    So here's the deal.
A family flying from Denver to Minneapolis on United Airlines was called aside by the gate agent who told the girls they could not wear leggings on the flight. They would be required to change or put something on over the leggings. Their dad, wearing shorts, was apparently fine to board as he was.
The media got wind and a shit storm started.
HOW DARE THE GREEDY FAT CAT AIRLINE PROHIBIT LEGGINGS!!
    SEXIST!!
    BIGOTTED!!
    BLAH BLAH BLAH

Couple of points not immediately publicized in the media uproar.

    1) Shorts of appropriate length were just fine. The 3 girls could have been wearing shorts, and there would have been no issue.
    2) Of greater import; the family was flying on "passes". What you ask are passes, and why does that matter?
    Shooter will explain.
Employees of airlines can fly standby. If, after boarding the paying passengers, there are still available seats, airline employees can fly for free. They're called "non revs" for non revenue passenger. Employees also have privileges on most other airlines that allow them to buy standby seats at steeply discounted fares. For example, a $600 ticket might cost $75, but again, the employee flies standby. And, airlines allow their employees a certain number of "buddy passes" that they can give to their friends. The friends fly standby at deeply discounted fares.

Now, the thing is, where all airlines have a "dress code" for all passengers, they also have a dress code for non revenue travelers that is much more restrictive. For example, on one airline Shooter is familiar with, a paying passenger can fly wearing shorts but a non rev passenger has to wear pants, and very old or holy denim doesn't pass muster. A non rev passenger also has zero rights if they are bumped off of a flight; if their bag is delayed or damaged, to bad. The airline has no liability for any of that. No overnight accommodations if the flight is delayed, for any reason.

Basically, as a non rev you are expected to sit down, shut up, and do what you are told. Employees who abuse the benefit can loose their travel privileges, and even their job. Shooter knows of one employee who got drunk and abusive on a flight and was fired; they had worked at that airline for 9 years without any issues, until that fateful flight. The airline has no tolerance for issues with non rev passengers. They view a non rev passenger as a representative of the company, and insist they behave accordingly, even though they are also told not to publicize the fact that they are flying non rev.

And when an employee gives a friend a buddy pass, the same rules apply; if the buddy creates issues, the employee can loose their privileges and even their job.

So, back to the shit storm. The family was traveling on passes. They were non rev passengers. They had zero rights, and were expected to sit down, shut up and do what they were told. And apparently, they did.

Another passenger, a Shannon Watts, observed all this and started tweeting. Shannon, not the family traveling, started the shit show. An interfering, busy body TWAT sticks her nose in someone else's business without knowing the facts, and starts a shit storm for personal gain. You see, Shannon is an activist and is always looking to get something started somewhere.

Here's the problem. United doesn't care where the bad publicity started, or why. Chances are good that the employee who was traveling, or the employee who gave the family those buddy passes, is going to get called into the bosses office today and find out if they still have a job. It's a solid bet they won't have travel privileges for awhile.

Not that Shannon would give a shit. She got her publicity for the day and that's all she cares about. And Shooter would guess that if she is called out on this she'll blame the airline for their "draconian, sexist, homophobic, racist, policies.

That's dumb. Chrissy Teagen can fly with no pants on but they have to change their pants?

    1. shootersa
If Chrissy Teagen pays for her ticket she has to follow whatever the dress code is for paying passengers.
If Chrissy Teagen is flying on a pass, she has to follow whatever the dress code is for non rev passengers.

So basically, the gate agent was an old, bitchy cunt busybody that overstepped her bounds and now United has to back up her technically-legit-yet-unreasonable decision, in order to avoid getting sued.

The gate agent was enforcing the policy. She was doing her job.
The family was following it. They were doing what they were expected to do.
The busybody TWAT stuck her nose in where it didn't belong without having all the facts, for her own personal gain.

Why is this all so hard to understand?

Oh, I understand it completely. The gate agent, Cunty McBitchy, made a bad call that, while legit according to the rules, was still a bad decision.

What did United gain from all this ?

United sets the policy. (Shooter hates United; he is not defending United here.)
The gate agent has to enforce the policy; they work for the airline.
How is it a bad decision to enforce company policy?
United gained nothing but some undeserved bad press.
Shannon Watts, the TWAT that stuck her nose where it didn't belong got publicity for her cause.
And this is why Shooter is pissed; the fucking cunt played it for her own benefit and in the process could cost a United employee their travel benefits or even their job.
That's on the bitch Shannon Watts, not United, not the gate agent, not the employee.

For the next 24 hour news cycle, United is going to be the butt of jokes from TV anchors & late night comedians and it'll probably cost the airline some present and future customers.

So again, United gained nothing positive from this.

What the gate agent should have done, was tell the girls that their is a dress code policy attached to the employee pass and that they can go through this time, but in the future, please observe the dress code policy, tell them to enjoy their trip, wave them through and take care of the next customer.

First, all non rev passengers must acknowledge the dress code when they reserve their flight. Not totally sure about United, but most airlines include the policy applicable to non rev travelers with the reservation confirmation. And, because this was spring break, United had already sent out alerts about travel policy to non rev passengers.
Second, the gate agent approached the family before boarding time to quietly suggest they change into something in line with policy.
Shannon "your business is my business if it generates publicity for me" Watts apparently overheard and stuck her nose in their business.
The family should have taken into account the dress policy before they got to the airport. They can't say they didn't know. The gate agent did their job. Professionally.

Though 95% of the time I'm on a business jet or a private charter, there have been a few times when I flew on a public airline. Though my experience therefor is limited, and in that typically they are to "tropical destinations" so they expect "resort wear," Here is what I've discovered. Mexican, C. & S. American airlines don't care. European Airlines don't care (though the British can be a little uptight). Canadian airlines don't care. International U.S. flights, they don't care. Domestic U.S. flights, they often care.

I've been scolded for kicking my shoes off. Not due to hygiene, or that they stank, just simply some stewardess (lol, they hate that), got a hard-on for me (typically my boobs, and I could tell from how they kept staring) and figured that was how they could get their dig. Their logic? That in a crash (as in hitting the ground at 300m.p.h.) they could become "dangerous projectiles" even though they could hit you at any speed and do nothing typically being silk slippers. Not my head or arm that gets knocked off, but my shoes. I've been scolded twice for my dress length, in both cases just above my knee 1-2" (and no I don't have 3" long thighs) as "inappropriate," and one of those times it was suggested to me that I should wear pants like "normal women," in both cases I was asked to cover my legs with a blanket. Finally, I have been criticized for wearing "inappropriate tops" with no elaboration. Not that they showed cleavage, were too form fitting, or too short. Simply in some cases my nipple showed through (I'm guessing), or more than likely as one actually had the nerve to say "because they were too big," ergo, making them obscene.

Never underestimate the vindictiveness of women. If they can overstep their authority to at least get a dig at another woman that threatens their bell-curve, they'll do it.

Naw, a smile to all the men and pilot does so much more harm. Remember, they wouldn't try to drag you down if they already didn't think that you were above.

    Welcome to the Twitterphere ...

Used to be a time when it was an adventure to fly on a commercial jet and people actually dressed up for the occasion. Now you have cunts kicking off their shoes and every other thing you can imagine including ponytails hanging over the headrest of their seat covering the screen so you can't watch the film you paid 20 dollars for lol.

Sensationalize much dude, the media did not "explode", it simply brought to light an injustice due to antiquated policy.

I am Jack's indifferent shrug. If you haven't noticed, I don't base my self worth on others likes of dislikes. That said, I do however enjoy pushing those who would inflict their insecurities upon others to the point of having a stroke. Though that's a good thing, it gives them something to rant and vent about in the years to come. Now rub my feet.

Still, the gate agent should have just given the girls a warning and waved them through.

Sure. Are you one of those who shows up at the gate at 9 minutes before departure and bitches because they closed the door on time and won't open it again just for you?
