection for the commander in chief.

    More perspective.

Dana Milbank: Trump lifestyle doesn't come cheap for taxpayers

The average family of four in the United States pays about $4,000 a year in federal income taxes. That means the entire tax bill for 15,000 families for the year will go toward these additional protection measures for Trump. And the Secret Service is just a slice of the overall expense. Figure in costs incurred by authorities in Florida and New York, the Pentagon and others, and costs related to the Trump sons’ international business trips, and we’re well over $100 million a year.

That’s the annual federal income-tax bill for some 25,000 American families. Each trip Trump takes to his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, where he has gone most weekends since his inauguration, is estimated to cost taxpayers in excess of $3 million. And an unknown chunk of the taxpayers’ money subsidises Trump businesses in the form of rent, restaurant bills and publicity. In April, Trump will host Chinese leader Xi Jinping at what Trump dubs the “Southern White House,” which is a Trump property where the initiation fee has doubled to $200,000 since Trump won the presidency.

The taxpayer subsidisation of Trump’s rich-and-famous lifestyle is but one of the bait-and-switch manoeuvres by Trump, who said during the campaign that “I would rarely leave the White House because there’s so much work to be done.” The man ran as a populist and is governing as a plutocrat.

A budget-conscious president would spend weekends at Camp David rather than hopping on Air Force One, at about $200,000 an hour, to Palm Beach, Florida. The Post’s Philip Bump estimated spending on Trump’s travel and protection, if it continues at current rates, at $526 million for his presidency. This dwarfs what was spent by Trump’s predecessors, even though Trump in 2012 tweeted that Obama’s “vacation is costing taxpayers millions of dollars — unbelievable!”

I just watched an analysis of the costs of Trump and his family's travel and at the current rate they estimate the costs to taxpayers will add up to $100 million per year.

But also within that estimate it was pointed out that while taxpayers will be stuck with the enormous costs Trump and his family profit directly because so many of the trips and expenses are paid to Trump properties.
