First of all, the old Law actually never taught or required monogamy; in fact, it was something that did not fully come into practice until the age of Catholicism much later on. So as far as Jacob is concerned, there was no violation of even the Mosaic law, even though it came many years after his existence.

Second, no one cast aside the Old Testament, in fact, just the opposite. Even Christ used the Old Testament to prove His authority and testimony. The Old Testament is great for proving the history of God's people, the evidence of the existence of mankind, and especially, the truth that Jesus is the true Messiah.

Furthermore, historically, Christianity is the one faith that has proven more adequately its truth than any other religion known to man. But aside from that, nearly every religion in the world has a story similar to the flood encounter. Numerous ones have a similar tale of that to Adam and Eve as well, only with different names.

It has always amazed me how someone can regard all history with such confidence, until it comes to the bible; the absolute oldest source we have. Before math books, philosophy books, and even basic construction books, we had documented biblical documents.

Many non believers actually believe in god. The problem is that since they are either confused or don't believe in a particular theology, they are marked as atheists, or even the cursed seed of Satan. What we have to understand is that god, essentially is a word, a word that each of up perceive differently. Some people believe god is energy/ Christ/ whatever. But a newborn doesn't believe in anything but in mother. We poison the child's mind through religious education, ergo the child grows up thinking of god as the religion prescribes. Other...... don't. The history of the planet involves mayhem, murder, torture and abuse as each religion tries to prove they are the "1" by killing the others, torturing the others, outbreeding the others, converting the others and making war on the others. The winner, the most successful must be the right "1" - of course others are invented again and again.

 

A third possibility is that the various religions could be efforts by finite human beings to grasp an infinite Divine reality behind the universe.
