My girlfriend is a teacher (5th Grade) near the Flint area. She tells me that between the shootings last week and the approaching "end of the world", there have been all sorts of scares going around this week--talk of kids with a hit list, rumors about dangerous kids with weapons, copy cats, etc. They actually decided to cancel school today and tomorrow to just let everyone cool off. I can only imagine the kind of lasting scars that events like the Newtown shootings will have on today's children. I worry that it's planted the seeds for more mayhem down the road.

 

Notice how the OP tryies to grasp at straws to try and prove an non-existent point while ignoring the real point which is the prevelance of guns in our society.

In the mid 70's while I was a cop I responded to a shots fired call at a local teen nightclub.

These kids were kicked out because they tried to sneak alcohol into the club.

They went home, got a hunting rifle, returned to the club, and while the one with the rifle hid behind a fence the other one went in and lured the bouncers outside.

The kid fired 4 shots. One hit a bouncer in the neck. It paralyzed him for life. Another one hit a patron in the abdomen. She lost the ability to have kids. One hit the wall. The 4th one hit a bouncer in the leg who was running to help the first bouncer. He recovered but it took a long time.

It took about 10 minutes to put together what happened, and who was responsible. The kids were in custody within 30 minutes. Their excuse? The club refused to refund the $3 door fee.

Here's the thing. There have always been whack jobs who can "justify" senseless violent acts that fuck up innocent lives. In the 70's there wasn't an Internet, no video games, (OK, I think we had pong then) and lots of drugs for kids to take. What's changed is the publicity. Even then, this tragedy never made the broadcast news, and there was only a short story in the print news the day after it happened.

Just excuses. That's all it is. There have always been whack jobs, there will always be whack jobs, and the only thing that changes is our awareness them.

 

I just heard on the news we have closed a bunch of schools round here early for Christmas for the same reason you spoke...

I grew up in Philly. I saw violence & crime my whole life. A good bit of it was directed at me, being the only white kid for miles & miles. Only one in my school.
The City of Philadelphia used to, don't know about now, pay ALOT of money every year to keep off of the "bad city" lists. Old City, where the Continental Congress, Ben Franklin's House, the Liberty Bell, etc are is a huge tourist draw. Can't have tourists frightened away before they get there. ( and have a chance to get mugged )

Living out here in now in Arizona is like living on a whole different planet!

 

Back in the late 1950's two gangs of kids gathered in a vacant lot above our house got together for a gang fight that involved chains, clubs, knives and guns. But not anybody got killed. Two weeks later the two gangs came together again at a local convenience store and two of them died.

Its bullshit to try and claim this is anything new.

 

Back in the 70's I was a kid. Kids would play out side from sun up till dark. People rarely locked their doors back then and our town had little to no crime at all.

But now times have changed. They have around here anyway.....

 

Yep, same here. Just yesterday the high schools here in the town I live in shut down early because of a rumor about students talking about a BB gun...

It's just crazy.... These kids today are just not like they were 30 and 40 years ago...

 

If you read my earlier post; it wasn't meant as an either young people are more violent or something has to be done about guns.....
I was explaining my position on one, while I also believe there are too many guns out there...


Although I really wish all guns would be removed from everyone not in law enforcement. I know that isn't realistic. What I truly believe is realistic and just is......
No one needs high capacity ammunition clips and certainly no body should need a semi- automatic gun/ rifle.

It's "unheard of" because you don't have our problems or our population numbers.

I must admit I misjudged you. I saw "Arizona" and assumed it's where you were from.

I don't understand why anybody would want to move there though. Florida or California? Of course, definitely. Arizona though? That makes me scratch my head.

Nobody has "gang fights" anymore. Gangs are mostly run like a business these days, while also acting like a military group at the same time. Besides, you don't know what real gangs are to begin with.

 

You know, I just wrote a very long, very detailed, very accurate post that explained it completely and thoroughly... but as I was about to hit submit, I realized "Why bother, when I know I'll have to deal with a bunch of deluded suburbanites who think they know better than me about it?"

I mean really, why bother? Why waste a single word of it?

I PMed it to myself in case I decided to post it, and maybe if people really genuinely want to know and understand the problem then I will post it, but I doubt that's going to happen.

One thing I will say though is that a big reason why kids under 25 are so violent these days is because people in general don't seriously ask "Why?" or "Why not?" anymore.

That and people are entitled and have had consequences removed or lessened.

That is a very dangerous combination.

I would have liked to have read it. Your words who think they know better than me is narcissism. The root of all problems. If we realy knew the truth their would be peace on earth. John Lock went back to the time of Adam and Eve when their was peace on earth. This is the direction our founders had in mind. But as history shows we are headed to hell because no one will do the research to be free from pain and suffering.

 

Albert Einstein did not solve problems over night. He asked questions over and over and over until he understood it. People copy and paste now days.

 

There is more to this story than we will ever know, for better or worse. No one kills someone over paintball. My guess is that there have been several events leading up to this. This kid could have raped the shooters gf, tormented him for years, or even committed murder himself; and for the protection for the victims, the shooter will gladly take the fall. I could understand that.
