Some research has linked environment to drug addiction. A bad environment drastically increases the chances of addiction. It offers a quick, easy way to shut out the pain and crap. And that's how it gets you. We are designed from the ground up to take the easy way. Less resources used, that kind of thing. On the other hand, if you are in a good environment, addiction chances are supposedly far lower.

 

Ok, I was gonna hold on to this, but fuck it. I am 3 years clean from meth. 3/3/14 was a day that if I lived 3 more life times, I could never forget. Ill start of with a reubuttal to someone said something about the effects of the drug physically. Its manufactured with chemicals used to power batteries, degrease engines, for christ sakes run your car! Of course its destroying your insides! That shit by itself will kill you, mixed together your doomed. Well, thank the Lord above Im pushing 40 and after a 15 year run with that trash im healthy enough to run and play with my 6 year old son, healthy enough to get out of bed in the morning and go to bed at night, most nights anyway. And just as important I have every tooth in my mouth I started with (I was religious with flossing brushing and dentist visits). I dont look aged or malnourished, and goddamnit Im still sexy The images you see on the news and poster boards condemning meth because of what it does to your body are horror stories designed for kids to see the worst posible outcome. Does it happen? Absolutely. If your hygene is shitty before you start using well...meth does not make that better. The physical damage for most is no where near where the real issue is. There may not be a physical addiction, and people with strong minds, and a powerful will it doesnt effect the same...at first. See addiction is progressive. The first few times nah your not hooked for life. Theres a deep rooted want or desire to achieve that first high (Which if you dont give it up right then, you will spend the next years chasing). Continue to feed that desire, and addiction is imenent. And worse yet is you dont even realize your becoming an addict until its too late. While your trying to chase the intensity of your first hit (which btw is impossible), your brain is literally "re-wiring" itself and goes in to survival mode. And then you begin to change. Your thoughts, your ideas, what you value and deem important, all become the "old" you, and the shell of you is born. See your brain doesnt retain information the way it does before you use. So learning, growing emotionally, things like that are at best extremely difficult and in most cases impossible.
You dont care about much. Your compasion, your emotions, the most basic of human thought patterns and needs become trivial, and you can take it or leave it. Bathing, brushing, grooming, saying I love you to the people in your life, all that among so many others arent even a thought. Emotionally your plain and simple unavailable. To loved ones it seems as if you just dont care. And for a while you dont. Then the people you love that love you they cant take the mistreatment and abuse and slowly start leaving you. Parents, girl/boyfriend, wives...even kids.
I was influenced and started using at very young age. And ironically it was a girl that introduced me to it by using sex with her and her friend. Im not ill at her it was my ultimate desicion to or not to do it. I wish to this day I had told that bitch to some other sucker. But I also have struggled with mental defects like adhd, and ptsd. When I was using they never bothered me. Sure I had a dr and meds. But meth was easier to get frankly and shit it was more fun! I could focus, and I could think, followed immidiately with an intense 4 hour fuck session.
The high is intense. Sex on meth is the most amazing and euphoric feeling that you can ever experience, because you have no inhibitions or reservations. Youll literally do anything with anyone, especially when theres dope involved. Get high and have sex for hours, days even. And its great every time. But is it worth it? I can look back now on the 15 years I wasted being a meth addict and compare it to the abundant contentment my life is now, and answer that question with 2 words.... FUCK NO!

Be kind enough to share any Harm Reduction tips you may have. You mentioned being religious about dental upkeep were you religious about anything else? Diet? Supplementation? As I understand meth depletes the body of key nutrients vitamins minerals.

What was the recovery process like for you? Rehab cold turkey ditching your social networks...What worked for you?

I had to think about how to respond here a minute. And Ill be completely 1hunnid with you bro. As much as I would like to think and tell you that I made choices (consciously) with damage control at heart my entire career as an active addict, it wouldnt be true. I am in no way shape or form ok with being the voice of reason for someone who maybe comes across this thread and reading it makes them feel encouraged to keep using that poison.
I believe that I have simply been blessed with the resiliance of 10 men and I bounce back like big sean. I will tell you this though, and it may seem contradictory to what I just said but so what. . I can tell you that after the first few years using I would fall in and out of the "self destruct" mind set , but when that wasnt my state of mind there are 2 things that I made certain to do without fail. I learned that while its true that the drug is made up of chemicals that do a serious number on your respitory system, viens, liver, lungs and kiddneys, the brunt of the damage your body endures doesnt come from the substance itself. The most part of the damage to your body is caused by long term sleep depravation and and malnourishment from going on for hours with out eating. The 2 things that an addict will go without doing most. I would make it a point to eat at the least one square meal, and for god sakes at all cost, sleep. Whether it was for a few minutes or 40 minutes or 4 hours, sleep is the best thing an addict can do for thier body. The human body can withstand a tremendous amount of neglect and abuse before shutting down. IF it is given the opportunity to recharge with sleep, and re energize with nutrients. I would try and stay away from consumables high in sodium and sugar and would keep a big jug of water near usually. I to this day dring water by the jug often as possible. Bananna's and pinapples became a favorite snack. The drug is potassium depleting so after being on it for a bit your muscles start to dry out which causes joint pain, spazms and cramping, and later in life artheritis is imenent.
Now as far as getting clean...such a long story. Ultimately it boiled down to my desire to live over shadowing imenent death. I mentioned a date in my post. March 3 2014. The day that changed my life forever and forever more. I dont wanna go into to much detail in this thread...Ill just say this briefly. Toward the end of my active addiction, I was spent. I had literally traded every thing I once deemed to be the most important things in my life for pockets lined with wads of cash, fast bitches and sack chasers, and twack star celebrity. All the "exciting" things that surround that lifestyle had become a part of me like nothing I had ever been involved in. But my oldest and closest friends? gone. My immidiate family? No where near me. Mother, cousins uncles...all gone. I learned how to live without family cuz the only ones I trully NEEDED around me, The love of my life, and my kids would be with me forever...right?
no matter how much someone loves you, no matter what promises you might make to each other or how far back your relationship goes...If there is anything in this world that will succesfully and completely mar that love and destroy a family i promise you its that drugs effects on your mind, thought process and patterns and behaviors. She loved me like know one else in my life ever has and after 16 years together, an argument turned in to an altercation an altercation turned to a huge blow out that I regret to this day. I passed out...and when I woke up, she was gone. They were my last life line. I cant put into words the feelings I had to wake up and realize that I had drove away the very last person that loved me. I was ready to die. So...I went to my closet where I kept the house "protection", loaded it with 1 hollow point round that was in its case...went to the fridge and grabbed the half full bottle of Grey Goose and proceeded to get drunk enough to....Gah...Thinking about that day still brings chills. And a tear.
God works in mysterious ways. Cliche I know, But although I was within minutes of painting my kitchen walls red...The creator was certainly not finished with me. The vodka I was drinking , idk exactly but something in it was bad and I had a reaction and eventually seizure. The noise alert the nieghbors below my apt who came and found me siezuring in a pool of blood. I woke up in the hospital hancuffed to the bed because I had a gun when the paramedics and police showed. I used to say when I told that story "I almost died". But thats not true. In fact that vodka and that siezure are the only reasons Im NOT dead today. I had every intention to swallow a bullet that day. The creator had other plans... No rehab, No NA meetings, and the addict will go round and round the same vicious cycle ...until they wake up...or die. That was how I quit bruh. Living became more imporant to me than ever before in my years.

This is a touchy subject for me... As it kind of pertains to my ex and the 8 yr relationship we just got out of in October... After few months of being single and wilding out she got introduced to some methhead... She had told me in November that all she needed was her daughter no men, but yet she had been with a handful of em... Now back to the new bf and her, she has really been fucking up as she doesn't see our daughter near enough as she should, she has fell for this drug and this pos, her friend would tell me that the 2 would stay up there all day sometimes. She has not been the same mother and has stuck by the dudes side even when her family tried to help... For me after splitting up with her was a signal that my time fighting for her would soon come to an end. She had decided to hide her infidelity unlike me so why should I?
