I have a question, do you think that porn influences our society or do you think it reflects our society? How much influence do you think the porn industry has over our sexuality and our societry?

 

The way I see it, is the human sex drive was first
then porn came from that.

You pose an interesting question. It's hard to say, sex has been around longer than humans. It is embedded into our DNA. We are also creative creatures with a mind for invention. A statement made that is very true. The making of home porn increased by 1000 percent as soon as the polaroid camera was introduced to the market. With that statement even if somewhat inaccurate it would suggest that porn is an extention of our creative, inventive minds coupled with our primal desire for sex. Humans first created art, depicting what they knew of the world they saw. Anicent carvings and draws even depict sexual intercourse long before cameras and moving picures. But that still does not deny the fact that the power of the media of todays time cannot or does not affect human sexuality at this point in time.

 

Can't it be both? Can't something reflect modern culture and historic drives while still remaining an influencing force at the same time?

I really think people that claim porn corrupts society is blowing porn's influence on us WAY out of proportion... in no way would a rational person think anything that happens in porn is in any way related to the way things happen in real life.

Case in point is the softcore porn movie Bikini Cave Girl.

I think porn influences porn-watching culture but not culture at large. By that I mean, as porn gets more extreme, porn-watching culture demands things be taken further and further in order to derive a certain taboo/shock that makes porn interesting. With bukkake, gang bangs, animal sex, etc out there... I'm curious to know just how far things will go in the future of porn.

 

I agree with you Doc. The humans need for sex is what started it (reproduce society), and then pleasure made it desireable, and porn turned that want into an industry.

I've actually had this discussion with someone here awhile back.
I always thought the chicken came first because a chicken is an actual chicken but the egg is only a potential chicken.
Then some dumb Brit came along (Pulsar66 perhaps) and blew my theory outta the water and made me rethink my whole existence.

 

It's people and their sexuality that came first, but times and society change.

People want sex and they want to see sex, but it is society that used to try to stamp that out - especially back in the day when religions were much more potent politically. In America, we had the Hayes Code of the 1930s that brought a halt to much of cinema's sexiness (goodbye Jean Harlow's nipples poking through satin), but you can still find rare grainy black & white porn from that and previous eras. Someone once said that within minutes of the first public sale of the camera, somebody was taking pictures of people fucking.

I think a change came in America after Deep Throat and the sexual prosecutions of the 1970's. Many Americans would never admit to have even seen any porn then. but after the VCR and the proliferation of home-ready porn in the 1980's, the trend sort of reversed. Over the next few decades, porn started leading social sexuality.

When I was just 'coming up' as a 20-something, you were lucky if a girl would ever 'kiss you down there'. Now, women compete to show what a nasty slut they can be. Anal? More rare than a blowjob in my early days, but now, it's a rare girl who doesn't do it (and enjoy it).

These days, porn doesn't lead society, but it certainly informs society. Thank God. Sorry, but I'm so glad that both sexes shave now.

Haha - I know! Normally, I would look at these resurrections differently - usually they're from a newbie looking to up their post count, but two factors make me change my mind about bumping old threads:

1) I like Abej, and she has plenty of posts, so there's no opportunistic motive there.
2) I find it strangely interesting to see what people were saying and thinking 10, 12, 14 years ago.
