Personally I see the story site allowing editing, fixing the dates and voting and other long-standing problems, then introducing a nonsensical rule in a very stupid and alienating way. It's frustrating. There was already a no-pedo rule but Nophest couldn't be bothered to wire up the Report button for it. They stuck the big yellow banner on the reading page, but left the submission page unchanged and the Young theme. Didn't bother to tell the mods about it. Took the banner off and stuck in an 18+ rule in a forum thread - perhaps in revenge for the abuse he so richly deserved!

The cynicism and disrespect and stupidity is as much an issue as the rule itself. I don't think anybody's saying he doesn't have 'the right'.

 

I don't know where you get your facts but the age of sexual consent in Arizona is 18.

Never understood this ban, I happen to enjoy stories of this ilk, it is IMAGINARY fiction and last time I checked there is no dictatorship that forces one to read them, no law that says u must "subject" yourselves to read the stuff. Why write fiction if u have to limit your imagination. I know of one amazing site that has survived since at least 1995 that had no moral crusaders railing against them and still allows the most extreme content ( keeping the name secret) in case the moralphobes attack it) I am sure many of you know of it already.

 

Actually 16 is the age of consent in Canada and has been since February 2014, prior to that it was 14. There is a 3 year swing for people to have sex with anyone underage i.e. 18 can have sex with consent of a 15 yr old. No one with auhority over somebody can have sex with them, e.g. teachers/students; cops or jailers/prisoners; etc.
18+ is age for provocative pics.

Oh I meant Arkansas sorry, though really it doesn't change things does it? Most states are 16, and even in Arizona it's a defence in law if the participants are say 15 and 17. There are close-in-age exceptions all over the place, down to 12 as I said, and lower general ages like Germany and Italy at 14. So calling 18 a legal threshold for fiction is nonsense, even if real-life law applied which it doesn't.

And of course rape, incest, torture, snuff, necrophilia etc are, er, illegal everywhere...

So - back to my main point -to have some writers (mods) sitting in judgement on other writers over this age nonsense is a huge can of worms that is not worth it. The site is no more ethical, but is divided. Add in how it's been handled and how it's coincided with various functional improvements and it's a great shame.

 

I have pointed out on another thread how this restrictions limit a author's creativity but I'll repeat it here.

This mostly focuses on science fiction but fantasy genres could also apply.

First case clones. We all know that clones are artificial humans that are created in a lab.

What most people don't know is with most clones in stories are grown at an accelerated rate.

This means the clone would be fully grown but be only days or weeks old.

Second worlds with longer or shorter years.

The planet a character is from has a longer year than earth so by their calendar they would be considered younger than someone from earth.

This is one that applies to fantasy stories as well namely elves after all they are immortal and a elf that is a hundred years old would be thought as a teenager compared to an elf that is a thousand years old.

Finally there is aliens .

They could mature at a faster or slower rate than a human.

This also goes into a planet's year length say they are from a planet with a longer year. On the earth calendar they would be considered younger then on their own.

Also say the alien was part human. Do to its alien side it matures faster then a regular human. So it could be the equivalent of a 20 year old at say 16.

Now when I brought this up the last time I was told that a story could fall victim to the mods delete key so I should use caution or the story could be pulled.

 

I will venture a few counter points, HC.

The SciFi aspect of longer or shorter system years can be countered by using "standard" years instead as long as they are in contact with Earth. This can easily be done by using a default number of seconds for a standard day and setting that standard to be the 1/365.2425 of a GALACTIC (instead of TERRAN) standard year. The length of a second can easily be set to the vibration of a known atomic crystal at so many vibrations per picosecond.
This can cause an issue when on a planet where double times need to be kept but for story purposes, this effect can be minimized. When in space, the galactic standard would be the only time used.

For aliens another standard needs to be set: maturation point. At what age do dolphins, elephants, chimpanzees, or gorillas become sexually mature? This point will likely NOT be the same as for humans and I use those specific creatures due to their intelligence and size. The gist of this argument is that a race which matures faster should have a lower age restriction while one which matures slower should have a higher restriction.

In the fantasy realm, when are those elves SEXUALLY mature? THAT is the point which needs definition to counter the age restriction instead of strictly social maturity. Their natural looks at decades might mimic those of a younger human but are those looks natural for a much longer period of time and do they actually indicate sexual maturity?
An example is hair. Do the elven males grow facial hair or not? If not, how likely is it that they grow a lot of hair elsewhere and does that not transfer to the women ALSO not growing hair except on the head? A race which does not grow hair naturally except on the head will naturally be missing hair or have extremely sparse hair growth in the genital area WITHOUT that being an indicator of their age. OTOH a race which tends to grow a LOT of hair (think dwarven females with naturally full beards) will tend to have hair growth all over their body as well; live with it.
Social maturity also needs to be defined by what it entails. Ex. AFAIK Jews of the first century did not consider a man to be part of society AS A MAN OF INFLUENCE until his 30th year although he could easily have a family and possibly even grandchildren before that point. This would be comparable to limiting the franchise to business/land owners and their spouses (and I know that I am not stating that limitation the same exact way as in The Constitution Of The United States Of America - sue me).

All of this boils down to one fact: if the age or level of sexual maturation is not necessary for the story then do not mention it.

 

That's why I don't list ages in my stories it is also why I scraped the pleasure clone idea. However it doesn't change the fact someone reading a story may get there panties in a twist over such misunderstandings if they were not paying attention or were just looking for something wrong with the story.

 

Depends on the context of the story, I pass on stories of Adults (21 or older) having sex with minors 15 or younger) women reach consensual age at 16 if they become pregnant) Some of my early sexual experiences where with girl friends being young and me being a year or two older, I see no issue with this ans it is "first Love" senieros ,

 

Very old posts , things have been changing on the age of consent front , with increasing pressure to redefine both physical and mental parameters for informed consent.
Many countries with an age of criminal responsibility of 10 years of age but ages of sexual consent considerably higher at 18.
Find the arguments on retaining a criminal age of ten used against them by campaigners for lower ages of sexual consent.

Both Medical and psychological studies over the last few years if not advocating , suggest a reduction to 14 years of age

 

Since MY personal first experiments in sex were when I was young I personally find it interesting to read about others with similar experiences.
I do NOT go for adults enticing young people or THAT ilk.
However people of the same age discovering sex to me is NOT pedophile crap.
I'm sure that there are tons of other subjects on this website that are deemed OK but probably do arouse the 'pedo' people anyway.
There are tons of videos and pictures depicting 'young' without bending the so called rules of this website, and so they are OK to display that.
Frankly, I have discovered that the 'Quora' website allows a lot of questions and answers about sex, and young sex.
And as hypocritical as Quora sometimes is, they allow THAT!
I'd be willing to bet that almost 70 percent of us had some kind of sexual 'encounter' before they turned 18 years old.

I find the opposite. The men I have conversed with(while doing my psychology internship)about these topics, usually say chatting and fantasizing about it until they orgasm keeps them from actually doing it. It helps curb the “hunger” for it if they can find someone to go deep into it with. If they try to ignore it or hide it, they feel worse and want to get satisfied however they can. I’d much rather have them chat about whatever makes them cum, which they usually can’t achieve with “regular” sexual experiences, than go and live it in the real world.
